NOTES: 3:40 lots of people keep saying the beater not moving is a result of it being the same frame rate as the camera. Assuming the video is filmed at 30fps that would require him to be playing 30 notes per second with 1 foot, which is equivalent to 16th notes at 450bpm with 1 single foot which is physically impossible. Also the song is at 300bpm, which is 20 notes per second and would mean the video would have to be filmed at 20fps so therefore he would have to be playing 20 notes per second with one foot, which is also physically impossible. For reference, 16th notes at 250bpm is 16.6 notes per second which is obviously only physically possible with 2 feet together. In the section at 9:46 I say 7.5%, however I misspoke and the actual number is 6.5% 10:09 to 17:39 my webcam isn't there because it was covering some of the comments as I was reading them when filming initially. I went back and did it again without the webcam so you guys could see everything (yes I liked my own comments. Deal with it lol) The reason you never see any comments on his videos calling out the editing mistakes is because he hides every single one of them, as shown by my example in this video of what he did to my comment. He did the same thing on his Instagram when he had an Instagram, he also does it on his KZbin community posts and his Facebook page. There are countless other examples of him doing things like this in his other videos. Most of the time they're for very small amounts of time so I didn't bother going through and showing those. There's A LOT of them so we'd have to jump sporadically from video to video and it would be jarring for you guys to watch I also recognize that there are people who will never be convinced no matter how much hard conclusive evidence you show them. If you are one of those people, this video is obviously not for you

I just called him out on a recent video and he says he has addressed these claims in a recent video. I told him the only way he can save face is to reupload unedited raw videos. he is still making chin jokes and calling you a clown. what a child. He isn't even clever with the chin jokes... Like no solo towel or sheet folding jokes :( besides, I'd rather be missing a chin than notes in a fake video.

This is fantastic level detective work, and I for one am glad to see musicians called out on this kind of stuff. The truly sad thing is that the majority of musicians on KZbin/Social Media are doing this, and they're talented enough that they DO NOT NEED TO. Unfortunately because of social media, everyone demands perfection and it's made so many musicians fall into the trap of editing their playthroughs to make everything perfect. It sets a very unrealistic bar for younger musicians watching, and I wish more musicians would just show the mistakes so people can learn and see how musicians are actually adapting and getting better.

I remember seeing so many bands/artists with their singer putting the mic away while finishing a sentence, in the middle of a live show on dvd (like Korn at CBGB or others, I remember noticing it 20 years ago lol) but you keep hearing the end of the sentence like the mic is still in the same position. They re-recorded live takes above the live takes to create a better mix and sell dvds or live albums which have a great sound. In a way this type of cleaning is everywhere. Like in the hands of producers, albums directors, who often "arrange" drum tracks for young local bands to make their drummer sound better, on time. I've seen this once, the drummer was really really bad. Technical like blasting and blasting and blasting but unable to maintain a bpm and build clean transitions or fills etc. The energy was insane but the rendering pretty horrible. The engineer showed me the tracks before and after his clinical intervention, that was something. I wonder how much of a "lying" system or mecanism we can identify as natural, or part of "the spectacle" if not the art in a lot of cases...

Stephen from Deftones released a bunch of "playthroughs" that were quite obviously just him miming to an mp3. I really question the point of that kind of video, unless you're that very specific type of guitar player who learns songs from watching another players' hands.

Here's the thing, Mike called that out but the first thing I heard was the fact that there's fake double bass under the hands. Go listen again, clearly 16th note kicks following right hand on the raw audio with many pauses in between, and in the doctored audio he's blatantly added so many fake kicks especially towards the end of the video. It's astonishing how fake that video is. No way is he even attempting doubles, There isn't even a remnant of a second stroke after each defined note.

Hey love your drumming but why waste your time with this petty nonsense? You never see Thomas Lang, Chambers, etc get caught up in whos the best, who is doing what. Fair enough, and thank you for the support. I am not worried about "whos the best" because that is so overwhelmingly subjective. I guess I support videos like this because, hopefully, it encourages people to have more integrity in a genre that is built on "What you can pull off." It just feels like a slap in the face when I see edited videos and then people losing their minds in the comments (Call that jealousy if wish). Facts: Marco has waaaaay more subs than I do and has done a lot more than I ever have. I give credit where it's due but I just wish the dishonesty would stop. In this video, the "slowed" version of the take for the ROS song was SOLID and super clean. That was MORE than enough for the album, and I actually prefer it to the sped-up take. Natty Marco shreds - just wish he would stay natty.

