I used that Dap Leveler in my house this Fall because I had to level out the sub-floor in 5 rooms to prepare for new flooring. The sub-floor was 60+ years old, had to hand scrape what seemed like tons of old, antique leveler, pound nails back in, and then level - DAP worked great for me. Always enjoy your videos; thanks for the inspiration and your willingness to help when needed.

@vancouvercarpenter14 күн бұрын
I mean there is obviously more to it but it shows the general idea. It has to be adequately supported below. You are increasing the load on the two sides and changing where it lands. In this case there is a beam running the entire length of the house in the floor below directly under this one.
@tay1366614 күн бұрын
@@vancouvercarpenter Yeah. You have to understand how structure works. Be able to identify what you have above and below. As well as really understand point-loads. Then there is the understanding of what you need to be able to span the distance and support the weight. Most people in the trades have a decent grasp on this stuff, just by the nature of the work and everything you pick up on job sites. Also helps knowing people that know the stuff you don't, so you can ask for advice.

My sisters have always liked that I use my daughters when doing DIY stuff since our dad never taught them. He didn't teach me much either really (though he was pretty handy). My oldest daughter is my cable pulling partner as I rewire my sister's house for electrical, data, and phone. I taught my son some maintenance and then found out he had almost no tools (from my first marriage and he is now and adult but been mostly with his mom), so sent him a decent intro kit. Good question. I just figured one side would be enough. It was supporting trusses not a floor system so it didn’t need a lot.

Thanks for this! I was tackling laminate flooring in a small house this weekend. Realizing that the wide open spaces, while bad for my knees, aren’t the biggest issue. It’s the multitude of doorways and protrusions near walls that make it hard to just lay down and click in the flooring at the right angles. It’s like a 3D jigsaw, at least for me. What are the better cutting tools for flooring, and do I have excuse to buy a new tool? (I have a multitool for small / finicky cuts and I am thinking about using a circular saw for longer cuts but need to figure out how to support the very flexible planks better…)

Man, I used to like your vídeos just showing and teaching the work but I have to tell, just love this video Man, just keep it! And I do have a question, don't the festool sander scratch the mud? I have a sender like that (not a festool) and I can't use it to sand the finish mud work, just use it to remove texture and things like thst because it doesn't leave a good finish. Does festool work well on finishing mud work?
@vancouvercarpenter13 күн бұрын
The Festool is pretty smooth but still requires a very quick pass with a black widow sander to make it perfect. If you watch it again you will see that pass.
