I just picked up an XL-600 . If you just key up the relay's aren't being excited but if you trigger them manually it will out put 700 to 800 and will tune properly .

they way i did it was look closely on the left side(looking at the front of the amp) of the relay where the black wire is soldered to the tab on the coil. This is how the relay get activated by grounding this side. I unsoldered that wire hooked it to one of my foot pedal wires and the other to the tab where it was supposed to go.@@sambou812

Saturday morning cartoons were wiped out at times in the 1970s by dirty amps. Both picture and sound. Had one of these I ran a HR2510 with. Good but dirty.

Yes, but also like i mentioned, electronics back then were a lot more vulnerable to interference

@@Rooster_Radio True. I never had any problem that I knew of when I used mine. The clean signal of the uniden HR2510 also helped I am sure.

Any amp can be made dirty just by over-driving it. Abe Brewer out of Porter, OK produced the Varmint range of tube & solid-state amps all of which were designed to be driven by 4W AM & 12W pep on SSB. Also the fact that many people do not understand the correct procedure for tuning a tube amp. I knew Abe and worked for the United Kingdom importer of his units.

There was a larger version of this amp. I think xl-500 maybe? On the faceplate there was a Wolf . It had a "Super-Mod" switch. It was one of the loudest things I ever heard.

XL1000 as well. I believe ive heard rumor of a rare XL2000, but 1000 is the largest ive seen.
