Thank you for your concern I would be lying if I said I did not have a bummed week. I got into a funk and now I'm getting back out of it. I did however have a ton of stuff on my plate the last two weeks. All good things though. As you will see one of them tonight when I upload my video. But between doing yard work and finishing my peer support intec groups that the association for the blind plus doing a charity event and getting ready for another one I have had a lot on my plate. I am back uploading today back on schedule for the rest of the week the week I had. Again thanks for your concern and I have been watching your videos I have not missed a single one. Also, I'm glad you liked the board game video. I decided that I am going to start reviewing certain board games that work for the visually impaired and blind. I've collected board games for many years so it's kind of a hobby of mine so would be really easy for me to talk about. So be waiting for those videos. My next board game videos going to be on Monopoly.

Blind Grilling Braille cards are the first thing I got to practice with while I was waiting on Braille class materials. I also ordered the wooden Braille blocks from one of the catalogs. My friends loved the blocks as well, for the printed aesthetic as well as they began to play with my slates and styluses and write me notes trying to make them hard for me to guess in context, so I could trust my fingers, instead of guessing ahead. Hee!

@@splashesin8 that's awesome you know what I saw yesterday which I thought it was cool. Was a braille fidget block. It's just a block with the alphabet all around it so that you can learn the alphabet while fidgeting around or bored. It was like $5 so I think I'm going to buy it. I saw it on Maxi AIDS website. I also saw Uno Braille version for $14. I'm glad to see a lot of people are liking the board game video. It's obviously a topic that is big for all of us visually impaired and blind people. I'm going to make more videos on this topic most definitely so happy to see you guys conversing on this matter.

Having family and friends that help is so awesome and so necessary. My husband has helped me with uno. We always call out the cards as we lay them down. However i can't read some of the newer decks' yellow cards as they are white on yellow with no outline. So what he did was write the numbers in the corner of those cards so i could play easier. I know they make low vision and i think even braille versions if some cards. Maybe you could write in the number and a letter for the color on the cards so you could play if you want. I love card and board games! My favorite board game is monopoly. I am like you with clue and have multiple versions lol. Fun video thanks for sharing!

We used to have game nights all the time at my apartment, prior to me being blind, and we tried to adapt whatever we could afterwards. I made a lot of new boards for some of our usual games early into being blind. I had no computers as a sightling. Basically learned most computer using stuff starting maybe being three years into being blind. I love old school board games, and cards. I made a tactile scrabble board for a fraction of the cost of a ready made Braille Scrabble set. It's sort of arty! Hangs on the wall. Same with a giant tactile chess board I made. I wanted something I could also float in the pool, so carved out of styrofoam and velcro on the three dimensional squares. I need to make new pieces that are a bit sturdier, without pulling apart leaving the velcro sticking behind them. I liked the lightness of it and being able to leave the game in progress where it left off, hanging vertically on the wall. I think I would really like this game you're talking about playing here.
@myvisuallyimpairedlife56745 жыл бұрын
That is awesome you are like me we both think outside the box. Only way to live positive. You would definitely love this game. This has to be my most favorite board game of all board games. Second to that is clue. But this game has sentimental value to me as it is something I own since childhood and played with my best friend who still to this day comes over to play it. Started playing it when I was around eight years old and 37 years old now and play it still. Thank you for this awesome comment I think it's great that you are so creative. I need to learn how to be more creative as I've always been my entire life but can admit I have not been half as creative since my visual impairment. All I'm trying to say is I need to give myself more projects and challenges. Thank you for the inspiration.
@splashesin85 жыл бұрын
You are probably doing double the challenges during this time right now, figuring out new ways you're going to get things done, to the par that you liked to do them before, but also getting kids and spouse type things done as you go along simultaneously! Hee! I had the advantage of getting to practice a lot of stuff, before everyone else could watch or hurry me along. I could relate remembering trying to come up with ways of talking to old friends crossing paths with me out and about, especially when I was immersed in learning to cane. For sure my friend's little kids and my nephew all helped me cut myself some slack with feeling like I was in a fishbowl with that, and a peanut gallery from all the balconies. Omigoodness! I was 33.

