If I recall they never got the IP rights for Elvis and had to generically refer to him as the public nickname the King.

I always assumed if they referred to him as Elvis, they could also get in trouble for the stuff near the end - where he eats the specific sandwich and gets a little... thicker. By just referring him to "The King" - they never say Elvis by name and avoid that - and everyone knows who they're actually referencing (although these days, it seems less and less people are familiar with Elvis because his music isn't "relevant" to them).

Loved Larry back then but never got around to play this game. Thanks for the vid!

Leisure Suit Larry 1 (the old EGA) version was one of the first games I'd played by Sierra when it released (that I owned). I think it was the King's Quest 1 EGA that my friend's father introduced me to and got me hooked forever into Sierra! For Les Manley, both games are on GoG individually or as a pack together, for pretty cheap - so if you're ever interested it's there! :)

@@LetsPlaySierraGames I doubt I'll be able to tolerate the old-style gameplay now, I'm too late I guess. I hope for a remake :)

@@ZedZod_666 I doubt a remake will ever come - unless it's fan made (and I am not sure if Les acquired a strong enough fan base to make a fan game! It'd be cool if it did!) - but the original owners of the IP, Accolade - they went under - got bought out by Infogames. Then, from there it got crazy - according to Wikipedia (because last I remembered it was with Infogames) - Later, Infogrames acquired the Atari brand from Hasbro Interactive in 2001, and through the decade slowly re-branded their properties under Atari SA. But, Atari/Infogrames declared bankruptcy in 2013, and game publisher Tommo purchased the "Accolade" trademark and several related assets. (doesn't say which ones). In June 2017, Hong Kong-based holding company Billionsoft announced its acquisition of the "Accolade" trademark, and together with developer Black Forest Games and publisher Tommo, announced it would develop new entries for several Accolade franchises, starting with the Bubsy series. In April 2023, it was announced that Atari had re-acquired over 100 different titles from Billionsoft, including select Accolade titles as well as the company's trademark and brand. So who knows where Les stands in that - my guess is still with Billionsoft (since Atari only got "over 100" - I doubt they went for Les - probably something more market-y).

@@ZedZod_666 Phew - a remake doesn't seem likely. Accolade went under, got purchased by Infogames. Infogames then got bought by some other company. And then the assets went all over the place. I am not even sure who owns the rights to Les Manley. And the fact that the game wasn't a super huge hit... that unless a fan remakes the game (which would be cool), a modern version of good ol' Les is probably not in the future. :)

@@ZedZod_666 I can respect that! Although a remake isn't likely since Accolade no longer exists as a company - unless someone makes a fan remake! Although, as with when all game companies, when they go under - others purchase them. So it looks like Infogames purchased Accolade. Then from there - it was chaos.
