I actually think that was a nice touch because she joins the 'black' table as if it's that easy to find a place to belong, but it would have been reductive to the black characters, reducing them to their skin color as if that's their entire identity. Showing they have interests different from her own, including different plans for their futures, really shows how small and limiting Ginny's desperation to fit in in high school is. She doesn't actually have a clue of what her interests are or what she wants to do in the future, but she resents her mom for not pushing her to take extracurriculors because that just what all her friends have been doing. It's about fitting in, not about having her own life.

The fact that she was basically gossiping about it with her friends weirded me out so much. Throughout the season, she was constantly uncovering her mother's secrets and acting on the knowledge without actually taking to time to learn WHY her mother was keeping those secrets. Her mother never mails Austin's letters to his FELON father, has a jacket from a biker gang and owns multiple guns, and all Ginny does is complain that these secrets affect her, gossiping about it with friends without really bothering to look for what the secrets are or why they're secret in the first place.

I agree. Why can't that just be his flaw? Every teenage character on this show is annoying. But Hunter being Hunter is not nearly as bad as Ginny being annoying, Max being self absorbed and dramatic, Abby being mean and Norah being fake. And Marcus being a twilight wannabe. Hunter and Bracia were the best two.

To be honest i liked that the characters looked so young. Most of the times those "teenagers" look super ripped and like they are in their 20s but they didn't. I don't mind that the actors are older (i find 21-24 good enough to not be weird in intimate scenes yk...) as long as they look like the age of their character. And they all pass

I think she's so knowledgeable with literature because it's something that she can hold onto. It's facts, it stays the same, it's there to learn. It's something to focus on. The teen characters were either selfish, cringey, toxic, trying too hard to be deep but ending up as just being ridiculously mean. I actually thought Ginny was alright at first but with every episode I hated her more and more. She just seemed really selfish and it felt like she kept playing the victim card at everyone. Like she could just for once listen to someone and try to understand them instead of being like “oooh but my life is worse than yours you have no idea what I’VE been through”. I felt like whenever she was crying the show wanted to make think “oh poor her everyone’s so mean to her and they just don’t understand her” but I was actually thinking “wow okay so I guess it’s you who is getting treated bad?”. If you were a teenager, you should know that there were teens who were like Ginny. I’ve seen people like Ginny in real life- hell,I’ve even seen some parts of myself in her when I was an angry teenager. Ginny is a half- black girl who is making white folks and some poc characters confront their own biases about ginnys character. In addition, some people don’t like Ginny because Ginny reminds them of who they used to be- they’re projecting. Or, she’s the main character and some people will pick her flaws more.

I saw how Ginny doesnt really like black ppl (besides from her dad) and when she was with Bracia and her friends, she was like so awkward and like "what are these ppl talking about ummmmmm" and she just wanted her white friends
@jojoc82293 жыл бұрын
Yeah I didn't like that scene where she only decided to reach out to a black group of friends (who were being very friendly) because her white friends dumped her. I think the black group of friends are all seniors so they are talking about like senior stuff so of course she wasn't able to talk to them and connect with them but they still tried their best to make her feel welcomed. And the thing is she didn't EVEN TRY. Is the thing that she said about being too white for the black community and too black for the white community which is valid but like girl you are ALWAYS going to be too black for the white community because you're experiences literally differ from them. And she had to learn that the hard way when they jacked up her hair and threw her under the bus with the shoplifting. And even after all that she still ignored Bracia and stayed with her horrible friends. 🤦🏽♀️
@kilimanjaro55373 жыл бұрын
@@jojoc8229 “You are always going to be too black for the white community, your experience literally differs.” Thank you 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. It’s the same way in the black community, you will always be too white because your experience is literally different. Finally someone who gets it. You will never share the exact same experience as a white person or a black person and that’s ok. Your experience is individual to yourself.

i feel like neither ginny or georgia had character development. both of them have the same flaw of wanting to get things their own way, so they dont really care or listen to other people's opinion or feelings or whatever. they didnt really understand each other in any of the episodes and both are focused on getting the life they want. an example is when zion visits them and things dont work out, then ginny gets angry cause she "loses" her dad again and doesnt really care about her mom's feelings or what really happened between them. on the other side, georgia gets upset with the situation and doesnt really care about her daughter's feelings ou explaining what happened to her. they both need a reality check to develop their characters, ginny by knowing the truth about her mom and georgia by losing control of the situation.

I’ve always said that shows will portray high schoolers with adult problems and I just want to see a normal show about what high school is really like. The stuff they portray in the shows is true but other times or for some people, it’s not.
@saf85143 жыл бұрын
ok tbh not sure what u mean by this. I mean the identity theft from Georgia and everything isn’t realistic at all, but things like ED, SH and stuff like that is real. so it’s good to be portraying those issues as long as it’s done well and accurately (although in Ginny and Georgia it’s very bad)
@lemonscenic62073 жыл бұрын
@@saf8514 I’m not talking about that! of course those things are extremely important i’m talking about kids and drugs also going through really heavy relationships. I wasn’t saying this about ginny and georgia but high school shows as a whole. Ok, here's the truth. Nobody is going to spend millions of dollars to create a show about 'normal' high school life. That's boring. No one will watch it and the show will be cancelled within a year. Showing the crazy stuff is what keeps viewers coming back.

The one thing I somehow liked about it when it talked about their sexuality is not everyone was in a rush to lose their virginity, neither did they make it seem like someone was a loser for still being a virgin. It was more of when they were ready and comfortable enough to do it.

As Georgia character growth, what I saw (as a person dealing with my traumas) is that she finally found the security piece missing in her life. Finally her kids wouldn't move anymore. Finally she found a person that wouldn't take advantage of her. Finally she can breathe. Finally she can settle down. Finally she won't have to deploy so much energy to survive. I was feeling so happy for her but then you see generational trauma passed to the next where they do only what they know what to do. I was heart broken for her. I was also rooting for Joe too, he's just so sweet 😭I have hope for him in season 2 💖

joe, marcus, and georgia are the reason i watch. i like how the writers made the teens actually act like young teens in the sense that you’re watching ginny and thinking ‘that’s an immature move’ like yeah she’s just 15, not a 25 yr old. but at the same time they took that so far as to make hunter a literal 8 yr old who is completely out of touch with just everything culturally. and then ginny actually loving hunter back makes her character look a lot younger and more shallow? i felt like costumes could’ve been a lot better too. they need actual teens or something. like someone who knows what kids are actually into to consult w about costumes and scripting. ginnys unlikeable in my opinion because she’s not only mad w people for legitimate things(murder), but petty stuff that makes her look a lot less mature/smart than she seems at the beginning of the show.
