It's sooo hard to not spoil anything while commenting!! Two quick points: that was "Taehyung's" dad and his sister; and while the story *is* full of metaphors, what we are seeing are 'actual events' in the storyline. There are seven characters whose stories are all intertwined. It's a tricky thing for reactors to get into the BU bc the music videos/short films, though they do a great job at storytelling, dont tell the whole story. You probably aren't aware but for almost every album since the BU started, a small pamphlet called The Notes was included. The Notes contained sort of diary like entries by each member/character, fleshing out the BU storyline and offering backstory for each character. You get the details that the mvs are missing, and the why's and how's start to make more sense as the mvs were released. They were eventually compiled into two books, The Notes 1 and the The Notes 2, with added entries to flesh things out even more. The basic content from The Notes was eventually used to create the Save Me webtoon, which really solidified the story and answered a lot of questions (while creating more lol) There is actually a very cohesive story being told, about 7 young men who each deal with their own personal demons, some better than others. Each choice that is made has a consequence for better or worse. You did pick up on a few things that may not make sense now but will make you smack your forehead like "OH MY GOD I CANT BELIEVE I GOT THAT" lol I was highly impressed! But fair warning the story is very dark, as you've seen, delving into domestic violence, physical and psychological child abuse, abandonment, extreme poverty, depression, suicide, mental illnesses, PTSD, alchoholism.. These characters have been through a lot, and they go through much worse. Their journey is difficult, but so is life and the journey of growing up and finding ourselves, which is the core story of the BU. (edited to add that the general gist of the song lyrics being about loving someone even though they hurt you, and how you cant seem to escape them bc you need them in your life even though it hurts, ties in so well with the relationships between the characters, as you will discover as you go on)

Just FYI, the next video in the BU is NOT the Run MV, and you will he confused if you don't watch the correct pieces in order, so whenever it is time for you to watch Run, make sure you watch On Stage Prologue first. Also, do not watch the official video for the On Stage Prologue. It doesn't have subtitles, and they are necessary. The official video is also missing an important end credit scene for reasons I cannot disclose without spoilers, lol. So find a version with English captions and wait until after the credits. I'd also encourage you to react to the song Butterfly beforehand as it is the song featured in the Prologue video, but only parts of it.

This was a really cool analysis because I was like...ohhh I wish I'd noticed that. I did go back to the original Korean lyrics though, because translations are funny like that. The lyrics do actually refer to 'present' as a gift, not as in time. Happy English homonym coincidence in relation to the MV & lyrics.
@ebony71773 жыл бұрын
Let me clear up something. When they say it's not them all they mean is the boys are playing versions of themselves. Since the characters share the name with the guys people got confused whether this was hidden stuff in BTS' life or fully made up story. So that's all they were telling you, this isn't about BTS' real life. This is a character RM, a character Jin etc.
@sometimessiri.85593 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that sometimes the lyrics have nothing to do with the MV which is what is going on here. It's also been explained that using the word girl wasn't their first choice but more along the lines of friend but it didn't sound right and hence the change. I don't want to spoil anything but this is the start of where we see some elements that will follow the boys throughout their MVs. There's so much BU content that it was hard to connect the dots and I'm thankful that I found them in 2018 instead of waiting for each new comeback to see if we'd get a new installment to further the story. Big Hit released a web series that does a good job of putting the pieces in order but it's still very messy and complicated. As of now there is no ending and it's open ended as to what comes next. Outside of Fake Love and Epiphany I don't think there has been an official BU content video released. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though! Good luck and bring tissues.

Sorry for the lack of trigger warnings. *hugs* I hope you're okay. 🥺 I am genuinely shocked and hella impressed by just how much you were able to piece together despite having never watched a single BU-related MV. I love the way you break down this MV. This story is extremely complex and multi-layered which include highlight reels, MVs, a webtoon, a NOTES series, concert VCRs, and even a mobile game. I got LITERAL chills when you made a passing comment about how Jin's scene feels "different" but I'll leave it at that. No spoilers from me! Your hunch that "I Need U" was written to themselves rather than a female figure is accurate as the original lyrics were "I need you, friend" but was later tweaked to "I need you, girl" because it sounded better. As I'm sure many fans have told you, the lyrics play a less significant role in the grander scheme of the storyline but that the visual storytelling that the MVs present is what should be your main focus.

