I wanna talk about the fact that the Damelio sisters have been left out of this narrative. They have been spotted at these parties and I feel like we all just collectively looked away Bc they’re so likable. Charli being the biggest influencer on Tik tok (and arguably with the younger demographics) we should be holding her to a higher standard as well. I give it a pass because I assume she’s only 15 and this is a new world she’s stepped into, but it should be talked about.
@minkg81784 жыл бұрын
What worries me about the sisters is that at least one of them, if not both, are underage, so their parents had to sign off on them going to parties during a pandemic, plus those parties are with older kids and at the very least alcohol will be around and probably more than that. What are their parents thinking?

I think it’s because we’re more mad at the parents who have the right to keep them from attending these parties. Nikita, for example, is an adult. Charli and Dixi have parents who should be forcing them to stay home because they are young enough for that type of authority to be appropriate and necessary. But I do get your point. Also I think the reason these influencers are “working” may actually be that they aren’t making a lot of money because they’ve screwed themselves with their rates through their management, rent and lifestyle expenses. It’s why they live together, it’s how they are able to keep up appearances by looking like they live this lavish, exclusive lifestyle meanwhile it’s this toxic, competitive “home-work” experiment. Not saying they deserve more money, I honestly think brands that turn to them for marketing, sponsorships and brand deals should pull back. Maybe that’ll make them realize they need to stop throwing parties and hanging out for clout
@MartinaGiovese4 жыл бұрын
True, but it's well known that many of these influencers (esp the ones put in houses together) are backed by huge millionaire investors. They basically buy these kids their mansions and back them so long as they constantly produce content, and are "profitable" enough to justify it. So I'd bet most of this is plain arrogance rather than financial issues. I do agree that their personal spending habits def play into this tho.
@scoutlaceharding4 жыл бұрын
Brands should absolutely pull back. We need to remember to hold the companies backing these people responsible, not just the creators themselves. You know what I don't think is advertiser or family friendly? Partying in a pandemic like you don't care who you casually murder for views.

I totally agree however big brands aren’t ethical and are chasing money. Only thing to shut them down is the people. Amie Marie Creative Some people were demonitized because of BLM or mentioning the pandemic in their video, so that also plays a role for why some creators lost income, depending on their content. But I understand your point. At the end of the day, they’re still in a more privileged position than the average person. I had to accept a horrible job offer because I wasn’t eligible for unemployment due to my temp job expiring as planned and the job i was supposed to have after falling apart because of COVID. I never signed anything because I was going to start in April and found out in March that they were canceling the position. Since I wasn’t laid off and my temp job was going to end in March anyway, I was denied. I had no choice but to accept a job that pays me $25,000 less than I was previously earning. So KZbinrs who can still make a good living even if the paychecks are slightly smaller than usual complaining about “not making money” is just in poor taste. Actually, it's quite simple: pandemic => economical crisis => people cannot afford to buy branded items => brands don't make a lot of money => brands pay less for advertisements We may watch more contents and they may get 10 times more views, but since brands are paying 20 times less for ads, they receive way less money at the end.

As a relatively “poor” person who lives in LA by nature of being born here... these people piss me off way too much!! The thing with LA is that the wealth disparities are HUGE. So yeah you’ve got the very wealthy people going to parties in Hollywood, and then you have working people needing to go back to work despite the risks because everyone needs food and healthcare and schooling and amazon packages delivered etc. Not to mention people having to go to beaches ... the beaches aren’t going anywhere they’ll still be there after covid!! Thankfully not everyone, and there are idiots everywhere! But whenever I hear about things happening in LA, I get extra pissed!! Because who will get better treatment? Some influencers with too much undeserved money who HAD to go to a party or an unhoused person(LA has the second largest homeless population in the US!), nurse, teacher, community leader, minimum wage worker,farm worker etc etc etc. who got sick having to work for this unjust capitalist system??? That favours these money hungry idiots?! And all usnormal people still have to pay high rents and buy food despite losing jobs! CA was doing relatively well ... and now LA county is one of the worse off areas ... 🤬 (I also agree that anyone under 25 is essentially a child lol, I’m 23 and still don’t have my life together! In this economy ...) I say yes stop supporting these people.Take all your attention away from them and don’t give them ANY money, no merch, no views, no likes on posts, absolutely nothing!! I’m a middle school teacher and it honestly worries me with the amount of my students who dream of becoming an “influencer.” I remember when kids use to dream about becoming a veterinarian or a doctor, but now at least 80% of my kids tell me they want to become a KZbinr/TikToker, and of course I encourage them to follow their dreams but when I hint at them to also have other goals they look at me like I’m crazy. It’s very concerning that my kids are idolizing people who are so careless toward the health of others in their community.

