The openings to these videos is so cinematic , loving it! Really enjoying the continuing voyage of the USS Sailfish.

Do you know the history of the REAL USS Sailfish. Her original name was Squalus. She accidentally sunk, in May 1939. Her surviving crew was rescued, with the first use of a diving bll for rescuing sub personnel. She had been attended by her sister ship the USS Sculpin. During the war, the Sculpin eventually was sunk. Some of her crew was 'rescued' by the Japanese. And later, when those POWs were being shipped back to Japan, their transport was attcaked and sunk...by the Sailfish.

You might have to disgorge three torpedoes - and at 5° increment. To hit these fast vessels - you however only need one hit - a Destroyer is a very vulnerable ship to torpedoes.

I really like your video presentations. Interesting comparing the sim to RL. Re: How did the AI spot you? . I thought it was cool how your first visual contact was his gun flash from the fog on the horizon. The Japanese had excellent optics better than those of the allies. it is documented that they sighted US formations (eg Salvo)and tracked them for significant periods without themselves being detected-Early radar had some limitations. Re: easily avoid the escorts. The IJN was slow to develop ASW tactics. Their ASW tactics improved but not soon enough.

That and he was on the surface with his periscope sticking up another dozen feet. Did that a lot in a later SH3 playthrough. :D

thank you that was so that looked harder then any other submarine game. very funny, and enjoy as always the random and sometime unexplainable AI tactics.

Most Tokyo Express bombardment ships liked to steam into position for night attacks, and away before firstlight far enough from air cover to re-arm from fleet replenishment ships who would steam back to Rabual to load up. They would rotate the meeting places as per the slowest heavy to reapet.

Destroyers on a supply run, i would wait at that offload port and nail all off them while stationary or at least very slow :)

What was that friendly ship that was marked on your map as having been sunk at the start of the video? Also, did you get in on the action at the battle of Savo Island? If not, there's a few more small naval battles in Guadalcanal (Second-Fourth Battles of Savo Island, Naval Battle of Guadalcanal) where you could help sink Japanese cruisers or battleships (assuming the game simulates them, I know it does big battles like Midway but I don't know about smaller battles like these).

That friendly Icon was a friendly aircraft that was shot down by a Japanese destroyer earlier. I missed the First battle of Savo Island but i may be able to make it to the second/third. It is still a month away but we will see.

The AI in TMO spots you with ridiculous ease sometimes, sometimes you only know about it by taking hits, which is unrealistic. I don't know if you use RSRDC but try the patch 'TMO_Visuals_for_RSRDC', I found it helped with that.
@Wolfpack3456 жыл бұрын
Yeah that was kind of ridiculous at the star.. I will look into this fix! Thanks for the help!

4 years late and just binge watching this series. I have been curious about the distance / speed / time graph on map view was for? is it just flavor and not useful at all?

It would be really cool if you forced the destroyers to hang around trying to detect you until daylight hits and then you could radio them in for the planes to come and sink. I know not possible but would be cool :P

i think this is one of ur best attempts its a very hard shot to make..however if you fire a 3rd torp set it a few knots slower in your TDC then send it and fire a 4th torp a few knots slower or faster use 3rd and 4th tubes to guess

Wish this game accounted all the troop ships oil tankers, and transports we sunk, for the land battles. Like say we're lucky enough to sink multiple troop transports means less reinforcements, less supplies like fuel and food, and Saki. The Marines gank them easier in the game. Vs reality.

In your first encounter with the Tokyo Express, you tracked 'em with radar at *32* knots. My guess is that was also their actual speed during your attack. At those speeds, a small error in marking/timing could have resulted in the 33 knot estimate. Given how your torps ran just ahead of the target, I reckon had you set the target speed to 32 knots instead, you'd have nailed him.
