Holy shit, the fights with Vergil are set up the exact same as the fights with his Nelo Angelo fights in DMC1. Both have the first one where Dante loses, the second one where it ends in the characters separating, and the last ending with Dante fully victorious.

Yes, I am aware of the audio problems with the intro, which is why I have the annotation at the start to warn people to lower their volume. KZbin won't let me fix audio issues in post, so unfortunately this is the best I can do to fix it. I'm really sorry if it caused some unpleasantness with the audio spike. :/. This is an older video where I forgot to balance the audio on the intro, which was edited together separately and has a different audio levels to everything else. My newer videos have less of these problems since I learned from it, so maybe check those out instead :)

For anyone who wondered why Trish was "Somehow brought back to life" as he states at 17:32, watch 18:01 - 18:05. Dante Cries. And his Tears land on Trish. Why is this important? devilmaycry.wikia.com/wiki/Orbs -> White Orbs are magical white stones consisting of the crystallized tears and spirit of demons.[9][10][11] In each game, they will revitalize some of the player's Devil Trigger as soon as they are picked up, and also count towards their Red Orbs. They can be found by defeating enemies and breaking objects, but are uncommon. And why is this important? Trish, despite being a semi-human creature, is technically a devil created by Mundus. What do you suppose a "crystallized tears and spirit of demons" that refills devil trigger (Devil Power / Magic Power) in dante, will do to an actual full blooded Devil? Heal them. His tears are basically Devil brand Energy Drink. Of course, White Orbs aren't actually IN Devil May Cry 1 I don't believe, so you have to play other games to figure this...foreshadowing I guess technically? out.

When I first played the game since I was 9, I fell in love with the game for the very first time. And I was a huge fan of the series ever since.
@axelprino6 жыл бұрын
I know that at first it looks like the culprit of bad platforming is the lack of a controlable camera but it's a bit more complicated. 3D platformers actually have to pull off all sort of tricks to make the gameplay enjoyable, like dropshadows (that little circular shadow under the character that has nothing to do with the correct shadow casted by them), predictable camera movement, a certain delay or tolerance so the character doesn't start falling immediatelly after leaving a platform but instead "floats" in mid air for some frames, and of course fine tuned collisions focused on a general "feel" rather than accuracy. The reason that many games from other genres feel awkward or frustrating when doing the occasional platforming segment is that the mechanics are made to suit the other needs of the game and can clash pretty badly with trying to land on floating chuncks of floor that are pretty hard to visually position in the z axis. The simplest way to aliviate this is by adding a dropshadow when necessary, keeping the camera steady or moving in a straight line, and making those shroom shaped platforms that give a better sense of depth to the player (giving a dropshadow to the moving platforms also works).
@Kor11346 жыл бұрын
This is still my favorite DMC game. Something about the combat dynamics always compelled me to find the most efficient method to dispatch a certain enemy, like the demons known as Shadows. Though DMC3 had a much more refined combo and style system, I felt that some of the monsters lacked the depth to make a truly engaging combat sequence, ie. Dullahans and Soul Eaters, or chimeras and chimera seeds in DMC4; there is no fun or stylish way to destroy those enemies with a high style rank, they detract from the entire experience for me, unlike DMC1, where every single encounter is a joy to play.

This was a really great video. I finished this game not too long ago and the points you elaborated on were really good in making it clear how Devil May Cry struck such a chord with me. One thing I do think I should bring up is something that felt like a lost opportunity in terms of enemy encounters. I've only completed normal mode so far so it might be different in higher difficulties, but enemy encounters seem to largely consist of multiple amounts of the same enemy, with only advanced versions of that enemy mixed in. Because of this, the game starts becoming easier and slightly monotonous as you're able to apply the same tactics for these encounters. While it does feed into the aspect of getting better at the game and honing your skills, I feel like an interesting way they could have increased the challenge was by having more mixed enemies in each fight. With this it could mean shaking up your strategies in order to account for the multiple different threats, and can lead to stuff like prioritizing which enemies to take out first and moving to more advantageous spots during a fight. This isn't by any means meant to be a criticism of your video, or even something of a major flaw of the game, it was just something that's fresh on my mind after playing it.
@Foxcade7 жыл бұрын
Hmm, that is a pretty good point, and something I noticed a lot in DMC4 recently. Some of the other games in the series do mix up the enemies a bit, but never to a significant degree. In a way this does seem designed though, since a lot of the lesser demons have strategies that work against each other, and work make it more frustrating to fight a mix of them at the same time. Shadows are already enough of a problem without having to worrying about a couple Nobodies or Blades. The Chess battle in DMC3 is a good example of this, because each type of chess piece has a different attack pattern and it can feel a bit chaotic. Fun at times, but chaotic.

