NOTES: 3:40 lots of people keep saying the beater not moving is a result of it being the same frame rate as the camera. Assuming the video is filmed at 30fps that would require him to be playing 30 notes per second with 1 foot, which is equivalent to 16th notes at 450bpm with 1 single foot which is physically impossible. Also the song is at 300bpm, which is 20 notes per second and would mean the video would have to be filmed at 20fps so therefore he would have to be playing 20 notes per second with one foot, which is also physically impossible. For reference, 16th notes at 250bpm is 16.6 notes per second which is obviously only physically possible with 2 feet together. In the section at 9:46 I say 7.5%, however I misspoke and the actual number is 6.5% 10:09 to 17:39 my webcam isn't there because it was covering some of the comments as I was reading them when filming initially. I went back and did it again without the webcam so you guys could see everything (yes I liked my own comments. Deal with it lol) The reason you never see any comments on his videos calling out the editing mistakes is because he hides every single one of them, as shown by my example in this video of what he did to my comment. He did the same thing on his Instagram when he had an Instagram, he also does it on his KZbin community posts and his Facebook page. There are countless other examples of him doing things like this in his other videos. Most of the time they're for very small amounts of time so I didn't bother going through and showing those. There's A LOT of them so we'd have to jump sporadically from video to video and it would be jarring for you guys to watch I also recognize that there are people who will never be convinced no matter how much hard conclusive evidence you show them. If you are one of those people, this video is obviously not for you

This is fantastic level detective work, and I for one am glad to see musicians called out on this kind of stuff. The truly sad thing is that the majority of musicians on KZbin/Social Media are doing this, and they're talented enough that they DO NOT NEED TO. Unfortunately because of social media, everyone demands perfection and it's made so many musicians fall into the trap of editing their playthroughs to make everything perfect. It sets a very unrealistic bar for younger musicians watching, and I wish more musicians would just show the mistakes so people can learn and see how musicians are actually adapting and getting better.

I remember seeing so many bands/artists with their singer putting the mic away while finishing a sentence, in the middle of a live show on dvd (like Korn at CBGB or others, I remember noticing it 20 years ago lol) but you keep hearing the end of the sentence like the mic is still in the same position. They re-recorded live takes above the live takes to create a better mix and sell dvds or live albums which have a great sound. In a way this type of cleaning is everywhere. Like in the hands of producers, albums directors, who often "arrange" drum tracks for young local bands to make their drummer sound better, on time. I've seen this once, the drummer was really really bad. Technical like blasting and blasting and blasting but unable to maintain a bpm and build clean transitions or fills etc. The energy was insane but the rendering pretty horrible. The engineer showed me the tracks before and after his clinical intervention, that was something. I wonder how much of a "lying" system or mecanism we can identify as natural, or part of "the spectacle" if not the art in a lot of cases...

It just feels like a slap in the face when I see edited videos and then people losing their minds in the comments (Call that jealousy if wish). Facts: Marco has waaaaay more subs than I do and has done a lot more than I ever have. I give credit where it's due but I just wish the dishonesty would stop. In this video, the "slowed" version of the take for the ROS song was SOLID and super clean. That was MORE than enough for the album, and I actually prefer it to the sped-up take. Not going to make the accusation but Ragnar S has a video that probably also needs a closer look. It can be very hard to tell sometimes but it looks to me like it might be sped up slightly, something about the movement of his body (hair in particular, but also his muscle movement is weirdly jumpy) and the way the cymbals settle is in the uncanny valley. If it isn't fake he should get the gig just for being aesthetically unsettling, seems like a good fit for their vibe. I don't know why people would be faking auditions though, unlike throwaway covers for engagement you'll actually be expected to repeat the finished product on a nightly basis if your plan works out. Although I guess merely doing an audition is "good content" in itself, so maybe the plan is to fail but in a way that gets more views.

A lot of people commenting don’t seem to understand the effects this type of “cheating” has on other drummers. Marco is setting a bar that is so high that it’s physically impossible to compete with. A lot of people look up to this guy and when they try to emulate his drumming and realize they can’t they will feel inferior and like they aren’t good enough. They tell themselves maybe it’s not for me and go somewhere else where they feel they have a fighting chance. In reality the other human they were “competing” with was just a computer that they could physically never win against. Happens in competitive gaming all the time.

The need for musicians to fake their playing to appear better than their contemporaries, or simply to look more impressive, is illustrative of a pandemic of perfectionism. The better you appear the more attention you get. In the attention economy that is social media, those views mean everything. You see this a lot in the social media guitar world. Unrealistic standards and that craving for attention hurts the integrity of the art and artists. It's a shame that this dishonesty and perfectionism is so ubiquitous. I'm not immune to this, either - if I hear mistakes or if something feels off, I instinctually switch to a person who plays "better". We live in a tough world, man.
