I had a black walnut when I lived up river. Terrible smelling in the winter, but I loved that tree!

That must be the smell read/heard about. I think the squirrels eat all of ours before they start to smell, but (for now) there’s only the one tree.

I absolutely loved this video. It was so interesting, and your scenery is so beautiful. Your use of dye is impressive, and I find myself tempted to give it a try lol. I would be so messy if I did it, though. Thanks for sharing all this brilliant knowledge.

Thank you Tova! I say go for it! It’s messy no matter what. I couldn’t be more tickled if I was able to make my own gasoline. I’m eventually going to try with other plants, too.

Thank you. One of the blessings from this process is that I’ve been able to reconnect with my creative side. Stay tuned to see what I do with acorn caps!

My parents use to gather black walnuts in the fall. Mom would put the nut meat in quick breads and givet hem out fot Christmas gifts every year.

I love this! That’s sounds so yummy and even better because it was homemade. My great aunt made black walnut cookies when I was really little. She passed when I was really little and we never had them after that. I’d forgotten all about that until you shared your story Thank you so much for the Remeberberry!

Nope, never had black walnuts before but I have a few now and maybe I'll try one! When using the husks did you crack out the meat first and set it aside?

They’re a little hard to crack open, but the drier most nuts are, the easier they split. I lost the explanation in the part that was sped up (it was too windy to hear anyway), but I put the husks in a nut milk bag and put the nuts in the liner pan then soaked & rinsed them clean. I’m planning on doing another video next year when I make more ink since none of that was usable. Now I use that nut milk bag to store acorns. They’re for the squirrels, but when I pick it up, I’m suddenly a Hobbit, dwarves have cleaned out my pantry and I’m about to embark on a life changing journey… to feed the squirrels in my backyard😂
