Let's Talk About Hazing & Leaving for Boot Camp

those five guys sound like they not only are undisciplined, but they don't understand what comradery is. you don't welcome a new guy who proved his salt by graduating boot camp by giving him a beating. makes no sense. hazing in my unit consisted of heavy drinking and drunken push up contests, innocent jokes like go ask the supply sergeant for batteries for the chem lights, and just busting chops. we always tried to break the new guy out of his shell and laugh, so he would see us as his brothers, and then our mutual respect can begin to materialize. the idea of violently attacking a new guy?- alien to us. this was infantry, 327th, 101st.

Great advice on hazing. When I made Lance, everyone was talking about pinning me. I let it known that anything I felt as more than a tap would be met by an ass kicking. Everything was cool. When I made Corporal the talk was about giving me my blood stripes. I let the same thing be known. I got a crack in the thigh and my Gunny got a broken nose. He was not the one to crack me, he was just handy. The next day the guy that did the cracking had a broken nose too, not by me.

Azog The Defiler my mother sent me a chocolate chip cookie care package with those Styrofoam packing peanuts in it. during mail call in basic at Benning, my senior drill sergeant told me to remove the contents from the cardboard box, but without getting any of the Styrofoam peanuts on the floor. told me that I would owe him 10 pushups(4counts) for everyone that dropped on the floor. needless to say, I wound up knocking out quite a few pushups for the rest of mail call. the icing on the cake was when he told me that cookies aren't allowed, so they'll be secured in his office until Christmas exodus.

Even in infantry I’ve heard hazing is not looked upon lightly anymore. This was in 2017 btw. I can only imagine now in 2020 things are more stricter. Of course it still happens but it’s improved.
