This is the original Space Quest 3 Let's Play from 2010; all the original videos were combined into a single video, and upscaled to 1440p. Of the three I've done so far, this game probably benefits the most from the upscaling. This is due to the SCI0 engine's heavy use of dithering, which KZbin didn't handle all that well at 480p (this is why for King's Quest 1 and 4, I used ScummVM's undithering feature, which I don't think existed yet when I did this game). At the higher resolution, the dithered areas look much better, though the only way to see them as they are meant to look is still to use a CRT monitor. Now, who's up for a game of Astro Chicken?

while SQ5 is my favorite, I do like the fully incompetent misadventures of a lanky janitor who with sheer moxie, avoids death and defeats world/galactic threats. it always comes off as pure luck with little skill (not that he has any). A perfect hero for a Sierra point and click adventure game.

According to space quest historian, the only way to make the game unwinnable is by waiting in the mallard for 18 hours, which triggers the final fight early
@Terezar4 ай бұрын
Yeah, apparently, there's a hidden timer that was left in that triggers the final dogfight scene. It takes 18 hours before it runs out, but it is technically possible.
@micahbush53973 ай бұрын
There's a second way, actually: If you destroy Arnoid using the pods, then spend all your money without buying the Orat-on-a-Stick and lose the anemometer pole while vaulting over the gap on Ortega, then the game is unwinnable because you can't retrieve the invisibility belt from under the pods.
@micahbush53973 ай бұрын
Oh, and I guess going up the conveyor in the trash freighter after having left the ladder at the Aluminum Mallard also makes the game unwinnable. It almost doesn't count, though, since the dead end is logical and only requires you to go back about five minutes to correct it.
@Terezar3 ай бұрын
@micahbush5397 that is a way, certainly, but you have to REALLY try to set that up. Most things referenced as making the game unwinnable are things you can do by accident, even the 18 hour timer. You accidentally leave your game on overnight, you might come back to a game over
@micahbush53973 ай бұрын
@@Terezar Even leaving your game on overnight seems unlikely to trigger that issue, since you have to spend 18 hours in the _Aluminum Mallard_ specifically, and there really isn't much to do there besides going between different locations.

I kinda figured the 7 buckazoids in the seat was a clue as to which meal to buy at monolith burger
@Mythraen8 күн бұрын
I'm not saying you're wrong, but that isn't good game design. There's no in-universe explanation for that money to hint to what meal to get.
@Terezar8 күн бұрын
@Mythraen This was the 80s. There was no concept of game design yet. There were no courses, no books, no training, the concept of video game design as its own thing didn't exist
@Terezar8 күн бұрын
@Mythraen that being said, the only meal that costs exactly 7 buckazoids is the fun meal. For a Sierra game that's basically a neon sign
@Mythraen8 күн бұрын
@@Terezar My only point is that there is no in-universe explanation for the hint. You stating how good of a hint it is doesn't change my point. Also, this isn't exclusive to games. This is a plot... convenience, a problem with narratives. I believe narratives predate the 80s by _at least_ a couple years. Internal logic isn't exactly some ground-breaking idea invented in the 90s.

The astro chicken game is a clone of a classic game called Lunar Lander (or slight variations thereof on different platforms). It's from the "steal all your quarters while pretending it's a skill issue" era of arcade cabinets in particular.

I don't believe he will do Quest for Glory, as it's not a pure adventure game. The RPG components are a turn-off for him, I believe. And, yeah, they're not called "Hero Quest." The very earliest version of the first game was called Hero's Quest, but they had to change the name because of HeroQuest.

A little clarification for you. 'Polycheeze' is a riff on American Processed Cheese. the Kraft singles -- you know? Popular on cheap cheeseburgers. There was a lot of rumors at the time that the cheese wasn't even real cheese, but a sort of emulsified vegetable oil or something -- or even plastic. Hence Polycheeze, or Polymer Cheese. Get it?
@stgibbs864 ай бұрын
Ya I have to watch out for these CHEESE PRODUCT which isnt real cheese.
