For the curious: The Exposed Nest You were forever finding some new play. So when I saw you down on hands and knees In the meadow, busy with the new-cut hay, Trying, I thought, to set it up on end, I went to show you how to make it stay, If that was your idea, against the breeze, And, if you asked me, even help pretend To make it root again and grow afresh. But 'twas no make-believe with you to-day, Nor was the grass itself your real concern, Though I found your hand full of wilted fern, Steel-bright June-grass, and blackening heads of clover. 'Twas a nest full of young birds on the ground The cutter-bar had just gone champing over (Miraculously without tasting flesh) And left defenseless to the heat and light. You wanted to restore them to their right Of something interposed between their sight And too much world at once-could means be found. The way the nest-full every time we stirred Stood up to us as to a mother-bird Whose coming home has been too long deferred, Made me ask would the mother-bird return And care for them in such a change of scene And might our meddling make her more afraid. That was a thing we could not wait to learn. We saw the risk we took in doing good, But dared not spare to do the best we could Though harm should come of it; so built the screen You had begun, and gave them back their shade. All this to prove we cared. Why is there then No more to tell? We turned to other things. I haven't any memory-have you?- Of ever coming to the place again To see if the birds lived the first night through, And so at last to learn to use their wings.

Interesting footnote on Frost's "The Road Not Taken": This poem is popularly believed to mean "Don't do what everyone else is doing; take your own path"--and that's what I believed too. But then I read a fantastic analysis that actually proves the poem has a completely different meaning. Frost isn't praising individuality. He's wondering how his life might have turned out if he had made different choices. You can see this in the first three lines of the poem: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood

The current statistics on the Box Toppers are: An expected value = 76$ A mean = 76$ And a range = 230$ The range of this set is abnormally high because the most valuable card, Liliana, is 175$ over the mean, and the next 4 most valuable cards, Cavern, Snapcaster, Tarmogoyf, and Karn, are between 120$ and 75$ over the mean. Overall the mean and expected value are heavily skewed by those 5 cards, considering only 11 out of the 40 cards are priced over the mean. The range and mean are also lightly skewed by the low end cards. The 2 least valuable cards, Stirring Wildwoods and Lavaclaw Reaches (“but those cards definitely see enough play to warrant a masterpiece” - WOTC probably) are 50$ below the mean. And of the remaining 27 cards below the mean, 14 are at least 30$ below it. Only 11 cards were within 10$ of the mean. The Professor’s 7 boxes had a mean value deficit of 56$ without the Box Topper, and a mean Box Topper value of 119$. Although we must consider that the probability of pulling 1 of the 5 high value Box Toppers 3 times is 0.2%, so the mean value of his Box Toppers is noticeably inflated. Overall we see that WOTC’s original expected value of a Box Topper of 96$ (the increase in the MSRP of a booster box between the last Masters set, Masters 25, and Ultimate Masters) was 20$ above the current expected value, and as the mean price of an Ultimate Masters booster box is 280$, WOTC overvalued the set by 56$. The Box Toppers have an insanely inflated range caused by including cards that see almost no play in any format, cards which had an extremely low value already, and most importantly cards which no player had ever said “you know which card I’d want to see an extended art masterpiece of” about. So, while the expected value of a Box Topper is likely similar to its cost (something which is impossible to properly determine because to the fact that the Box Toppers are not being bought and sold separately on the secondary market due to the flashlight trick, and because the price of any of the other Masters sets which would be needed as a reference has been irrevocably altered by the value of the cards contained in the set and the scarcity caused by being out of print), people may wish to avoid the set due to the heavily punishing lower end contents. Because we can all agree that NO ONE wants to gaze into the abyss that is opening a Box Topper and find that a Stirring Wildwood gazes back into them. All the prices I used came from TCG player.

It certainly is factory damaged and not misprinted, youre right. But from what I've seen those kinds of things still sell for more than regular cards in misprint, miscut and oddity groups, if only a few cents over normal. Professor, I have a friend who owns an LGS in Houma, LA and he would definitely take that damaged Mistveil plains foils and offer you something for it. He has a collection of damaged and mis-cut foils.