Live Accessible I'm excited for y'all learning Braille. It helps with so many things, whether you use it a little or a lot! I started learning it somewhere between 34 & 35. It took forever to get access to the primers, but finally Commission for the Blind got a little class going for myself and a couple of other people. I wanted to move through it as soon as I could because I wanted to learn music code. I'm still working on music code. There's so much of it! I just refresh myself on it and try to add something new in as I go. It's a little tricky because it's not super intuitive with the literary code, but that's okay. I use literary code in my own way to make music cheat sheets that make sense to me, as well as try to absorb the trickier parts for when I just have to take more thorough notes. It was nice to have literary code right away. I was so happy to be able to make a phone rolodex! So much easier than my old method of fast forwarding and rewinding cassettes! Yep. I didn't have Braille the first couple years. I didn't think I could do it, but at some point feeling the Mcdonald's lid I thought, "You know what! I'm ready!"
@myvisuallyimpairedlife56745 жыл бұрын
@@splashesin8 this is so awesome to hear. I will admit my big fear and learning Braille is the fact that I am 37 years old. I wasn't so sure I was going to grasp it as well as if I was a young kid. I can't even remember what I did yesterday. LOL I'm getting old hahaha. However, this comment gives me hope and more confidence and learning how to read Braille. As much as I'd like electronic devices being able to read pages for me the fact of the matter is that it is just not the same as tactile or visual. I need that back in my life. For example, I love doing Bible study at my church and I love to learn the educated but I have a hard time remembering everything I hear. But when I used to read I would remember at all. I am a visual type of person but now that I am visually impaired it is 360 my entire perspective on life. If I see people I remember them by their face more than their voice so now it's almost impossible for me to remember names and who people are. Kind of the same thing when it comes to reading for me. Thank you for the awesome comment. You gave me hope
@splashesin85 жыл бұрын
I just realized my wording may have made it seem like I said literary code wasn't intuitive. I found literary code is, kind of intuitive. It is the music code that is a little less intuitive because of the way it has to be able to use part of the grid for holding note count values, thus cannot simply use A through G the same way as it is in regular reading as in the literary code. It's kind of like having to flip the switch in your head for using music code differently though it resembles your regular reading code. A little cryptogram sort of thing happens with your literary code when you switch your brain to music code. In the interest of speed I just found my own way of using literary code for some of my note by note music cramming sessions during the week, since it was easier for me to just record the phrase by phrase for timing on the hand held cassette. I just had fifteen or twenty new songs to try and mostly memorize every week at that time in my life. I hand slated all the words phrase by phrase for some of it (like church choir). Man my hands & forearms were sore from caning and Braille. Hee! Three different music venues was a bit like cross training but it kept me moving through everything. I still get a braille magazine though, where every couple of months I get a magazine with braille sheet music for five songs in it. It is very basic sheet music, with guitar chords and piano and lyrics plus note values. I practice my reading music code with those. Practice my literary reading with Science Magazine, and Rolling Stone. The Science layout makes me really have to trust my fingers. Rolling Stone is more leisurely of a read. I never used to read much fiction until I was blind. Read my first Stephen King book after I was blind. It got me really appreciating fiction, in general, and his actual writing as opposed to what movies have done to it. I will quit clogging things up for a little while! Hee! I just am so glad there's Braille.

Drag your videos out as long as you need to! :) One of the first things all visually impaired people come to terms with is that it takes us ten times longer to do anything that involves sight than it used to. I always figure if a vid is a little slow, the viewers will be used to cranking up the playback speed to 1.5 or 2 times anyways.

Those little figures sell for crazy money individually. It's insane how much that board game got in value over the years. I remember going to Toys R Us with my mom in the early 90s and buying it brand new. I have other board games that are old and worth a lot. I don't know if you remember the board game called nightmare, or atmosphere. They were video board games with the GateKeeper that you played in the dark. I have a couple right now that I can think of on top of my head. But one is Monopoly ultimate banking. The cool thing is there is no cash or colors to try to read. It's all through credit card and a credit card reader. My kids and my wife just have to hit the appropriate button for my action. Then I just swipe my card through the credit card machine, action done. The best part is the credit card machine does all the math for you so that your number is stored in the computer and you know exactly who won or went bankrupt. Very simple and a lot of fun. Look into that board game it's usually $15 at Walmart. Thanks for the comments always good to hear from you.

@@SassyWyattBlind well I will give you a sneak peek on what I think so far. I am grateful I did not have to pay for it. But I also think it is worth something. This device so far definitely makes a difference. But what I want to pay $4,500 for it maybe not. But I can tell you this it is a great invention. And with more tweaks and further advancements it can be something special. Personally, I feel that this device should be something given to all individuals that are declared legally blind. For free. If you think of the cost that countries and states invest in the visually impaired and blind or disabled in general it comes out to a lot of money. Believe it or not the price tag for this little device is far less than most devices out there. This should just be something they give to all visually impaired and blind people cuz it would help them right out the gate. Especially when it comes to work and just living more independent and with less depression and anxiety. All this will be in my upcoming video on the orcam. Thank you so much this comment. If I had found the dice and I am ordering them. I can't believe I did not even think of looking on Maxi AIDS as that is where I buy my white cane and identification canes. I love playing card games however the ones I like to play I have a lot of writing you have to read. Like epic spell Wars and zombies. I'm getting orcam this week so hopefully that allows me to play those kinds of card games once again. Cannot wait to find out.

HEY VINCENT. I AM GLAD THAT I COULD HELP WITH THE DICE. AS SOON AS YOU SAID YOU WERE HAVING TROUBLE FINDING DICE, MAXI AIDS POPED IN MY HEAD. I REALLY HOPE THE ORICAM IS A BLESSING FOR YOU AND IT HELPS. WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST AND CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR YOUR EXPERIENCE USING THE ORICAM.