The flower is Smeraldo
@UraharaKoi3 жыл бұрын
@@JackInTheBox0294 The "smeraldo" flowers they use in *spoiler* are different, not to mention smeraldo's are a fictional flower. This is an actual Easter Lily. In *spoiler* there is also a prominent Calla Lilly displayed. Easter Lillies represent death/rebirth/resurrection. A Calla Lilly is a well known symbol of death (without rebirth/resurrection) and is often used at funerals. I wonder what could have happened in *spoiler* that the very prominent Calla Lily foreshadowed? 🤔 If they wanted to represent "smeraldo" flowers instead of using a Easter Lilly as a place holder I'm sure they would have constructed a smeraldo flower, like they did in *spoiler* (and which look very, very different from Easter/ Calla Lillies) or modified the Easter Lily through dyes, or some such, to indicate it isn't supposed to be seen as a Easter Lily. As it is, given the symbolism of Easter and Calla Lillies and *a whole lot of spoilers*, I personally believe these two flowers were very much used intentionally and are not supposed to be representative of smeraldos, who have their own time and symbolism (a hidden truth which cannot be revealed - not death, rebirth/resurrection, perma-death) to shine. Would also like to add that the Easter Lilly in particular has its symbolism doubled down on multiple times by being consumed by fire, which in itself can be seen as a symbol of death/rebirth/resurrection. With destruction comes new life. Think of the phoenix as a well known symbol of this symbolism of being consumed by flames and through them being given new life.

Memories of deep regret. Memories of hurting others and being hurt. Memories of being abandoned. Only those with such memories buried in their hearts can become stronger, more passionate and emotionally flexible. And only those can attain happines. So don't forget any of it. The BU is indeed very dark, and talks about very real issues that young people (and everyone) has to deal with, without sugarcoating any of it. It gets worse and better randomly, just like life i guess. At its core, the BU and the HYYH storyline in particular are indeed about youth. Hwa-Yang-Yeon-Hwa is the korean title of The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, also translated as "the time when flowers bloom" if i'm not mistaken. It might be hard, but i think it's a very important story that many people can relate to.

Thank you for bravely sharing your vulnerability and your very keen interpretations of this music video. I'm sure BTS would be proud. 💜 Some context about the concept of this album: The title you saw in the opening scene was the Chinese idiom “Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa.” (You may see Armys refer to this album trilogy and era as “HYYH” for short. In the early days, some people mistranslated this as “In the Mood For Love” which is actually an unrelated English title of a Hong Kong movie with the same Chinese title that has no apparent connection to BTS.) Although the official translation of the title is “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life,” the literal translation of the four Chinese characters is “flower,” “shape,” year,” and “shine.” Together, this phrase could be interpreted as “the flowering years,” “the time when flowers bloom,” or "the years that shine like flowers." This expression is often used to refer to the period of one’s teens through early twenties, during the thrilling and challenging transition from youth to adulthood. It depicts this period as beautiful but fragile, memorable yet fleeting, like a flower. A bittersweet mix of emotions - joy, uncertainty, melancholy, nostalgia, regret, etc. The fact that you were already able to pick up on this indicates that they were able to convey this concept in a way that transcends language. In Korean culture, respect for elders, especially parents, is of the utmost importance. For a long time domestic abuse in Korea has often been viewed as a private matter within a couple or family rather than a crime that requires government interference. This is slowly changing now, but the depiction of violence by a child against a parent has long been considered restricted content. The full original version of this video, which is the version you watched, was rated in Korea as unsuitable for viewers under the age of 19 - a huge portion of BTS’ audience. They had to release a censored version to be broadcast to and accessible by younger audiences. But as you can imagine, this didn’t stop teens from watching and increasing the buzz around this video, and singling BTS out as a unique, risk-taking, and emotionally impactful Kpop group to watch going forward.

Thankyou so much. I know it can be and has been hard for any one of and many of us. We all have our stories which is why we relate so much to BTS and are grateful to them for having the courage to address some of these important issues. From there music, their lyrics, inspirational attitudes and their clever story telling, they have been helping us all along. This is just the start of your journey into the BU. It's is a beautiful and heart breaking story that is complicated and brilliant and will be so much fun for someone who likes puzzles. Don't forget to do each music video in sequence!! I look forward to travelling with you on your journey. Lots of love and support xx, stay strong.and (Fighting!) as BTS would say. Xxxx

This is from the album The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, and it's exactly what you talk about, it's the moment when you lose you innocence, that's the most beautiful moment in life, because that's when you grow to became a full person with the good and bad.

