And here we are, the resolution to the stories of Jaime, Cersei, Arya, the Hound, Sansa, Tyrion, and Jon. Please keep in mind that I'm trying to work within what the show gave us, so not everything here is what I would *perfectly* like. My perfect rewrite would involve a Mad Queen Daenerys and a loooong period of dealing with the aftermath of the Unsullied, Dothraki, and the power vacuum, but merely two episodes limited me. What did you think? Love your support for me and Supreme Leader Mishka! www.patreon.com/hellofutureme Get my book! tinyurl.com/y5mwpyyj Instagram? instagram.com/tim_hickson_hfm/ Stay nerdy! ~ Tim

Absolutely agreed. Apart from my previous headcanon that *IF* the Iron Throne were to survive, Sansa would follow how neatly GRRM had set her up as a parallel to Elizabeth I, and use the knowledge of "playing the game" that she had gained the hard way to bring Westeros into a Renaissance of sorts. With Ser Brienne as the head of her Queensguard, of course, and Tyrion as her faithful Walsingham. These being the words of a history junkie, who's been finding the historical parallels for everyone in the books since my first reading. @@fakub2026 Because the Drogon is no longer the destroyer of men previous battles have established him as being. He's relegated to support, weighed down by armor which logically should do nothing to stop missile projectiles capable of piercing the toughest scales in the world. The Targeryen dragons have gone from the deciding factor in their conquests to being the backup. The Lannisters losing the the battle proper had nothing to do with their supposed incompetence. It was them going up against the equivalent of a nuke. Edit: Further consideration. Drogon destroying the scorpions himself can be symbolic of humans folly of trying to take down the apex predator with unwieldy siege engines not traditionally designed for precision aiming, and thus unable to hit a moving, unimpeded target that knows about their existence and fly accordingly.

@@Revenante_of_Asylum In the rewrite they would lose too but Daenerys holds back, is like USA deciding to not nuke Japan. And we see the Scorpions piercing Dragon bones, the armor only give him a little more time to keep burning things. And it makes sense that they will give him an armor because Rhaegal died last episode without one, and Daenerys will be afraid of losing his last son.
@Revenante_of_Asylum
@Revenante_of_Asylum 5 жыл бұрын
@@fakub2026Rhaegal died last episode because he was injured and having trouble flying, and was caught off guard flying at leisure and not in a active combat situation. The main strength and defense dragons have against those bolts are dodging them entirely, which is easy to do when you are mindful of them, as they're incredibly heavy and cumbersome, hard to aim in a close up combat situation when your enemy is flying circles around you. The armor is completely redundant given how hard dragon scales are, and worse would only serve to make the dragon wearing it more susceptible to scorpion attacks by virtue of making Drogon a slower, easier target. Daenerys and others would more reasonably assess that any bolt able to pierce dragon hide would be more than capable of punching through any man-made plates like paper, except maybe made from metals like Valyrian Steel.

@@kamerasengan Check out Charisma on Command's video on how Tyrion plays the game of thrones. Basically, one of Tyrion's greatest strengths as a political manipulator is that he cares what it is that people want and makes it so that he is their best option for getting it. Think of pretty much every one of his greatest and most believable manipulations: "What do you want, Bron, gold, women? Golden women?" "Don't fight for your king and don't fight for your country, and don't fight for riches because you won't get any... those are your gates Stannis is knocking on, and if he gets in, it will be your homes he destroys." One of the first things he does when he is with the night's watch in season 1 is to learn the stories of everybody. "A Lannister always pays his debts." Soon after meeting Varys: "What do you want? Tell me." With the hill tribes, he offers them weapons to take the Vale for themselves. Different players of the game have different strategies. Tywin exuded power and put everybody under himself, LittleFinger treated people like pawns to be lied to and manipulated, Varys plays a subtle game, rarely ever trying to change the way others think, but instead learning who would be best able and willing to further his goals (or the goals of the realm) and ensuring that they are given the information to do so. Tyrion's strategy is to treat people like people, each with their own desires and stories. At the very end, him treating Jon like a person and recognising that he has his own things that he wants rather than just assuming, like so many other players of the game do, that Jon must want whatever Tyrion would want in his situation... well, that would seem like a final reminder of why he was so successful for so long and that this is the same Tyrion.

I like this ending a lot better. It makes a lot more sense logically and thematically. The seven kingdoms were forged in dragon fire so the last dragon dying with Dany and the cruel quest for power dying with Cersei leaving a path for total independence is something I can understand. The fact that Dorne and the Iron Islands did not demand their own independence in the finale really highlights how D&D don't really understand this world at all. I still don't think this series did enough to show Sansa as a competent leader, they just kept saying she totally was without tangible examples but leaving her to rule with Tyrion as her hand improves on that a bit. And Jon choosing to leave and live beyond the wall on his own terms and not part of some weird nonsense punishment gives a lot more closure to his ending

