I remember the first minigame in mario party 2 had literally only 2 outcomes. 1. The first 3 ppl got blown up first push. 2. The last 2 went on forever. Good old n64 days

There is a weird bit of physics at work here-the jumping characters should maintain their linear momentum, but not their _angular_ momentum. In layman's terms, they should keep going straight as the hand turns underneath them. I think EasySpeezy intuited that _something_ was wrong, and badly misidentified the place where it went wrong.

The physics semi work, you don't keep the centripetal momentum, so you would fly off into one direction, like letting go of an old sling shot, or a baseball pitch. But he is also very wrong in that if you jump off a bus you don't just lose all that momentum xD

@@timothymclean it's a bit weird that you do keep the angular momentum in the physics sense of the word. imagine standing at the middle, you'd have to keep turning to be facing someone flinging forward, and you turn slower and slower as they get farther and farther. if you do the math it checks out.

​@@dramforever If you do the math _correctly,_ it doesn't. The thing about angular momentum is that I used that term loosely last comment. Angular momentum _is_ preserved, but that doesn't mean the Mario Bros keep moving in a circle-angular momentum can take many forms, and can be transferred between objects. For an object to move in a circle (or an ellipse, or some other closed curve), there needs to be a centripetal force-that is, a force pulling the object towards the center of the circle. The moon is kept in orbit because Earth's gravity is pulling the Moon towards the center of that orbit. Swing an extension cord around your head, and the cord's tension keeps the plug moving in a circle. But cut the cord, and the plug just keeps moving in a straight line. When the Mario brothers are standing on a giant clock's hand, there is a centripetal force keeping them moving in a circle-friction between their shoes and the clock hand. When they jump, they retain their momentum but lose that centripetal force. They then should continue moving forward, not in a circle. I'm not sure how to explain that more clearly without diagrams.

22:38 The reason your controller does that is that either the spring in your controller is weak or too strong. Most of the time it's worn out, the only way to fix this is to mod your controller, or increase deadzones, or replace your sticks. Replacement might also not fix it.

A good showcase: Mythbusters fired a cannon at 50 mph out of the back of a pickup truck going 50 mph. The cannon ball was stationary, relative to the ground. It was going 50 mph relative to the truck. So when Mario and Yoshi jump, they keep the momentum from the clock. Do note that drag from the air can slow them down, so that's ignored in game.

1:00:45 if you're on a moving "platform" and you jump straight up, you will actually land back on the platform because the platform gives you some speed going forward as you leave it. Same reason why you can be walking, throw a ball straight up, and it will land back in your hand. (Wind can become an issue if it isn't also moving with you like in an enclosed space, and it doesn't apply if the platform is accelerating; it needs to be going a constant speed. Also the Mario platformers actually have the physics wrong.)

funfact: You can time your last look at the very end of look away, and actually manage to look away last frame from where the other player looks, I've done that many times only looking forward and then last second looking a different direction than the main player

For Mario Puzzle party, you literally just want to hold down whatever your fast imput button is. I cant remember if its down or up to instant drop but you just hold that. You dont move it left or right you let the game move it left or right for you. You then just react to the colors you get and flip or not and react to a whomp. Its incredibly fast and consistent because there are not enough colors and variations to cause this strat to fail. This is what you do in the points speedrun and competitive for this game. Its really hard to tell if you are hesitating or trying to react to the block colors because there is no input display but you should never let go of your fast fall. The time advantage you get over other people or computers who are not holding fast fall the entire time is so dramatically insane that its the meta for that mini game.

Actually, because of the law of conservation of momentum, when jumping on tick tock hop you would continue moving, but not necessarily with the hand, but in a straight line with the direction determined by the motion of the hand when you jump. (1:00:20 is when this applies to btw)

The physics in the clock game are right. If you jump you dont lose your momentum. Like you would jump on a bus both have the same relativ speed so you "stay" in the same place on the bus

Tip for volleyball if you go up to the net and jump as they try to spike you can block and as long as you are in the right spot then it will almost always win you the point

Well, about the clock game 1:00:43. Physics are actually semi fine. Just like if you were in a bus, rolling at whatever speed, say 50mph. So long as it remains constant, you could jump in the air and land relatively at the same spot in the bus, because you too are technically moving in the same direction, at the same speed! I said semi fine because in the clock game, the centrifugal force would have you most likely land slightly towards the outside if you were to jump straight up. So yeah, all in all relatively accurate. 1:14:28 That disapointed look on Yoshi's face though.