From watching a lot of stories about people who get caught cheating: It seems like the reason talented people cheat is because they feel deeply that they are as good as their fake performance, but something out of their control is preventing them from proving it to everyone. So they fake the proof, but they are ok with it because they still feel like they could have done it legitimately under perfect circumstances.

This isn't even saying he is a bad drummer . . . Like Mike said. He has chops and a good memory. But, now that this is shown... he goes straight victim. '' I'm a dad, I couldn't tour w Rings ( even though he tours w SFU ) I only practice 10 minutes a week.. I work full time" and ? Who doesn't ? Plus saying that Mike is '' Pointing out videos that are 6 - 8 years old ... '' What does the age of the video have to do with anything ?? Are they sped up or not ? Because the live REAL videos do not cancel out the at home sped up vids. I personally don't know of any Death Metal drummers vids that look this unnatural, beside his. I literally know zero. Now, once the speed increase on the vids wasn't getting caught, he got greedy. Thinking he got away with it. Threw on a blindfold . . . Impossible unnatural looking fills and hit hat closures. Went from left hand finger blasts to wrist overnight 300 bpm + Making profile pictures of himself stating that HE was the reason you should quit drums. Absolutely idolizes himself. Ego Just admit some of your videos are sped up, and edited, this will be over. And stop saying, they're raw, and untouched. Deleting the called out videos to me is admission of guilt in my eyes.

Not going to make the accusation but Ragnar S has a video that probably also needs a closer look. It can be very hard to tell sometimes but it looks to me like it might be sped up slightly, something about the movement of his body (hair in particular, but also his muscle movement is weirdly jumpy) and the way the cymbals settle is in the uncanny valley. If it isn't fake he should get the gig just for being aesthetically unsettling, seems like a good fit for their vibe. I don't know why people would be faking auditions though, unlike throwaway covers for engagement you'll actually be expected to repeat the finished product on a nightly basis if your plan works out. Although I guess merely doing an audition is "good content" in itself, so maybe the plan is to fail but in a way that gets more views.

A lot of people look up to this guy and when they try to emulate his drumming and realize they can’t they will feel inferior and like they aren’t good enough. They tell themselves maybe it’s not for me and go somewhere else where they feel they have a fighting chance. In reality the other human they were “competing” with was just a computer that they could physically never win against. Happens in competitive gaming all the time.

I love this content, and I’m extremely impressed by the work you put in. Love the drama, and I appreciate the community’s input. Drum Experience: in 4th grade I split bongo work in a school performance with Jamie Bradley. Who incidentally, also sped up his raws.

Dude finally someone is talking about this. Marco is a great drummer no doubt but man no one fucking talks about him speeding up videos. I thought I was crazy

Slightly speeding up performance videos so that they seem incredible while also plausible?! Who would do such a thing!? Instagram guitarists sweating nervously

There’s a channel by a dude called Karl Jobst in which he exposes fake speedrun videos for video games. This could be that but with drums. I’d watch it all day.

this was actually a pretty well-mannered take on a subject like this. At first I didn't even want to watch it because I feared it would leave a bad after taste like when Miles did his video on Charles Caswell/Berried Alive. Saw you on that RoS gig and that was what made me follow you. Keep going man.

This is a great video, thanks for breaking it all down in a calm and collected way. I was actually thinking about (I think it was the second clip) his phantom limb gravity blasts the other day lol. Also "sold my chin to the devil at the crossroads" made me literally laugh out loud hahahaha, keep shredding bro.

What is your opinion on Riccardo Merlini? His hands are obviously really fast and he seems like a great drummer but to me it sounds like in some of his videos he hard quantizes his blasts/gravityblasts and double bass, especially in the latest Archspire audition video. He makes a lot of videos showcasing his hand technique but I've seen none on his foot technique which is sus

@@Martti020 IA C*ntcrusher is sus. Guy has too bad of a technique to play that fast and clean for that long. even a real drummer like George Kollias would struggle with that nonsense.

The need for musicians to fake their playing to appear better than their contemporaries, or simply to look more impressive, is illustrative of a pandemic of perfectionism. The better you appear the more attention you get. In the attention economy that is social media, those views mean everything. You see this a lot in the social media guitar world. Unrealistic standards and that craving for attention hurts the integrity of the art and artists. It's a shame that this dishonesty and perfectionism is so ubiquitous. I'm not immune to this, either - if I hear mistakes or if something feels off, I instinctually switch to a person who plays "better". We live in a tough world, man.

You don't need to be even an amateur drummer to catch the sped up footage and even though it was only 7.5%, you still can't escape the uncanny feeling you get when you watch his motions as well as those of his kit. Just that alone is enough for someone like to me believe there's a lot more funny business tucked in with editing but since I don't know drumming I'll let the rest to the pros.
