As a private pilot, I just can’t fathom why the pilots of Jeju Air 2216 didn’t use the manual gear release, go around, or divert to ICN to utilize its longer runways, why continue to land on a short runway, half of which you used up trying to gently touch down, which also has a wall at the end. I cried when I watched the video.

i feel like this year was crazy for aviation (especially with all of these incidents in the past week) however around the 21:30 mark i will agree there have been worse years for aviation (some examples: in the 1960s aa lost 3 707s in 3 years in new york, 1979 saw the crash that grounded dc-10s in the us, the 1930s and 1940s were extremely bad in terms of flying) however it’s relieving how in the past 50 years flyings gotten multiple times safer

if you look up “worst year in aviation” on google you get a wikipedia article claiming 1985 was the worst year in 40 years flyings gotten much safer (although high profile incidents have happened, flying will only continue to get safer because weve learned a lot from previous incidents)