I am sorry some of the parts of this video were so hard for you and I am sorry you ever had to go through something like that. I am sending you all kinds of hugs and just know that you are so loved! You are such a great big hearted guy. You will love the story more as it goes along it is so crazy. Thank you for all you great reactions.

I've seen a bunch of reactors doing the BU (at least 6, I think) and I never saw someone caught so much details in the first watch! You saw some things in the symbolism that are so much correct! But also, there's a plotline so not everything IS symbolic. But also, it's okay not to understand everything right now, the BU can be confusing as hell (I don't even go deep in the BU, I'm just nosy). I'm sure a lot of people will tell this, but don't think too much about the lyrics. And take care not to be triggered! I'm already excited to see what you I'll think about the Wings Short Films, they're my favorites!
@tatu.e3 жыл бұрын
Can’t believe we’re here already! If you’re gonna go deep into the BU you have to know that the lyrics of the songs and the story in the videos is not always talking about the same things. Of course someone that doesn’t know about the existence of the BU can put those two together and still gonna get some sense because in a way they are linked, but for the most parts… the song and the video are two different things (and just for you to know… I need you girl was originally “I need you friend” they changed it because it sounded better, so I really think that they are talking to each other Another thing you need to know is that Jin is a VERY important character in the BU, and you got it right when you said that he doesn’t have like a normal story like the rest of them, because he doesn’t. And the story behind every member is made up. They created a background story for each of them. The thing with Jin when you said that he hasn’t had a story… well actually that is the story, he’s kind of making things happen in certain way. And not only there are six petals in the flower that appears in Jin’s shoulder but also there are six petals in his hands at the beginning of the MV which I think symbolizes his emotions and his link with the members. And I deeply think that in this particular MV the other six members symbolize Jin’s emotion going through something, as you said.. I think it has to do with childhood and growing up. At the beginning you see him burning the petals because he wants to get rid of that emotions that the other six represent but later on you see how the flower with the six petals blooms again in his heart so that emotions are a part of him no matter what. I could keep writing and writing but this would be so long that no one would ever read it. And I’m so sorry that you as a kid had to live such horrible things like that, thank you for shearing. And something off topic and just for you to know.. RM does not call himself Rap Monster anymore, he is so embarrase about it know, he is just RM or Namjoon (his real name) Ps: if somebody actually read all of this.. wow and thank you 💜

This is well written, but I think there are a lot of spoilers throughout here. Almost everything you said about Jin’s character throughout is not something that he’s picked up yet and a lot of it is not apparent at this point.
@anu58803 жыл бұрын
I'm really sry, but I have to say that you gave a lot of spoilers (esp abt Jin) with this comment. He's not supposed to get all these insights from just the first video. I actually think Josh has a pretty good grasp of what is happening considering this is just the first video. If you could edit ur comment to include less information it would be better, I think. No disrespect intended ☺️

@@purvigoswami_ Hi! You should start from the beginning I think.. the first 3 albums "2 Cool for Skool" "O! R U L8 2?" and "Skool Luv Affair" are not part of the BU so I think you can start from there and then you can start listen the rest of the albums following the songs that are part of the BU. It's different for everyone so I hope it helps!

I'm sorry that you had to experience those things in the past and that this was triggering. The dark themes in the BU are domestic violence, murder, suicide by water/fire/overdosing, loneliness, etc. just so you are ready. Prologue: Butterfly is next, and make sure you have the one with the subtitles. I also recommend you listen and watch the lyric video to it as well, it's a beautiful song and is top three to me. I will leave you with this: watch the pairings. Borahae💜

When searching for a comprehensive list make sure it includes the Japanese BU mvs (there's TONS of extra clues & expanded scenes in them you'll want to see), the short films, Highlight Reels, concert VCRs, & I'd also recommend summary & explanation videos (the xCeleste ones are widely accepted as the most accurate & comprehensive among the fandom)

Since you talked about writing song about talking to your inner self... I hope one day you will check out V's solo song from Map of the Soul 7, song name is Inner Child, V talking about his younger self. I find so much comfort in that song, trying to forgive my past, not to blame my past, understand what she went through... I hope you will find some comfort in that song too.

