This playthrough was very unique in the KZbin space. Never before have I seen someone’s response to a sea dragon be “oh it’s so pretty. I could do without the fire though” instead of “oh crap flee with extra flee!!!” This was endlessly amusing, glad to be on board the ride, even if it was only on the vods.

This was genuinely the best playthrough of Subnautica that I have seen. (and I have seen a lot because this is one of my favorite games) You had such a perfect mix of exploration, base building and story progression which made every minute enjoyable to watch. You also seemed to perfectly understand everything that was going on in the story without any confusion, which was really nice to see. Your reactions to certain moments and areas were fantastic and it was really wonderful to see you enjoying the little details. There were plenty of really funny moments as well like the teeth cupboard, the crabsnake attacking you at the perfect time while listening to the pda entry about it and all the yelling at twitch chat when we were wrong about things. Thanks for playing this great game and sharing it with all of us. I will miss this series. I will miss Pride Rock, Irene, Sunny and Rosie, but I am also very excited to see you (hopefully) play Below Zero. (and also Baldurs Gate 3 #LetGemSwear)

So proud of you Gem for finishing the game. what had me cracking up is that you saw one of the 4 portals and used it as just a portal. Even though the 4 portals would have given you every item for the hatching enzymes. It was epic that you had most of them in your garden though.

Glad you found the Sea Treaders. Those are almost never witnessed by LPers because many of them get too focused on reaching the end game quickly (they're not even speedruns), instead of exploring some of the deeper, stranger reaches of the home crater. There's not many things slower pace players like us haven't seen, so be proud to know some of the lesser known sights, curiosities, and even a couple things I missed. You've done an excellent job with this LP. 😄 On the topic of the next one available to play, Below Zero, I will say that while you _may_ be a tad disappointed in the selection of ornamental things to grow in the outdoor underwater grow beds (recently playing to refresh myself on where some things are), the exploration, and extra vibrant biomes are still so worth seeing. The graphical improvements are easy enough to spot if you play them closely enough together to see how the dev's skills in level design, and polish has increased. The game is really beautiful, in other words. The story is pretty good, too. No spoilers, YT comments. #LetGemSuffer!

2:13:06 LOL i thought that too, but ive realized upon further research and a couple more replays of the game, the aurora just sends your PDA the blueprints for the neptune rocket, your PDA has to improvise in terms of ingredients based on what data youve collected, and it decided alien technology would be most suitable.

Correct. And the radio broadcast telling you about the BP even said "it'll need one hell of a power source" implying you might have to work to find something strong enough for your PDA to complete the design.

As buggy as subnautica can be, it is genuinely one of my favorites. Such a deep (no pun intended haha) story of a deadly bacterial outbreak, ancient aliens trying to cure it by trapping an intelligent creature and experimenting with it, ships and crews being shot down and stranded on an alien world, and you the player in the midst of it all trying to pick up the pieces. I highly recommend that you play Below Zero, it's an amazing pseudo-sequel that expands on the events after Subnautica, as well as gives some insight into the perspective of the aliens tasked with curing the disease.

I began a new playthrough of subnautica because i was hyped by the S2 trailer. And I wanted more of the game after that, so i went on KZbin and found your series, and thereby discovered you. (Now subbed.) Weirdly enough, by coincidence you built Pride Rock only about ten meters from where i built my own base. It's a good spot! My scanner room is right where you had Irene's moonpool, and the rest of the base is built out below and to the west. I have been a long time subnautica enthusiast, an even longer time hermitcraft viewer, but a first time Gem viewer and I must say that I look forward to catching some streams in the future. This game is easily in my top three of all time and the way Gem played it has made me fall in love with it all over again. Hi, Gem. Things like this I prefer to do privately but can't. Needs to be followed (I don't do social media anymore and haven't for years, if there is...oh lol). It's so sad, but understandable. I just to show you my appreciation for your content. For context first though, I’m a welder / fitter / foreman to be at a shipyard, and I have to deal with 110-140F (not a typo. similar to why you shouldn't leave kids and pets in the car, when you're running an errand) with high humidity regularly inside of a tank during the summer. It’s physically and mentally exhausting. For the past two years, your content had help relieved some of that stress, that I was able to keep my mind off of work, relax, and have a good night sleep. I find your voice, relaxing...energy, uplifting...smile and laughter, infectious. I'm sure you're even more amazing irl based on your interactions with your friends. Even if it was just work for you, it was truly, very important to me. So thank you. Anyways, it’s 5:30 here and need head off to work. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. @50:50 They toned down the aggressiveness of the creatures a lot during early access. The Reaper would have come for you really fast when you got close back then. The warpers were nasty at first. You could get ping pong warped and killed because they hit faster or had more range after warping you to them. Now you can actually avoid the hit if you keep moving. Pretty sure the cooldown on the warp throw was less as well.

This has been such a fun experience! I understand if you want to do other things for a bit first but I'd definitely recommend you play Below Zero at some point, I haven't finished but so far it's been so fun and there are some things I think you'd really love. Also, Subnautica has a Creative Mode! I would love to see like chill Creative mode base building streams in cool places because you're so good with the building aspect. Also, Subnautica 2 is meant to release next year and is going to be multiplayer, so it would definitely be cool if you played that with someone else!

