This was by far the hardest single concept to wrap my brain around when I first started, and I actually had to learn it for planted tanks years before I started reefing: How much do I actually dose? Are you sure I just can't put in the same amount each time? Why do I need to keep testing to know how much? Learning how to walk-in a dosage after testing and tracking consumption rates was something that had to be explained to me a half-dozen times before it really clicked. And now it's second nature, thankfully. I also had the benefit of taking fertilization and nutrient management in college, which cemented the concepts aquariums had taught me. That's where I really started to understand tracking micronutrients and trace elements, or paying attention to each element independently. And, it very much built upon the same guidance and concepts we use for both reef's and planted tanks. I was very pleasantly surprised when I found coral dosing was conceptually the same as plant fertilization and aquatic plant dosing. Though, element concentrations and importance do certainly change considerably between genera and environment. Also, Keep poking us occasionally about coral magazine. I know I'm guilty. Every time you mention it, I think "I really need that" and then I forget and wind up buying something else for my tank that month. And it won't be this month either, my wife just let me buy a new skimmer. But, once I'm allowed to buy things on my maxed-out aquarium budget, I'd like to remember to subscribe :) Budget reefing keeps my wife happy, but remembering to buy things is the key!

Bicarb is not going to drop your ph although it doesn't have the ph boost that carbonate has. Would be a great stream to have Chris Wood on to talk about all this dosing stuff as he is the expert