You got a pretty good amount of hints right. Jin ís in another position as the rest. The Save me Webtoon will give a lot more clarity on the backstories of each of the members. I'm myself not even fully understanding the whole thing yet, and probably missing out on things. Besides the MV's, there's so much other content which contributes. Like the notes, the webtoon, the game. It's not happy stories though, be prepared. But so well done. The BU is a rabbithole all by itself. Sorry to hear about your struggles in life, but I think it's beautiful that you're feeling comfortable enough to be so open about it. It helps yourself and others at the same time. I just started following your channel recently because I'm an Army, and your reactionvids (with Lucas), made me laugh and happy. There are many youtubers just reacting to BTS for clout. But you guys seem very sincere. And after this video, there's no doubt. Hope you are oké, greetings from an older Army, from all across the ocean from Amsterdam.

You figured out things in this that I know from hindsight are accurate and I'm honestly genuinely impressed. I'm sorry that no one warned you about how dark and violent the BU can get. Just, FYI, the BU is very dark and stays that way for most of it. You're are absolutely correct that "girl" is not an actual girl. According to RM, it should have been "friend" but "girl" sounded better. BTS has a habit of using a song and MV to tell 2, 3, or even 4 stories. One, a specific story that they mean to tell, like the BU or the Sewol ferry tragedy with "Spring Day". Two, the very personal and real stories of the boys, their own thoughts and feelings that they express with the song, and three, a more general, less defined narrative for people to interpret as they wish, however the song moves them and what the lyrics mean to them. There's also a 4th one for this particular song and video. I've read that the stories of the characters played by the boys represent difficulties or problems that youth face as they grow up. I won't tell you what JK's, RM's, or Jin's represents, because that's a spoiler, but J-Hope is drug addiction, including prescription drug addiction, Suga is suicidal thoughts and feelings, V is domestic violence, and Jimin is depression. You are right about them being at different times in their lives at different points in the video. You are right that Jin is narrating the story. You are right about them growing up and losing their innocence. You are also right about them being miserable alone and happy when they are together. You are at least half right on a few other things but it's difficult to tell you specifically what you are right or wrong about without spoilers. You kind of made it clear that you really would prefer not to have spoilers, so I'm trying not to spoil anything for you. On a more personal note, this video, in particular was difficult for me, too. I didn't have a happy childhood and I lost my innocence before I was even a teenager. My mother had mental health issues and abandoned me for weeks at a time. She was also neglectful when she actually was around. She was murdered when I was 10 years old and I was sent to an abusive household. There was some physical abuse but the mental and emotional abuse were far worse. I was also molested, assaulted and nearly raped in the time before my mother was killed. I'm 50 years old and still have PTSD from when I was young. My issues match more with Jimin's character than V's, though. You figured out more about the BU from this video than any other reactor that I've ever seen and I've watched several people go on this journey. I hope you continue to explore the BU and see just how genius the whole thing really is.

With regards to the hoodies, you can interpret it as representing something with the other members (however you want). But with regards to the men beating up Jungkook, the hoodies were just to hide their identities because their faces aren't really relevant to the storyline. It's their actions in relation to Jungkook is what matters and how he relates to it.

Finally You are hear , you have reached the point. But I can see that maybe no one has mentioned it or it was mentioned for the first time (Don't know) yet the lyrics to this song aren't connected to the BU it's just the MV . Depends how You want to go through this storyline there are two options it to follow the full order of the MV`s short films , clips , Notes and Game as well to grasp full story or there is shorter path is to go through the xCeleste BU summary 2021 update and the one with the explanation to Film Out MV . Depends which you would find more fun to go it's fully your choice and I would go onto the journey with you.
Your mind Is so brilliant, wow, it shows that you know your stuff with symbolism and all. Really loved watching it in action. I'm also so happy you are in a happier place now.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. My childhood, too, was ruled by domestic violence. Every day would depend on what mood my stepdad was in and even then, that mood could change with a click of a finger. And you're right, it never goes away, no matter how old you get, you just figure out ways to deal with it. But still, the loss of innocence and the loss of childhood is the thing that sticks with you the most and just makes you more determined to make sure your own children never have to go through the same things you did. This video hit me hard the first time I watched it as well, but it sadly is a reality many children and young people go through. Really enjoyed your break down, I won't spoil anything but all I will say is you're very intuitive and I think you're really going to enjoy the whole BU.
