Let's Redesign Angel (from Lilo & Stitch)

Maybe instead of a screech making people go feral, it's her laughter? Like imagine, her laughing makes people go nuts, and the chaos makes her laugh even harder, until she's rolling around the floor with this wild, childish belly laugh! I think that would also have huge gremlin energy. Could also lead to an interesting story arc if it's involuntary, like her laughing just does that whether she wants it or not. Love the redesign, by the way! I never really liked the other one as a kid, but maybe that's just the "ew, girlaaa" mentality that little boys tend to have, lol

I feel her design here is good , though a little barren . Stitch has his six limb form with a bunch of spikes & antennae too - he only really changed to pass as a dog . I think Angel needs a "non-dog" form too - one with all the fixin's to really feel like she and Stitch are fellow monsters - albeit monsters of mischief and cuteness :]

3:43 Im glad you pointed out the fact that Stitch having a "sexy" love interest is inherently creepy because he is portrayed as childlike. I always found stuff like that in kid movies/shows to be uncomfortable. Also, I love how the design turned out, she is embodiment of gremlin energy.

I absolutely LOVE this redesign as an Angel lover....I agree with another commenter having the long antennae would be a choice too. (But seriously you just drew me as one of Jumba's experiments) 🤣 It is very odd and sad that her original design is very corporate merch coded. My husband and I will occasionally get matching sets of Stitch and Angel for sentimental reasons.... But literally just today I had to wonder to myself why is there SO much merch of Angel but not ANY other experiment (She was in 2 episodes and as a pink femme coded version of Stitch.... her original design is kind of boring tbh) I love Reuben's design as a basic, I'd LOVE a plush. Or Sparky.... They literally have have so much merch material yet they door-jam forced a romantic attachment with Stitch that was, as you brought out very inappropriate either way it's spun.... I will definitely give more forethought into what I'm willing to let Capitalism take, but I'll go to bed cuddled between Sleepy Stitch and Angel pillows tonight and think of some more experiment designs

While I think they meant "cousin" in the Hawaiian context, as a general term of endearment, I won't deny that it still feels very odd given they are considered his relatives!

@@TheSmolBrit I do definitely agree, since some of the experiments are wildly different from Stitch. I just find it even weirder that of all of the designs they could've done for Angel, they made her look like a straight up gender-bent version of Stitch, so even if she is in no way genetically related to Stitch, she still looks like the experiment that is most related to him. Well, aside from Reuben, Leroy, Zero, or 627, as they all look like they could be skin recolors of one another. Which is no hate to any of them either.

