Let's Remember - What Really Happened to Three's Company?
Do you know the backstory of what really happened on Threes Company? Joyce Dewitt, Suzanne Somers, John Ritter, Jenilee Harris, Priscilla Barnes, Don Knotts, Norman Fell, Audra Lindley and Richard Kline all had stories to tell. Three’s Company came on the air in 1977, and the show quickly became a major success thanks to the chemistry of its three stars. Those stars were John Ritter, Suzanne Somers, and Joyce DeWitt. Of those three stars, Suzanne and Joyce are still alive, and they love paying their respects to the late John Ritter by sharing stories.

Whether it be the Somers contract issues and controversy or the raw deal for the Ropers by the network. We take a look at the facts and details.
Suzanne never liked how much more John was paid than she and Joyce were, so she asked for a raise several seasons into the series. The producers decided they’d rather fire her, and John took her exit from the series as a personal betrayal. Later, Joyce felt betrayed by John when he didn’t tell her about the spin-off series that he had lined up after Three’s Company came to an end.
Joyce DeWitt (Janet Wood), Richard Kline (Larry Dallas), Priscilla Barnes (Terri Alden) and Jenilee Harrison (Cindy Snow)

I had a hunch he would be friendly and accessible. Though a star, he never a DIVO who put on airs or looked down on fans. You're lucky to have worked with him. I liked him not just because of his comedic talent because under the surface was a caring and sensitive soul who never lost his humility.

There is one very funny story of how Don Knotts joined the show. The producers wanted a "Don Knotts" type character and one said "why not get Don Knotts" none of them thought he would do the show. Don Knotts daughter was a huge fan the Three Company show and told him he should do it.

As much of a fan as I am of everything John Ritter ever did, I must say that his role as the mall manager in Bad Santa truly takes the cake for me. His physical discomfort at every coarse word from Billy Bob is just gut wrenchingly funny to me. It’s like he can taste it. RIP. Not true, Ritter was playing a straight guy (so no need for the gay stereotype). But when pretending to be gay for Mr. Roper, he played up the stereotype (assuming that's what Mr. Roper would expect). The stars of the show were great, but the homophobic attitudes of the 70's were ever present.

I wonder if John Ritter felt any symptoms that led to his untimely passing. True he was stricken without prior warning on the set of his show, rushed to the hospital, and died a few hours later. I did notice his face having gotten puffy and bloated during his final series. He seemed somewhat tired. Also, I wondered if he visited his doctor for a checkup and blood work.

That's a really good and unfortunately tragic question. Perhaps education on symptoms of heart issues could be beneficial for people.

But have been battling cancer. For quite some time I believe. But she was so gifted. I loved her in the show threes company. She also was on the show step-by-step. She played Carol Lambert. No Carol Foster. I’m sorry, but she did become Carol Lambert, because she got married, I can’t remember the character and I don’t know why I’m drawing a blank but her husband on the TV show step-by-step. Oh, never mind. Frank. Sorry. But I really am so sad to hear. On the passing of Suzanne Summer. I noticed is still a shock, and still freshly new. Rest in peace Suzanne Summers, travel well with the angels. 34:39

Such a telling clip at the end with Johnny Carson. I’ve heard he did not have good relations with his kids and, much as I liked him on tv, off screen he apparently was a jerk. Anyway to see him say his own kids didn’t understand his job, and John say his kids got it immediately. Johnny couldn’t understand how to even get thru to his kids. That said so much about them as people.

John Ritter’s death was a blow to me since I crushed hard on him as a kid when he was on Three’s Company. I remember this episode at the party. 😅

My 23 yr. old son and I are big fans of Threes Company. We are always talking about the fact that Jenilee Harrison was by far the most beautiful of all the girls that were ever on the show. We just don't understand why they would replace her after only one season!!! I disagree with the narrator on this video that she was too much like Crissy. Crissy was dumb. Cindy was clumsy. No disrespect to Pricilla Barnes, but she was no comparison in looks to Jenilee Harrison, Jenilee had a gorgeous figure too, which Barns couldn't hold a candle too. And Jenilee's character Cindy allowed for many funny physical gags, frequently allowing Ritter to show his physical comedy. Summers was good, Harrison was better, but I did not care as much for Barnes. My son and I complain about this every time we watch this show during the season that Jenilee was on it. We say: WHY WOULD THEY REPLACE HER!!!!!!! (I was hoping this video would have given a bit more insight as to why Harrison had to leave the show) In my opinion the Ropers were by far the best and funniest landlords. I guess if you had to find a replacement Don Knotts is about as good as you could get, and Furley was good, but the Ropers and their running gags were much funnier to me.

I liked clumsy Cindy better than dumb Chrissy too.

Rest in Peace Jack and Crissy. My fav is Jack at the party too! I always look forward to it in repeats, I hated that they would re-edit and cut out John's full performance. Classic TV and nothing ever again like it. Faults and all.

I do agree most of the episodes have aged poorly, but that's true of a lot of TV shows great or otherwise. It's a guilty pleasure of sorts for me, brings back a lot of fun memories. The entire cast was great in its own way, but a special shout out to John Ritter, a gifted comedic actor taken way too soon, Audra Lindley, Norman Fell, Don Knotts, and any of the other ones that I forgot that may have passed away

Heather R If you think this show has aged poorly, it could be that its you that have aged poorly. I refuse to be brainwashed into the so called "woke" culture of today. So there is NOTHING on Threes Company that in any way offends me or wouldn't be relevant to the way I think now. I am awake, but not woke!!!!!!

Thank you so much for making this video!!! It was very informative and you picked my favorites, I guess those episodes really stuck with us huh 🤔🤗. John Ritter was a comedic genius, I always had the biggest crush on him, still do 😂❤... My Papa was friends with John's dad back in the day, and my Papa remembers John as a child. I wish that I could have met him in my lifetime, but sadly he was gone to soon 😢... But he will always live on in our hearts 🤗💜💜💜
