The trick is waiting for the bats to fly where you want them - for example following you from behind, and then not killing them. There can't be more than 3 bats on screen at once if i'm not mistaken. Of course, if this was on the Super Nintendo, the screen would be wider, giving you more foresight -.-

Wow... No offense, but ignoring chests left and right you found often enough by accident and then complaining there aren't enough chests is just not right. The bats I can understand, but the ghosts and boss? Both have a clear pattern and are easy to avoid if you're not impatient. Bosses usually won't die very quickly to magic attacks, especially if their hitbox is small like in this case. I can understand you though, being angry at the game just happens to make one do more mistakes. Maybe you should've taken a break :P
