I use Black Widow Pencils and I have no trouble blending them in any of Johanna’s books in the UK. Try using a blending pencil as well I find that helps sometimes xx

I have both skin tone sets of black widows, the monarch and dragon sets. I hope you do a skin tutorial using black widows skin sets on Strathmore Colored Pencil paper!!

I thought it turned out really well!!! Maybe (maybe?) I'm weird but I liked how the colors blended a little rough. Of course Stickles fixed the gold, which I liked anyway. My thing with black widows is to not use them on tiny things, or really open areas either. Medium areas seem to bring out the best in the bl. widows. I loved your color choices. I'm sorry to keep missing lives. I fell asleep. Health is bad--it's either long covid or one persistent flare, and add depression because I now have to wear a full splint on right index finger ---for 6 weeks at least. Might take 6 MONTHS O-O. It's already been 6 months. Tough year. Really bad trigger finger. avoiding surgery. Can't do that. It's a phobia. Now cant do much art with splint. *crying face* watching videos helps, thank you. took forever to type thid comment.

I think that the paper that the book is printed with just doesn’t like Black Widow Pencils. I have a friend who cannot get 🕷✏️ to blend well in the JoAnna B’s books

That's exactly it. That's why I did this video and the previous one testing these pencils in the US edition of this book. I am going to try out the Square Brutfuners next to see if they work well in this book. So far, out of all the pencils I've tested so far, the Prismacolors have been fabulous and a joy to work with on this paper.

Hi, have you tried Prismacolor watercolor pencils as a base for the colored pencils ? Also have you tried Faber Castell Classic colours budget friendly pencils ? Sorry this is off topic. ☺️

Pamela, I purchased your Black Widow Swatch Chart. There are two pages. Are the pages supposed to print out to cover the entire 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper? Mine does not.

I’m curious why you chose the mahogany? It seems to be more of a reddish color, I wouldn’t think it would go well in a gold blend. Of course I know next to nothing.

i’m in the uk and don’t find i have any issues with the bw in the book, however, i do only have bw and square brutfuners, and i’m no pro, so i’d love to see what you think of these pencils in the uk version. i am having trouble with the brutfuners, but that could be just because i need to get used them. i love seeing my bw in videos, love them so much, and love your videos too, i’ve learnt so much over the last few months 😊

Very pretty! Yes, Black Widows have wonderful colors but don't blend well. Blender pencils don't work at all. Not even gamsol. So you have to color very carefully - layering is not going to help much. Rather variation in pressure.

The Black Widows do work very well in other books, just not on this paper. They blend beautifully in Johanna's previous books like World of Flowers. They just work better with a toothier paper.
