A couple of notes: Colonies 'grow' gradually to 5 over three Economic phases - first to 1, then 3, then to 5...not to 5 after only one Economic phase (which is why Colony ships are so important early on!). Also, only Barren planets in Deep Space (chits with a white border) will have Aliens. Your home system's Barren planet has no Aliens.

One of my 5 10er out there. This game needs definitely the first expansion for gameplay depth especially when playing solo and the second one for the aesthetics. Also the third expansion is on p500. IF you get into this game try to get them. For me this is one of the greatest pure 4x games out there.

@@realjplay yeah but not all are, let’s say, so good especially solo. So groundtroops are definitely a game changer and make the game different but way longer. Experience is also cool but you make the game way easier but also longer and complicated.

I would just add that I agree with your statement-lots of super cool things are added through the expansions. Having said that, this game is amazing as-is. I sprinkle in some of the stuff form the expansions but no-one should feel the need to get the expansions, IMO. Cheers!

@@realjplay Nice! I'm not concerned that you don't have combat in this scenario - easier to learn the basics this way. Just out of curiosity, what printing do you have? I think GMT has the 5th print run in P500 now.

Great game! You can use a single SY counter with a number marker (eg 3) under it. Also, in your home system, it's safe to pair up a Colony ship with a Scout to speed inhabitable planet discovery.

I spread my comments: tactically it’s a good idea to move colonyship/miner with your scouts in the beginning. It’s only 1 blackhole in your startingsystem WHEN you go in higher difficulty’s or when playing multiplayer.

Turn your counters when moved about 45 or 90 degrees than you see what has moved.

Alien ships only appear on deep space barren planets and barren planets in the base game are not so important. In the first expansion you can get technology cards when you colonize them.

Hi Markus, Glad to have finally got around to watching this playthrough, very cool! One thing I am not sure about is how relatively easy it is to get turned into spaghetti in a black hole, with a 33.333% chance. AFAIK in reality you'd have to put yourself close to a black hole and even then you would probably end up whizzing round in the accretion disc. Which wouldn't end well to be fair! lol Anyway I'm not a cosmologist and may well have misunderstood. But I was wondering, if you stack a scout with a colony ship do you have to move them together, or could you send a scout ship into a new space on it's own and then follow with the colony ship if it was safe to do so. That way you only potentially lose a scout. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series! Great fun!

Didn't they somehow manage to survive in "Interstellar" but can't quite remember if they actually dealt with a Black Hole in the end (never really got the ending actually)?! :-D Yes, you can move a colony ship with a scout (or another battle-ready ship), that's the only way how you can move a colony ship into a sector with an unrevealed token.

They escape the black hole through a wormhole, a dangerous move, because there is a risk of being eaten by a spacemole. lol Sorry I may not have framed my question well. I was wondering if you could send in the scout first to reveal the token and in the same move phase, send in the colony ship if it was safe?