@@Author.Noelle.Alexandria Cases don't just magically go down. Staying home is what causes that. Also, nothing lasts forever makes no sense in this context. Even with bigger celebs like Kylie Jenner, she posts her dressing up to go out.... but you were preaching to stay home and isolate in the earlier months of Covid. It doesn’t make sense that everyone was freaking out when Covid first hit and preaching to their followers to stay home but now that the situation is 10 TIMES WORSE THAN WHEN IT STARTED people are acting more relaxed and not influencing people to stay home anymore. I get it we’re all sick of being home and not being able to live our previous life but WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT. this situation is not known and things pop up that we can’t control. We won’t have control or have any idea on when this will become containable until we all stay home for a while and let the actual scientists do their jobs. I get it, it pisses people off to be told “what to do” but why don’t you sit back and realize this is a new situation FOR BILLIONS OF PEOPLE!!! To me, these people going to these parties and doing wrong things in general that will be shown on social media seem to not care. They know that if it gets posted that they went, they will apologize and will have still gotten to do what they wanted (which was go to the party). The problem I have with these big influencers and celebrities who have the financial stability to stay home and literally do nothing, but choose to act irresponsibly in front of their millions of impressionable fans is that it gives this false sense that this pandemic isn't that bad. I know several people who have tested positive and experienced everything from no symptoms at all to death and everything in between. Hell, I have one friend who caught COVID way at the beginning of all this, was bed-ridden for 3 weeks straight with pneumonia (not including the other 3 weeks of just mild to moderate symptoms she experienced), and she is still experiencing breathing issues and possible permanent lung damage months later! But at the same time, I have to fight my stepson to wear a mask in public because he and his mother have been falsely reassured by the media (influencers, politicians, celebrities, etc.) that it's not as bad as it sounds because they're still traveling and partying and not being held accountable for their reprehensible behavior. The US has some of the highest infection rates in the world right now. The city I live near has had record high infection rates for weeks at a time, but when these influencers are talked about on the news and in articles everyone takes this maddeningly lukewarm approach to the situation. Why does is seem like very few people of power are calling it what it is? It's one thing if you're an average asshole who refuses to wear a mask, but the moment you have hundred of thousands to millions of people watching and emulating you, then you have the very real potential of becoming a danger to society due to your level of influence. Tana, James Charles, Jake Paul, those tik tok stars are all a prime example of this theory. But let's be real for a second. The real reason these influencers are still partying despite being reprimanded, called out, and shit on for their actions is because they possess no actual talent outside of being attractive eye candy and/or trash TV levels of "savage" and "controversial" to their pre-pubescent audience. They have no real marketable skills, no interesting attributes, or likeable personalities outside of copying the same 3 to 5 sultry and goofy looks in the camera and mimicking more talented individuals sloppily. They lack creativity and vision outside of "look at how hot I am!"/"look at how much clout I got!" and if forced to try and make actual content, they'd end up going down the same route as Paul Zimmer, quickly teetering off into obscurity and losing all of that sweet, sweet influencer coin. The whole situation pisses me off, but I sleep well at night knowing that one day they will have to face the thing that created them and justify the space they occupied while on this earth and no amount of abs and Lambos are going to help them.

The point of an influencer is to sell this personality that seems genuine, one that acts like your best friend who gives you advice, tips, and entertains you. You are more likely to buy a product if a friend recommends it to you. You are more likely to forgive someone for doing something wrong if they are a friend. Influencers deliberately and purposely blur that line between reality and fantasy in their viewers’ minds by making it seem like we know all about them and that they care about us. There are influencers who care in a general sense-they don’t wish anyone harm, they don’t want people to be sad-and there are those that simply don’t. The content that influencers create can provide a refuge for people who otherwise feel as if they have no one who likes or supports them-how many times have you come across a comment that said “you got me through a tough time”, “whenever I’m depressed I put you on and I don’t feel so sad”, etc. A one-sided emotional connection is made here, and as a result these fans feel like they owe an influencer their loyalty, as if the influencer personally sat beside them and helped them through some shit. I know it’s hard to accept, but unless you truly know these influencers in real life, they aren’t your friends. They aren’t friends in the sense that a real life friend is because they can’t be physically there to help you or talk to you and respond in the way a present person can. The happiness and obsessiveness you feel watching their videos could be because you’re searching for a routine to stabilize your life, or you’re lonely. Lots of us are lonely or missing that special confidante from their life. Even the most rational person can fall into a trap of mentally assigning these people the role of “friend” because of how often and consistently you watch them, because of their personality which you gravitate toward. That’s why these stans cant let go. That’s why it’s so hard for otherwise rational people to dump horrible influencers they’ve followed for a long time. It makes you feel as bad as if you were dumping a real life friend. Hope I don’t offend people with this comment. I don’t mean to make stans or fans out to be stupid. I’ve personally been thinking on this phenomenon of stan culture and what is it about our generation that might have triggered it-I’m assuming a lack of personal relationships, a sort of “connected online, deprived in real life”? Perhaps the lack of societal and economic stability. Perhaps it’s because our generation is in the Age of Sagittarius, who the fuck knows LOL. I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts.
