This was a lot of fun - trying out something new. I hope this gets good business for Let's Resin AND for you, Ken. It was a good idea to try these out as you did. Though you had never used the molds before (I presume) you do have resin experience. It was also a good test to show Leigh Ann, who did not have mold or resin experience able to use the products successfully. LOL, you should do commercials! P.S. Nice to meet you, Leigh Ann! Glad you had fun with the resins. Now you see what keeps Ken in his play room so much. We might even get to see more of you in the future if you get hooked on playing with resin, too!

Things I have learned: *HOT resin will adhere to the silicone. Be super careful when popping bubbles. Ive ruined several molds this way. *pre-warming the molds in a toaster oven set on the lowest possible helps the resin flow better into the mold. Note, warm resin is more viscus, causing colors to mix more if you're using more then one color this can be a problem. *I like to dust molds with corn starch just to make extra sure the resin doesnt stick

It’s good to see that this resin works pretty well with molds. I’m planning to try using little ultrasonic jewelry cleaner machine to get rid of bubbles until I can afford a pressure pot. The resin you showed is quite a bit cheaper than most other kinds, nd I love the idea of just using pumps instead of weighing the stuff. Do you store them with the pumps in the bottles,or if not, how do you keep the pump tops clean and cleared for the next use?
@MoonpieCreations
@MoonpieCreations 4 жыл бұрын
I would suggest Thickset or the Makers Resin. Both will work good without a pressure pot. I poured a 2 1/2" platter and got almost no bubbles in it. I store the pumps in them, but my last pump I lock them down. I just wipe the tip of with a paper towel. Use MPC20 for 20% off if you do buy TotalBoat. I would love to see some of your work. Hit me up on Facebook at Moonpie Creations. Ken

Although I appreciate your concern. There are no fumes coming off this resin for me to be concerned about. Unlike a lot of other resins and I have used many different resins, some of of which put off a very high chemical odor, TotalBoat 3:1 does not. I'm not telling you or anyone else not to use a respirator, I'm saying I have no concerns of fumes from the 3:1 TotalBoat. When I turn it on my lathe is a different story. Ken

I bought these items through your links...can't wait to create with my grandbabies. I don't have the resin yet, is total boat what I would use? And is it safe for children? Probably silly question, I saw a horrible video of a woman that had been doing resin on cups (without ventilation) he she ended up getting sick and she is saying she thinks it's because of the resin. I know if I choose to do resin I will use an air mask of some sort, but wasn't I'm assuming if the weather is good, outside would be best?
@MoonpieCreations
@MoonpieCreations 4 жыл бұрын
I saw that video also. I use 2:1 Slow (I am thinking of getting Fast). I mix it without a mask and have never had an issue. BUT, you should always use a mask, gloves and safety glasses when handling resin. A respirator it highly advised while turning it. No matter what someone says you are still handling chemicals. The Resin I use was originally made for fiberglass boats so we are sort of repurposing it. Is resin safe for kids? It was not made for kids, but with proper safety and supervision I think (this is my own personal opinion) that they will be alright. Ken

Question: I too bought alcohol ink from "Let's Resin". The instructions say to add one drop of colored alcohol ink in and ONE drop of white on top of it. Also, says not to stir the resin after ou add the alcohol ink . Now it's talking about making a petri dish? So can I assume this instruction is only for a petri dish? And is petri dish like the round mold?
@MoonpieCreations
@MoonpieCreations 4 жыл бұрын
Lily, I would say yes it is for the petri dish look. YOu can do it on any of the molds for coasters. But when doing a pour you should add and mix to what you want it to look like. Remember the Inks darken over a few minutes. So you may want to do a few drops mix and wait. Ken

use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner machine to get rid of bubbles. When they come to the surface I torch them. This way you eliminate a ton of bubles and micro bubbles I also pop any pesky bibbles in the mold with a torch. You have to be quick with the torch, don't hold it in one place

I don't know if someone commented this or not, but alcohol inks have a really cool affect when you use them properly. You can use them like you did for the blue heart dish. But usually its one drop of color, then drop one drop of white into the center of that colorful spot you had made. And just continue that process until you get your desired affect. You will see the alcohol ink reacting with the white almost instantly, the colors with move around and spread. And in the end, it will have a cool looking 'petri dish' affect to it! I hope this helps, but sorry if someone already said this!
