I've had a Defy for a few months (bag's out in the van so can't say if it's Fission or Neutron.. Goldilocks.. not too hard, not too soft). I throw about 300-330max (basically 300 on a good day.. (An NZ Rugby/Soccer field is 100m (330ft) so easy to know my range.. touch to touch). My Defy is a nice stable to over stable... It's my go-to in stronger winds as I know it will turn only a little but come back. I also have a couple of Rives and I find the Defy travels a bit straighter before fading out where the Rives tend to start gently turning earlier. I love the shape for my poor forehand... It fits well at the top of my Forehand Over Stable Trio, Resistor, Tesla then Defy (from short to long range). Unless I do something very wrong, I can Anhyzer the Defy and know it will at least pull flat before hitting the ground if low.. and will Beef back well if high. For spike Hyzers I haven't played with it too much as my go-to disc there is a Z Scorch as it flies a very pure arc where MVP over-molds tend to hold a straighter line across the 1st half of their flight (due to outer rim weight most likely). I also find the over-mold plastic does tend to stand up to beatings quite well (Except my osmic Soft Proxy for obvious reasons). I also throw a Catalyst (oversize for my grip) and picked up a new habit that works a treat for the Defy, concentrating my power grip force to the little fingers which reduced my early releases.

@TheButlerNZ Wow, glad to know it works well for you! I'm glad it's a good disc for your distance and works for the forehand. Interesting comparison to the Rive too!

@@bhirdietime I did forget to mention I only get 300ft with the Defy because my "Style" doesn't get enough energy/spin to keep it running... but on an Anhyzer throw in calm I know it's still coming back in a fade landing.

incredible review sir. first time coming across your channel and love the way you've structured your review and your high disc golf IQ. I would also love to see you review a lighter weight defy some day for comparison. I've got a 159g neutron defy in the mail and can't wait to try it. I love the vanish and hoping this will compliment that. I didn't even know the dimensions were identical to vanish. keep up the good work, looking forward to watching more of your videos.

@SeanMcDonnell33 Thank you! I'll definitely keep a lighter weight review in mind. Let me know how it flies and if it compliments the vanish! My experience of the Vanish was that it was extremely flippy, so I definitely found it interesting that they have the same dimensions.

@bhirdietime reporting back here very happy with my new defy today was first day throwing it and it's going to fill the slot I needed perfectly. my max distance throw is around 350' for reference, and this defy does not appear to be as stable as the one you reviewed, although it definitely finishes stable. regarding vanish, just gotta find the right amount of hyzer. I used to throw the wave and while the vanish flips up easier in early flight, I feel the vanish is actually more predictable and reliable to come fading back at end of flight vs. the wave (might be a cool video to compare those two discs if you can get them in equal weights same plastic). cheers!

@SeanMcDonnell33 I'm glad the Defy is working great for you! Consistent and reliable goes a long way. I might have to compare the Wave and Vanish, but definitely need the same plastic! This month I threw an eclipse Wave that was stable and barely turned, and a lightweight R2 Vanish and there was no "reliable" lol, it was out of control!

Would you say that it's comparible to a destroyer? Not super beef calvin halo* :) Im about 50% into the vid.

Definitely similar to a Destroyer, depending on the plastic as you say! Nothing quite compares to the Calvin Halo though 🤣

Who cares how far you throw? I play with people who physically cannot throw more than about 200 feet and yet they beat most people based on their accurate upshots and putting. Sure, it's a par 3- only course with only 3 baskets longer than 300ft, but still, distance is not needed for the vast majority of amateurs. I throw a Specter as a utility disk. 50-100 foot scrambles around trees, etc. It's a driver and yet I use it for it's slow speed reliability. Who cares? I really want to try the Fission defy to see if it can replace my (no longer stable) Wraith... or another slot.

How far you throw affects how a disc flies, which I think is relevant for anyone watching a disc review and wondering how the disc might fly for them...but yes, distance is only one portion of a complete discgolf game. However if you want birdies, then every foot of distance (with some accuracy) increases the chances that you'll end up with a putt.