In my opinion... The reason MM17 had more combined value was because they had actual dual-lands that had value and werent filler junk. And they were $100.00 cheaper to begin with. If this is the future of Magic products then I am not going to waste time , energy, and money on their products. Ive already seen a decrease in my play group and the turn-out at local Gs's by about 40%. Ive had a EDH group consisting of 30ppl for years. Now only 10-15 actually play. Wizards is becoming the Grimey, Greedy, evil step-mother of Hasboro. And people arent as dumb as they think. Thats my *$.02$* .

The fact that only two boxes were actually above the $300 without the topper was pretty disheartening.
@MWorl915 жыл бұрын
Rykzor Why? You’re paying extra for the extra card. If you take that card out the boxes would sell for 200-240 which most of them were in the range of anyway
@xiong20035 жыл бұрын
He paid $300 a box. Nobody was actually paying that when he was playing this game. They're only just hitting that mark now. I feel like he did that so he could complain about not getting the box value without the topper, rather than delivering factual information.

They reprinted the enemy land cycle because of the demand for Celestial Colonade and for some reason wouldn't just print it without the rest of it's cycle.

I've been watching the Professor's Booster Box Game and I agree that it is smarter to buy Singles. However, I still don't buy Singles. I'm always testing my luck and opening packs is one of the ways I do that. I know will never turn profit because I don't sell my cards, they are either traded for cards of lesser value that I think are interesting or gifted away depending on my mood. I am more than happy to help others become better and I even give the local card shop cards to help them turn profit. In the end it's still just cardboard to me, cardboard that I can use for amusement.

Awesome video as always. You should add a counter in that says the number of boosters opened so far. Knowing how far you are from the end is good to know, and adds some more suspense as the last packs come up :)

"So remember: even though I had a ton of fun opening these boxes AND scored some jackpots, I still advise you not to share in that fun by opening your own booster boxes. I refuse to acknowledge the fact that the lottery component is a large reason why people crack packs"
@danfiorini1015 жыл бұрын
I see your point, but do you agree with this: if WoTC sells us booster boxes, what are we boosting? I wish they would release a product that you could use to get into a new set without the complete randomness of the booster box. Imagine a challenger deck experience, with a couple of boosters included. Booster boxes could still be available, but with the expectation that you should start from a product that gets you started less chaotically. And don't get me started on the MSRP of packs and boxes - it may be fine for adults, but it would be great if WoTC cared to get more kids playing. And I've known college students to quit the game because they can't afford it! For me, and I do love cracking packs, Profs warning is sound because for most sets the risk on a given booster box is too great to justify if you aren't making use of the sealed product for sealed formats. Between that, and my point about there not being anything else but booster packs to buy each new set from Wizards, I think a complaint is warranted. Anyway, just my thoughts.

If I were the Profs LGS . . . I'd probably give him full price knowing that he intends to buy another box if possible. At $300. Plus then I could resell those cards as usual, and at least for the truly special ones, I might casually mention that the card happened to be among those Prof opened in the video. Might be worth something to the right person lol.

I also did an UMA Booster Box game, I did it at my LGS. I ended up chaining TWELVE boxes. I did not keep most of the cards, but I did get to keep a topper Cavern, Ulamog, Kozilek, and Stirring Wildwood- also got to keep a Foil Karn and a Snapcaster Mage. There weren't very many cards from the set I wanted, honestly it was mostly for a chance at the two box toppers I actually want- Ancient Tomb and Temporal Manipulation.

Coming back 2 years later it’s crazy to see how prices have changed Leovold $17->$5 Foil Dig Through Time $2->$8 Phyrexian Altar $15->$50 Heirarch $44->$19 Fulminator Mage $8-> Less than $1 Demonic Tutor $19->$55 Etc etc. (I used Mtggoldfish for my current prices before you get upset that X card isn’t *actually* X price. It’s close enough)
