Shantell Fields interview with The Real: • [Full Interview] Laure...
FAQ:
- What glue do I use? PVA (white glue)
- What am I lining the spine with? cotton fabric
- Is there a video about diy headbands? not yet😄 but its just a piece of twine glued inside a folded scrap of cotton fabric.
- Why are you talking about a true crime case instead of talking about what you're doing? Because I feel its important to bring awareness to unsolved cases and shed light on those who sneak around in the darkness and the means they use to prey on others. And if I sat there just staring at the camera, people would wonder why I'm not crafting something. Lol

I hate to say it but because the victim is ‘of color’ the responding police officers dismissed her ‘friend’ because he was not ‘of color’. I worked for the department of Justice for over 40 years. I can't imagine what type of officer would believe a woman, upon meeting a man for the first time, trades tequila shots with him to the point of passing out. No woman does that. All women go into first dates with caution. As they should. Every member of that department from the prosecutors down should be fired and have personal and professional civil lawsuits. We sure have no problem using Rico laws to take down entire grips of civilians, even innocent ones, even though for by association is supposed to be illegal. So why not use Rico laws against incompetent civil servants. This case sounds like a dammed shame.

I have a few questions: 1.) Did the investigators know this man, 2.) was he related to one of them 3.) did he have any type of association with them 4.) Was this man in law enforcement. Its hard for me to believe that these law enforcement personnel were/are that stupid... there has to be a correlation between the man and the officers. being a retired deputy we/they are thought better than this. Maybe the officers were prejudged thinking the lady was or it was told to them she was a ....lady of the evening. I'm not saying she was. I would like to know more about this case. These type of cases make law enforcement officers look uneducated, uncaring and that is not the case with all.

Even if a person was a prostitute, homeless, or abused substances, they are still human beings that deserve to have a proper investigation done upon their death. At least take pictures of the scene. I'm baffled by the bungling of this case. I'm glad that it's getting the attention it deserves because anyone hearing Lauren's story knows that something is wrong. I would also echo @melanie nicholson 's questions. Something is fishy with the police and it's maddening knowing that if the proper procedures were followed the prosecution would have a solid case.

@@melanienicholson2834 I used to work in trades in my early 20s, so I know that there are some (not all) men who treat women as someone less competent than themselves. However, I can also say that not all men are bad or are part of the "old boys club." While working in trades, I've also worked with some of the nicest, supportive group of gentlemen who trained me on the job and looked for my best interest. Plus, I also have friends (men and women) in law enforcement (Canadian) who are good people, and, knowing them, they would have secured the scene, officially questioned the suspect, and collected the evidence. They're very by the book, and, they love and respect the law. I really hope and pray that Lauren and her family get the justice Lauren deserves. I also hope and pray that the new investigators find the evidence they need to find the person(s) responsible despite the initial mishandling of the case.

I do agree the cops dropped the ball, however, it is always advisable to get a lawyer. Never talk to police by yourself. Case in point I just studied a case where the boyfriend was tried and convicted by the public. He was scorned and asked not to attend the funeral of his girlfriend. His parents got him a lawyer right away and people right away assumed he was guilty. The cops were going after him but facts weren’t adding up. Finally they caught the murderer. Had this young mans parents not gotten him a lawyer, in the US he could have been interrogated to a breaking point.

I see people asking ‘How could they miss …..’. There is a statistic that says 20% of a company’s employees do 80% of the work. That is true in any environment. My family is dealing with this in the medical field right now. I would hazard to say that poor woman got part of the 80% that are there to get a pay check only.

This makes me so mad, for many reasons. However, in the case of the family not being notified. Well, on Sept 30 my brother passed away "in his sleep". My dad was notified because his girlfriend (where he was residing at the time of death) happened to call and see if we needed anything, and such. She had to tell him....hours after he was found unresponsive, taken to the morgue. We just got his death certificate last week. Its been a cluster &@%#$. And when my dad went to get his belongings from the sheriffs office, they were no help, and had no answers as to why they did not contact then dispight being given the info that morning. I know my situation is much different, and i hope like heck these coos in this case are delt with, and answers are found and if need be someone is held accountable.

Why would they not investigate him when there was a condom in the room even though he said they didn’t have sex (granted it could have been someone else’s but you need to test dna to be sure and they did not test the dna). Hi Dee, I talked about the facts being reported by reliable sources at the time I was researching this case. In the dozens and dozens of news articles I read, I found zero trace of the assumptions you mention other than the fact that her brother denies he took any drugs to Lauren. The only person who says that is the same guy who could have also slipped her the drugs. But, let's play devil's advocate and say she willingly did take the drugs. So, now its okay, that without any proof either way, the police let the only suspect walk away, no evidence is collected from the scene and they don't bother contacting her family? Is that how we treat people now? That was my point. The police categorically botched it and the way they treated Lauren's family was appalling.

You know, very rarely do I comment on a comment, but I cannot believe your words. What part, of anything you just said, even if true (which, as Nik pointed out, doesn't seem likely) would justify just writing off the death of a young woman, letting this likely suspect go about his business, and allow her family to be notified by happenstance? If that's truly an even exchange to you, I pity any females around you. Especially if you are one. I hope you can please understand how a person's life choices doesn't equate "deserving" tragedy befall them. A person is free to live their life however they want. As to the second point you were trying to make... What financial gain would her family stand to have, from the death of a woman buying $40 worth of drugs with a John in her house? Come on, now. What, did she have a life insurance policy? Please try to have a more forgiving heart. I hope you have a good day.
