Last month Nikki and I left you with some journalling ideas under the theme "essentials". In this video we are going to share how we were inspired by that theme. Were you inspired and what did you or do you think you'll document next?
We will be having similar conversations every month on the 4th week of the month so be sure to check back in (and if you haven't already subscribed and click the notification bell it would be a good time to do so.

Dad gum you two! I am addicted to these chats between you two. I love how REAL you both are about this hobby and life in general. It’s not all rosie and easy. I am an advocate about documenting the challenges we all go through.

Thanks Cilla. We are glad to hear you are enjoying them. I’m really excited about telling some of these stories if you can’t tell… and it helps I’m going to be using some of the beautiful cardstock I have in my collection. Can’t wait to have you join in. ~Melanie

Nikki I loved your layout! The title words were spectacular! ❤ This was awesome and I had to watch it a couple times! Melanie thank you for sharing your journaling! It was very introspective and captivating! My brain was buzzing as you talked and I think I have 20 ideas! Now to find the time to journal and select a format! Have you shared how to make those portfolios? Things I thought of: My refrigerator changed immensely when I married! I had no condiments, not even ketchup or mustard. Now it is overflowing with condiments and pickles! At least 3-5 varieties of pickles! I was extremely introverted and shy when I went to college. I remember two girls talking to me and being shocked that they liked me! One is still a friend. Oh my then my college choices and why. I have my doctorate in Nutrition in Animal and Dairy Science but a pivot point was my first job was teaching Biology courses! I taught Biology courses for my entire career! So journal how this happened! Then the adventures I had living in Louisiana, Georgia, and Tenesse. Seeing the Atlantic and Pacific ocean for the first time. How I learned to walk again after a spinal cord injury. Things my Mom taught me , like perseverance! I could list a dozen more! Now to get to work on them! 😀❤

Another GREAT video!!! LOVE Nikki's layout!!! Given how much time we spend scrapbooking, I think it is good to create a few layouts about our hobby. LOVE everything about Melanie's folios - the format, the beautiful paper, and the journaling!!! Thank you, Melanie, for sharing your stories!!!

Oh good Nancy! Glad that it’s making some sense. To be honest both Nikki and I had very different ideas of what “essential” meant so I’m glad that it’s coming together. I’m very excited about those folios. I finished the one that wasn’t finished and I’m hoping to get at least one more done shortly. I’ll probably do a full process as some have expressed interest in the folios themselves. ~Melanie

Melanie! You are my kindred spirit!! Thank you for sharing your journaling. I wish I would have leaned into the unknown more when I was in my 20s and maybe I’d be more adventure seeking now.

That would be an interesting journalling topic… did you have the opportunity to be more adventurous and didn’t … why not… or maybe there weren’t opportunities and why do you think that is? And then you can reflect on how you feel that has impacted you today. (Can you tell I’m loving this reflective journalling? I even get excited about other people’s stories). ~Melanie

I recently received a few papers of 49 and Market. It is the first time I seen it. It is very pretty. I think it is the thickest paper I have felt. I want more. 🤣. It will wait until I use up most of my other papers. It gives me a goal to reach. I loved to hear your journaling. I can see those as pivotal times in your life. These videos between you and Nikki are very helpful. They give me ideas for design ideas for journals and it gives me a way to get into a bit of scrapbooking. I like your small booklet idea. You can add things you may have forgotten about or to make one for small events. I have to agree with Nikki and say you are a great story teller. I look forward to hearing more. Hint hint. I am also looking forward to watching the next video. Even though I don’t know what it is about, except for it being about organizing. I live surprises. 😁

Another excellent discussion and inspiration! I love the way you designed you page title, Nikki. So awesome. Melanie, your journaling is outstanding and I love hearing your stories. The idea of reflecting pivotal life moments is so intriguing to me, and seems like it would have emotional therapeutic value. Thanks for sharing your stories, and I love the idea of compartmentalizing them in those booklets. So outside of the box, but a great way to document what is inside your head and heart. I thought about your question and 2 things popped into my mind immediately, one comforting and one painful, the former being my perspective on how my nana who passed away in 2002 influenced, without me (or her) even realizing it at the time, my various hobby interests and my style of grandparenting my own grandchildren. The latter is my bitter divorce in 1997 after a verbally and emotionally abusive marriage of 14 years which still haunts me sometimes, but it was a pivotal moment in my personal growth towards being the strong woman I am today. I am going to add those 2 topics to my list of life stories I need to tell. Thanks again for the inspiration, ladies!

Thanks so much Laura! I’m glad to hear you were inspired. There is something about writing your thoughts and expressing your feelings that is most definitely therapeutic. It also interesting on how the last impacts today. Sometimes to the good and sometimes on the less positive. Identifying the good is healing and reaffirming and seeing the less positive can point a way forward towards healing or personal growth. I am loving the little booklets… in many ways very symbolic of a chapter in one’s life. I’m working in another one and will share me putting the folio together. Maybe in a couple of weeks? ~Melanie