I goddamn love your ending for Tyrion. I can so clearly see him tearing up at the Hand of the Queen pin, evaluating it, looking back up at Sansa and slowly taking it from her. It capitalises on their deep, complex respect for one another and is honestly just a nice idea, them living out the rest of their days in Winterfell together. Excellent. I think what I love most about rewriting Game of Thrones is that the show has already done so many seasons of masterful character work, setting up conflicting themes and parallels within every relationship that can each be individually tracked and woven together for satisfying conclusions. The groundwork is there, but the final season just left so many pieces on the table. Yara, for example. She contributes nothing to the broader story, but her story obviously needs to be paired with Euron’s to satisfy both of their arcs (he’s introduced by stealing her home from her, they meet later when he kills most of her men, he captures her by humiliating her brother and she - never sees him again?). So while I think some things could have been reworked even more to be slightly more thematically engaging - The Hound could easily choose to forgo his revenge on The Mountain by choosing to save Arya from something, as she’s what steered him away from that path (and him, her). Even having him fight The Mountain *for* Arya would do the trick, and not just completely undercut his entire character development - I applaud your incredible ability to pick up and satisfyingly the off all these different narrative threads. The breaking up of the Kingdoms, for example, was a genuine master stroke, and shows a deep awareness of the political world we’ve been shown for so long. Why the hell would the Iron Islands and Dorne stick around if the North got to bow out? And why should the rest of the Kingdoms stay together if the other three got to leave? It all makes perfect sense in a way that the show completely failed to even attempt. So well done! Thank you for at the very least sparking the inspiration in me to consider how I would have ended this show, how my construction of this season would have treated each character and theme. It’s been a fascinating thought experiment and has removed at least some of the bitter taste left over from an unsatisfying finale.

One minor change. I would add a scene where Jon leaves longclaw at winterfell saying he wont need it where hes headed This would make jon entire leave his heritage for a peaceful life and the Starks getting a valyrian steel sword again. Also a scene when tormund and jon meet up and tormund calls him king in the north and kneels before jon tells him “we dont kneel around here” At which tormund laughs like he usually does I feel like these little callbacks is what the show desperately needed. But not in a forced manner and for absolutely no worth. Just make it smooth Wish you were the writer all along

I absolutely loved this ending, it felt so much more like the early seasons of GoT we all fell in love with! The only thing I would like to add is a small detail on the death of Danerys: As she lies dying, next to Drogon and surrounded by her faithful Bloodriders, her gaze shifts towards the skies. There, in the last moments of her tragic life, she recalls words spoken to her, so long ago now it seems almost as a dream. And as she dies, a faint smile forms upon her lips, and with her dying breath she utters: "My sun and stars.."

Ok, small brief change that i think would be better. Jaime confronts cercei alone in a tower of the red keep. An open window beside them. Jamie yells at cercei for murdering thousands of innocents. Cercei screams that everything she does and will do is for him and her unborn child. Jaime says that love is kind and unharming. You cannot murder thousands in the name of love. You are not a queen. You are a monster. Cercei screams and pushes Jaime through the tower window. At the last second, Jaime grabs cercei's heel and pulls her through the window with him and falling to their deaths. The final shot is both of them broken and bloodied on the ground, with Jaime' s hand on cercei's heel. That's just a small change I would make. In the first book cercei says that their mid wife said that he came out with a hand on her heel. They would exit the world the same way they entered, together with a hand on her heel

I especially like that he called her sister, for two reasons. The original stigma around their relationship was because they were siblings, it drove so many plots, trying to hide it and killing kids and whatnot, and then the later seasons just kind of ignored it, and Cersei being mad while Jaime tried to deal with her became the main conflict in their relationship. And more importantly, I always felt that their bond was so strong because they were twins, and that is also why they turned to each other when they reached sexual awakening, not the least because they lived in such a politically charged environment that the only people they could trust not to kill them is either themselves or literal twins. I was kind of hoping that with so much incest going on in this story, writers had tried to destigmatize romantic relationships between related people; although it does lead to unbelievable amount of genetic diseases, we cannot ignore that it has a huge social prejudice and ick factor against it too. Its wierd, but its also more natural than people think that people we trust and love the most in the world are the ones we have known our entire life. Its a very prevalent yet hidden problem all around the world, and all the negative connotations around it just make it more of a forbidden fruit. Dating your cousins is practically porn by now. We really need to talk about this.

It's an interesting ending but I don't get how it is redemption. Episode one he is a King Slayer who attempts to murder a child for the sake of love. In the end he becomes a Queen Slayer who murders his own child for the sake of... justice? I don't know. It definitely brings up strong feelings, but not 'Ah yes, Jaime is redeemed ' more like 'oh shit, he will be a monarch killing child murderer forevermore'.

Everything is perfect for character arcs... I would love it if these two things also happened: 1. Bran and Samwell should go to the Citadel, for one is the entire human history book and other knows the ways of Citadel. Just like Bran sees visions by touching the weirwood tree, he can see visions by absorbing the light of that big discoball atop the citadel (since that has always been teased in the intro) 2. Just to give justice to Jon's Targaryen lineage, I think it would be great to see Jon surviving dragon fire in one of the battles. Maybe in the battle of winterfell against Viserion. While Viscerion is wreaking havoc, Jon sees Arya sneaking into Godswood and after buying some time distracting Viserion, he supposedly plunges to his death to distract/kill Viscerion. The ice dragon breathes blue fire and tearing out of the flames emerges Jon, digging Longclaw deep into viscerion's throat... or whatever.