Anyway nice video, my firs DMC game is DMC3, I resently got first game in HD collection. Yep, it's outdated but charming as hell. Everything after Dmc1 isn't Dmc anymore. Unfortunately there is only one Devil May Cry. It's a creative project that was never meant to be in first place. It is what it is. It's a gift. Dantes character isn't the same anymore after 1 and the whole world has a very different feeling. Devil May Cry 1 is very unique in many aspects, its not perfect but it gives you that special feeling and dynamic gameplay. It feels like art, like a painting. And the soundtrack is absolutely sick! They should kept that horror atmosphere and it should be more something like dark souls after Dmc1, but sadly they completely destroyed that game and what it meant to be. You can feel a bit Dmc1 inspiration in the Dmc2 soundtrack and the design but they completely failed because of too much confusion and too little dedication. It just wasn't the right time for it and was a big disappointment. Dmc3 was more like a reboot. The developers didn't fully understand what Dmc1 was but they knew why Dmc2 failed and wanted to try something new to keep the franchise alive and it worked. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Dmc3, there are some aspects I like about that game but it was trying to hard to be cool. I guess it's just capitalism. 😂Whoa slow down babe.
@paintsniffer4012 жыл бұрын
I'll give you credit for shitting on capitalism but you're so wrong, every other DMC (except 2) after 1 is better than 1 in almost every aspect, if what made Devil May Cry Devil May Cry for you was mediocre combat, bad camera angles and atmosphere maybe you should go and play Resident Evil

I really find it difficult to play this game. The action is fine, it's not DMC3 but it's still ok. The problem is that there are still hints of Resident Evil in the game which I am not ok with. I don't think exploration is as fun as it should be, movement is slow which makes the moments where you are backtracking a pain and it doesn't have the tension that Resident Evil carried because of how fun the combat is. After Bayonetta in 2009 I find it hard to go back to DMC's level design. I prefer things be kept linear and never have to wonder where I have to go. There's a lot of moments where the game wants you to absorb your surroundings when I just want to fight the next boss. Plus the mission structure doesn't fit well with the paths the game expects you to take. I would have preferred a metoridvania with better movement upgrades.

A bit late to the party, but I feel an urge to share my unpopular opinion. DMC 1 is shit. I agree, it's a great game for its time and an it started a genre, but playing through it now was an incredible pain in the ass. Zero camera control even during important boss fights, when on DMD you can only take 3-4 hits. DTed fetish can take 3/4 hp with one hit and he can do it off screen. A lot of attack animations are to fast to react, assaults attack animations are indistinguishable from their chaotic movements in groups, they share invulnerability during attacks with frosts. More than once they managed to strike between the hits of one combo. It's impossible to change targets at will, often I find myself rolling away from an attacking enemy just because there's no way to break lock-on, when I could have just hit him once to stagger without breaking the flow of combat. Random underwater levels, random flying phase 1 of Mundus with inverted controls (at least D-pad behaves like it should). Overpowered GL that you can easily spam roll cancelling. Dante needs an eternity to adjust his aim to a moving target - I can understand it with GL, but not his pair of pistols, especially when it's required to deal with fast moving shadows. Overpowered (against normal enemies) DT moves that take no time to cast and could be continuously spammed. Ranking is terrible. As I heard, we're penalized for using wrong doors. Game almost doesn't care about style, mostly looking at time. People often criticized it for its clunky platforming, but fighting is a lot worse, since it's a main selling point and it has so many flaws.