I never watch streams, but I've watched every minute of this one, all 27.5 hours, and I've loved it. While at times a bit stressful because of play differences, as well as being annoyed at the Twitch chat whenever they steered you wrong, all in all I don't regret a single minute of watching this. I did absolutely love it, and loved watching your play style with it. I do hope you play it again in the future, just for yourself, and go hardcore Gem on the building! Also, maybe drag Pearl along for some organization, she would have been a good angel on your shoulder for this one. If you play Below Zero, and eventually Subnautica 2, I'll look forward to watching those streams in the future! Thanks for the journey, Gem, I almost want to start up a new game just to hope to get that time capsule! All that said, glad you played this in 2024... The 'no bugs' thing might have been very different if you played this 5-6 years ago, back when the Prawn Suit frequently fell through the ground forever and ever. They've fixed it since then, but a bug like that might have caused you to drop the game altogether, it was always annoying to deal with.

Congrats on your excellent playthrough! I have played this game countless times and I still get choked up at the ending. The devs had the character hesitate briefly before pushing the launch button and I think that's because they really were doing everything they could to make the player fall in love with 4546B and partially not want to leave. The hesitation likely resonated with a lot of players. So glad you enjoyed it, and definitely looking forward to Below Zero and Subnautica 2 (when it comes out) if you decide to play them.

@24:10 Because of how power works in the game. Each generator has a buffer. The game draws from the first built and so on. So the water machine was drawing more than the bio reactor and whatever else you had generating power. This seem to be a bit buggy at times so after loading a save the game might draw energy in a different order. Judging by the buffer staying at 150 it would indicate that two solar panels were full as they each have 75 buffer. The bio reactor can store 500. Also note that most flora is not the best for energy content to put in the bio reactor. Some of the fish have 2-3 times more energy capacity. The best is supposed to be the Occulus with Peeper and Reginald also being pretty good. Lantern fruit is only 210 and takes 4 slots, so pretty bad. Gel sacks are 245 for one slot and the most energy dense flora. For comparison a Peeper contains 420 and Occulus 630.

I'm only at 53:35 as of this comment, so not sure if you do more leviathan searching in the video, but you asked about whether there were other ghost leviathans, so I thought I'd include the full list for you. :) Some of these biomes (like the Dunes) you only went to the very, very edge and never fully explored. There's probably half a dozen or more large wrecks you never found in those biomes, as well as other little alien sanctuaries. If you play again, now that you've done a full playthough, definitely consider a map! The best online one I can recommend is from mapgenie, but there are also map mods that usually do a very good job. Just be careful because some maps are out of date due to early access changes. Leviathan Counter: -3 (6) Adult Ghost Leviathans: 2 in the Grand Reef (near where you found the sea treaders) and 1 in the North Blood Kelp Zone (near where you parked Sunny); 3 additional adults will spawn in the void if you venture there and don't leave right away, but they are only there if you are there (as a deterrence to players trying to exit the playable map; the game eventually teleports you back to spawn) -3 Juvenile Ghost Leviathans: All 3 in the Lost River (there are 4 entrances but 2 of them merge together before reaching the central "crossroads" near the Tree Cove; so of the 3 branches leading from that center, a juvenile guards each of them) -25 Reaper Leviathans: 8 in the Dunes (west/northwest), 7 in the Mountains (north/northeast), 1 in the bulb zone (northeast), 9 in the crash zone around the front, back and opposite side of the Aurora -3 Sea Dragons: 2 in the inactive lava zone and 1 in the lava lakes -6 Sea Emperors: Mama and all her babies; the babies WILL eventually leave the portal and go out into deeper water. If you play long enough, you can actually go find them as much bigger juveniles in the North Blood Kelp Zone, the Crag Field (southeast), the Dunes, the Grand Reef and the Mountains, as they spread the enzyme around the planet; as a fun trivia note and not spoilery because it was eventually removed, a very early version of Below Zero did include at least one Sea Emperor You can technically, sometimes, hear ghost leviathans in the Jellyshroom Caves (as well as the Lost River music playing there) because of it's physical proximity to them. However, all leviathans love to clip into the terrain, so it is very possible for them to randomly go missing. Edit: Oh, good comment from Vivi at 57:15! You never encountered a Mesmer! I'm pretty sure you were lucky and swam past them a few times, but that is an experience that is very sad to miss, and the PDA entry is so funny!

(Edit.: it seems this is not allowed, you put it, but it doesn't appear for the other person, but you can put ion batteries in tools and send the tools with them widout a problem.) 2:37:39 Magnetite would also be nice, since it allows you to make various useful things that would only be accessible later. Or the scanner hud. Some of the seeds (not the ones for the hatching enzymes).

It will take a bit until it's uploaded, the devs have to approve it and they're not as focused on them as they were when the full game launched. Also, it's only available on the platform played on, I'm assuming Gem's on PC, so console players can't find it. Only a max of 40 spawn in the game as well, I imagine it will be at least a month, probably longer, before anyone finds Gem's capsule.

Pretty awsome playthrough all things considered. Outside of a few minor nitpicks that can easily be overlooked (giving a proper goodbye to the cuddlefish forgives all). I liked this playthrough a lot. Can't wait for Below Zero and how you'll customize the sea truck.