1. Agreed. It would also be the perfect shot to end the series on. Bran can finally have a reason to live (exploring the memories of Westeros) and Sam would be a wonderful person to get the last line of dialogue because he is GRRM's proxy. I love the rewrite, but ending on Sansa and Tyrion planning food supplies is slightly underwhelming. A teeny wink to the 4th wall by having Bran interact with the "disco-ball" (LOL) from the intro and Sam sitting down to write the story of the Ice & Fire could be perfect if done right.

King bran is not so out of the loop. But the show doesn't build on it and basically forgets all of the greenseers power. The ones who Broke the arm of Dorne and sunk it into the ocean was the greenseers and then tried it again in moat caylinn and turned the entire area into a swamp. By all rights bran is as close to a god as there is once he masters his powers. This could be used to heal the land (also with nk being dead there shouldn't be year long winters) and feed the people after most of the kingdoms have been raised. There is also the fact that Brynden lived 120 years meaning bran could rule a good 100 years or more this having plenty of time to stabilize the realm and form a loyalist backing (Franklin Roosevelt was elected president for 12 years and many doubted that he would ever loose an election if he kept running for president due to so many voters basically growing up with him as president)

It's the only logical thing really if you think about it. They've always been independent kingdoms until the Targaryans came and had to kneel because of the superior (literal) firepower. Now all the dragons and all the Targaryans are gone, why would they stay together?
@frking100
@frking100 5 жыл бұрын
@@AliceDiableaux Because it is economically advantageous. The 7 kingdoms being united means that there is no wars inside the continent allowing for uninterrupted trade. There would also be little to no trade tariffs as they are all part of the same nation. It also gives the country more trade power when dealing with other nations. It is also good for defending from foreign invaders or trade wars. The coinage system would also need to be changed and would devalue and compete with all the coins in the same continent not to mention that minting coins is incredibly expensive.These are all important points as every kingdom gets substantially weaker now that it is independent. We can look at our own history why a united country is better than separate kingdoms. A modern example would be the EU and the UK. During medieval times there was the HRE, China, Spain, France all which where separate smaller kingdoms united to have a better economy despite having different cultures and sometimes different languages (even today Spain has many municipalities that have completely different cultures to their neighbor and France while less obvious can be observed in the countries outskirts)
@ReporterRed
@ReporterRed 5 жыл бұрын
@@AliceDiableaux Also, while the reign of the Targaryens wasn't all perfect and peaceful (there were still civil wars and rebellions), Westeros was characterized by the Seven Kingdoms' constant warring and feuding over minor issues like border disputes and bloody conquests prior to being united under the Targaryens. War was a constant before the Targaryens united the realm, and compared to this time period, there was relative peace and more prosperity under the Targaryens. Again, it certainly wasn't perfect, but it was a lot better. A lot of people don't like the current ending of GoT because they believe the nobles would just logically subvert the elective monarchy and go to civil war, and while this is certainly a possibility, it's almost guaranteed if the Seven Kingdoms broke apart again. It would just return to the old days of constant wars and even more needless violence and death. It would be regression, not progression.

I really appreciate what you said about Jamie lapsing back into his love for Cersei not invalidating his trajectory as a character. At the same time, it is true that a Cersei who was not out of character would not hesitate to sacrifice innocents by the score (seriously, there was no good reason for her not to use wildfire effectively), and after his journey, Jamie would not have been able to just stand by. So to me it seems that if the pieces had been moved correctly, the only reasonable outcome would have been for Jamie to kill Cersei. As an aside, I do hope that in the books both Jon and Jamie kill their Queens, it would be so thematically fitting for the series to end with the Kingslayer reconfirming himself as such (though in different circumstances) and for the most honorable man left alive to commit the same crime. In true ASOIAF fashion, there is no privileged outlook on life, only actions and consequences, and opposite paths can lead to the same (yet differently nuanced) result. Fooling myself into thinking you'll read this and reply, were you thinking about what Bronn said about all noble houses being founded by cutthroats and killers when you had Tyrion give him the Rock? Not that a no would make it any less a stroke of genius.

How about i say start an online fundraising for this rewrite to be filmed by good director and acted well by good actors? I mean the community can do it. Hell, all the fans dissatisfied with the original ending can do it.

We have to go back to each individual moment of bad writing and erase it. From bad poosi to Sansa being pawned off to Ramsey by little finger for no logical reason.

Im having a hard time wrapping around my head that episodes of 30 minute narration done in a few days As a thought experiment Made me feel so much more eMOTION than more than an hour of whole episodes with complete and stunning visuals and writers paid to do it with huge amounts money and a lot more time at their disposal D&D fucked up big time is a massive understatement

Not only are your rewrites worlds better, your dialogue inserts are so, so in character, and you even manage to get the actors' vocal inflections while saying the lines! Just brilliant. Already in the process of overwriting this as the actual ending in my head
