I honestly loved this last season and you pretty much said anything that needed to be said about the show, but one of the things that I really love about this it is that (and it may just be me) but it's sort of a family show, because it appeals to the older audience with the continuation of a story that most likely marked their childhood, and to the younger audience with the all teenage drama. Everytime a season comes out, my family and I gather to bingewatch it, I kid you not, it's an event, my grandparents are there, my uncle, everyone, and it's so much fun to discuss, loudly react, eat chips, etc. I'm oversharing, but anyway, that's my favorite part of the show, the fact that it can serve as a glue between different ages.

But even though the series has its issues it’s has created something special between me and my dad like we literally do the same thing we get all exited we binge watch it and then we look at Instagram edits together 😭😭😭😂.

The family scene you're describing shows what makes a good reboot or remake, because this show succeeded where others failed. When it comes to reboots, fans of the original may come from the nostalgia but they only stay for good storytelling, and balancing that with appealing to the sensibilities of a new young audience is tough.

I just really really love how they gave TORI so much development in season 4. She was like one of the most hated characters in the series but then now we got more of her wide of the life and in great 😊. Edit: Absolutely agree that we all stan Amanda. She was definitely the best adult in season 4.

If anything I hated Sam not Tori. I was always a Tori supporter. Honestly if Sam and her friends weren’t messing around and didn’t hit Johnny’s car none of this would have happened. Also Sam can’t do anything like you got Miguel/wanted Robby, then you get Robby/wanted Miguel. Like she don’t deserve either of them and yet they’re still wrapped around her little finger.

The thing is, we obviously get ridiculously emotionally invested into this show even as there's no ignoring how over-the-top it is. Interpersonal conflict is grounded in reality and pretty relatable on its face...while establishing stakes for MARTIAL ARTS BATTLES. So I love that the show unironically and shamelessly embraces to the same kind of hyped up drama that is the core of the movie's premise rather than lowkey cringing at it. That's where most reboots or remakes fail I think.

I don't agree with your statement that Tori and Sam are only fighting because of boys. I think it's much more complex than that: To Tori, Sam is the embodiment of prividelge, she's had everything handed to her on a silver platter for her entire life, including (but not limitted to) Miguel's love... Meanwhile Tori had to struggle and litteraly fight for every scrap she got. There is a reason why their first interraction is Sam unfarely accusing Tori of stealing wallets at the country club -- and Tori being innocent but incapable of proving it. The anger and resentment Tori feels for Sam is real, and it's not because of stupid boys, it's because she feels Sam doesn't deserve all the things she has. Of course, as a teenerger, Tori isn't capable of recognizing that Sam is only the product of a systemic problem, she just sees Sam and kind of makes her the embodiment for all her issues with social class inequalities. I agree with you about Sam though, she's not very well written. Her main default I think is that she is too undecisive (she has very few agency over her own life or even in her love life: she tends to go with the flow), and unfortunately that is not very appealing for a character. I wished we would finally have a story arc where she learns to break free from all the people controlling her and it was kind of hinted at, with her learning Eagle Fang, but not nearly enough to my taste! And again, with Miguel leaving at the end: yet another decision made for her instead of a real heart-to-heart discussion about their relationship and how it works/doesn't work where she could have expressed herself.

Finally someone said it!!!! As much as I still generally enjoyed this show, it also annoyed the hell out of me. I agree with everything you said you articulated it better than me. In seasons 1-3, like 90 per cent of the conflict is fueled by a miscommunication. Like, there are other ways to bring about plot development. I can excuse the stupidity of the teenagers but the grown ups??? By season 4 the Danny and Johnny feud was just old like guys... grow up. I love that sometimes they try to give the characters some development but generally, the show is still horribly written. It makes up for it with great action sequences though. After season 4 Tori is my favourite character.

I hope none of the diehard Karate Kid fans see this reaction. Lol. This show, I think, was made for the generation (my generation) that grew up on Karate Kid and they added in the high schoolers to make it relevant to the younger generations. We get so hype when the “geriatrics” show up. The show also makes fun of itself and how ridiculous it is. And I think that’s what makes this show so enjoyable - it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Amanda is our consciousness (at least during seasons 1-3). The writing is also just so good as well as the fight choreography. So yeah, I agree this show is so insane and many characters (mostly Sam LaRusso) are super annoying but you just can’t stop watching it. Glad you gave it a shot and hope you return for S5!

The thing about Miguel and johnnys relationship is kind of weird because Miguel got so attached to Johnny and I feel like he is constantly trying to choose between Robby and Miguel like I get it you weren’t a good father to Robby but you can try to be better for them both you can love them the same the emotional scene will get me every time but I really feel like Miguel is going to get disappointed when or if he meets his father the way it was set up Robby is one of the best characters he did things that he regrets and he does the mature thing and talks to his father apologizes and Kenny don’t get me started…lots of anger now Sam just sucks and I hope in seasons 5 there are moments with Miguel, Robby, and Johnny showing that at least there could be something resolved there

The continual cycles of toxic masculinity perpetuated throughout the generations is so hard to sit through, but I can’t stop watching. I do love it when the adults get glimpses of their past behaviors and try to stop them like Kreese stopping Silver from making Tori fight dirty, but how all Tori’s growth (despite Amanda’s rich people guilt) throughout this season might face a blockage because she saw Silver bribe the judge at the end. I felt for that girl so much.

I know you may not like Sam, but at least have some sympathy for her. She had a panic attack at that arcade fight. No one can plan a panic attack. She said she knew something was wrong but she thought she could handle it. Also, I don't think it would be easy for anyone, especially a teenage girl to go easy on someone who attacked you in school with the intent to badly hurt you then again attack you in your own home with a gang with, once again, the intent to badly hurt you again. I know they gave Tory an incredible redemption story, but, these actions are too horrible for one to forgive the other so easily. It's the same thing with Hawk. His redemption was too forced. Yes, I would recommend watching Karate Kid parts 1-3, not part 4. Part 4 has nothing to do with the lead character Daniel Larusso. It takes on a new lead character but keeps the co lead character, Mr. Miyagi which was Daniel's teacher and mentor in the first 3 movies. This show infuriates me so much. The amount of emotional weight they put into high school karate I swear Danny thinks he’s a fucking karate superhero of justice. But if their is one thing to learn from watching this show is that Sam is THE PROBLEM she is THE DRAMA. But hey I’m still going to watch season 5 so 👉🏼👈🏼

Fun fact in real life Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) is one year older than Terry Silver. For me it's a good show because it blends the old while setting up the new. In season 1 everyone hated Robby but I kept saying I think he's actually a lot better than people give him credit for. And season 4 comes and he becomes great. Also the actor clearly went to acting school because between season 1 and now he has a lot more range. I will say I think the push for feminism kinda hurt this season because I hated the separate boys and girls division. It kinda ruined the boys match because you knew who was oging to win this season because they had to have another fight. Overall love the show. I also have a few complaints.

all the characters have done something to make me dislike them, but i seriously have not hated anyone like i hate the larusso’s. they’re always instigating fights, bringing up mr miyagi and being the most irritating people. i like mr miyagi, but i cannot hear that name without rolling eyes anymore. daniel, sam and anthony are so unlikable that it’s painful. i didn’t care for amanda in the beginning of season one because she was rude towards aisha, but she was okay season 2-4. this show sucks so bad but i will be seated for every new season that comes out.

For some reason after season 3 I couldn’t stand Tori I don’t know why but I just can’t, but Sam was doing too much in season 4. When she was supposed to be peaceful and forgiving she wants to choose violence at the wrong time.