So, I have been a fan of this franchise for about five years. Not that I’m bragging, just thought I’d give some background info. Angel has been one of my favorite characters of this franchise ever since I discovered her at 9 (I didn’t get into the fandom until 2019 however). I do still like her, but since 2019, the experiment in my profile picture (Experiment 248, Belle) has since become my most favorite. That makes Angel my second favorite. However, I don’t think that will influence my experiences with her and my opinions about her and this video. To clarify, I will say that I am a woman, and that while I don’t speak for all women of course since we all have our own unique experiences as we are very diverse and are human beings, I do feel like I can speak on Angel as a female character. I have never really felt bothered by Angel to be honest, as someone who has a variety of interests that are commonly associated with women and men, (these aren’t things women and men should feel that they have to conform to, I’m just saying that it’s common to see this pattern with these interests) like trains, cars, makeup, jewelry, shows and games with a high amount of female characters whether major or minor (like Lilo & Stitch), classic rock music, and, drawing people and characters I like (art, to me, comes off as a thing people usually think as being a gender neutral thing, I’m just saying that i like drawing things that reflect my interests, see above), I think Angel is pretty adorable, has a nice aesthetic, funny, and, pretty interesting and well-written to a certain extent. I do accept having a very feminine (high femme?), pink, eyelashy experiment who sings as there are also a lot of good, pretty unique amount of female experiments (the yellow furred blue eyes one donning the pink bow you’ve shown early in the video is named Clip, and she’s pretty feisty and likable). There’s also Bonnie, the green furred one who accompanies Clyde and they spread chaos together, and she’s a pretty awesome, clever tomboyish figure in the show. There’s also a purple bowed gray dog like experiment who looks like a normal animal save for the alien gray eyes, Gigi, also known as Yapper. Her ability is to literally bark nonstop, slightly more than a typical noisy dog which will never not be funny to me. My favorite one, though, is the cyan one who screams in order to scare enemies, Belle. As sad as it is that this specific specimen didn’t get enough screen time, she still has her own personality and thing going on, with being pretty timid and docile, yet has almost this cryptid like energy and loves scaring people by screaming ominously. 9 year old me loved that. There are also female characters who, design wise, aren’t obviously female coded with the eyelashes and bows and other tools used to code them. Yin, a turquoise amalgamation of an alien gray, a jellyfish, octopus, and slug. Her ability is to generate water from her body and control water similar to Kyogre from Pokemon. There’s also an indigo furred one from the Leroy and Stitch movie, Sproing, who uses her springy abdomen to launch boulders and help raise people up. I could list more characters, heavily coded and ones not so coded, however, I want to move on to my next point, but I will say that they’re all lovely and have great designs, as you’ve stated in your video. So yeah, while I do like Angel’s design. I do agree that she does heavily resemble Stitch and while I don’t mind that much, I accept others who do think that’s a bit strange. While her facial features and body type do differ from Stitch to a certain extent, and she was created near his creation time, I do accept that there are those who wanted more thought into her design. So, I have no qualms with people disagreeing with me here, that is completely fine as no two people have the exact same standards of what is good character design and that’s alright (in fact, I enjoy a lot of the hated Pokemon designs that were designed after inanimate objects like klefki and klingklang and so on and so forth). The only problem I really have with Angel is that one scene with her running up and singing to Jumba (iykyk) and Pleakley referring to her as a “female little monster” in the Snafu episode (I love the man and all, but it felt a little weird for him to say that instead of just “little monster” or even “pink little monster” but maybe that’s just me lol). (The latter isn’t directed towards her I suppose but another character who knew her). Not to mention she didn’t get too much exploration except for in the anime which is always a good thing but it’s sad that the original series didnt, and that a lot of merch treats her as kind of an extension of Stitch rather than being a whole individual herself? It’s not like this all the time but it’s extremely common and it kind of breaks my heart no offense, and it’s just what I’ve seen personally. The only problem I have with this video, is the part where Stitch was theorized to be child coded and that either makes Angel a horrible individual or a child herself and therefore put in an inappropriately romantic light. I could be wrong, but I swear I once heard that Stitch was a few months old in the movie but quickly grew up in the series (and, judging from his interactions with Angel, does seem to be an adult by then) (as for Lilo and the others being the same age, that can be chalked up to Stitch growing up faster, like a dog, just being able to live for a very long time as he is an extraterrestrial. Even then, I could be wrong about him being a few months old? I’m not sure if he was child coded in the movie or was just a bit timid and disruptive and confused with how the planet Earth works since he just arrived at that planet, he comes off as being a pet honestly rather than Lilo’s younger brother? It hurt to hear that, no offense. Don’t get me wrong, I am vehemently against child characters being treated in horrendous ways. And it is a huge problem, as well as in real life too. (Like with a certain person having a now trending documentary about them as they were associated with a tv channel, iykyk) and cartoons having this problem (2016 PPG, for example). However, I don’t think it’s fair to say that Lilo & Stitch: The Series, has this problem. In my mind, it doesn’t. Not because I love it so much, but because the bad signs just aren’t there. As someone who has had bad experiences with users from DeviantArt as an adolescent, I just don’t see it. To heal from that trauma of being engaged in such a bad way at a non-fully developed age, I used this show and many other things to heal and to invoke childhood memories, and I never had that interpretation. I regard Stitch and Angel as being two goofy, mischievous, adult extraterrestrial beings who found romance and true love in the form of their relationship, as they have had similar fates with being malicious, monstrous villains redeemed into experiment reforming, kind, yet still troublesome heroes. And that, is okay. Because it is not what I’ve went through, and it is not like the actual examples I have listed. Cool redesign though. We stan a pink, hyper gremlin friend.

Honestly instead of a love interest I think angel would be better off as a sister considering she looks like his sister and looks more closely related to him than almost every other character in the show. If she has to be his love interest then I'd prefer her design altered so that she does not in fact look like his sister and looks more distantly related like most of the other experiments. Personally I think pairing designs like Stitch and Angel, Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny as well as other such romantic pairings reek of racial stuff (racism). Like no interracial (interspecies for basically all of these examples) romance allowed, ya gotta stick with your own 'kind', it's the only thing that makes sense and we won't tolerate anything else.
