The problem being, yes, there are many peppers topping 2.7-million on the hottest examples. Pepper X was tested for an average of 2.7-million Scoville. I have had Reapers coming close to that peak, but with average peppers being below the 1.6-million in my experience. With my growing season, many of my ghost peppers have been hotter than my reapers. Anyway, there are probably examples of Pepper X topping 3-million Scoville, since the average is nearly 2.7-million; I would imagine, the hottest Pepper X are probably closing in on 4-million.

I’m guessing 10 different people could buy seed from the exact same pod from someone like Ed Curry and plant them. You might get 10 different shu readings from each person. I think the heat has a lot to do with the quantity and quality of soil nutrients. Even the amount of water that the plants get have a direct outcome on the heat. You can watch some of the videos from large farms and see the equipment making maps of which areas of a field need more fertilizer or whatever. It varies in the same field! Anyway I’m rambling, but my point is I’m betting someone has peppers growing right now that would beat the record. And I’m betting if you could sample every pepper out there it would be broken multiple times just due to soil composition, nutrients, water, and amounts of sunlight they get. It kinda fascinating when you think about it! Any another great video!

I hate politics. That is the reason it bothers me when there is politics in peppers. There are. A weird time we live in. Thirty years ago there were stars. They were inaccessible. If you saw a movie or something they did that you HATED, you made a note to self, and didn't watch their work moving forward. The stars didn't really have trolls. They had people who didn't like their work, but the viewer could do nothing about it. We didn't know who they voted for. Most of them didn't share that stuff. Then social media. Now to be a star or even small scale like what I do, (I am not a star), to be successful you need to be accessible. If they don't like something I do, I get bombarded with messages on every social media platform and hate email. I do have trolls. Not one who has met me in person. People who were once big fans. tried who do a channel, failed and then simply decided they hate me. SOme make videos lying about me and my family. So many people in the spotlight try to influence people in politics even if they aren't in that space. I think it's disgusting. I won't ever change when it comes to that. No politics here. Thank you

You know what Guinness likes? Record Breakers. You know what Guinness doesn't like? Record holders. Only record-breakers sell. There's a reason the Apollo pepper which can hit 3 million scovilles doesn't hold the record. The pepper has to be genetically stable first. Also I know a Guinness Book World Record holder and they do NOT have to pay beyond the application fee which is between $5 and $1,000 depending on the speed which you prefer them to judge you and whether it's an existing or new record.

The question is how the world's hottest pepper is determined. It could really be 2.7M Scoville units and not the hottest pepper to you. That doesn't mean Ed's lying, it means that scoville units determining hotness is flawed. I mean it’s all sort of subjective really. I’ve had reapers that were insane and others that were similar to other “lesser heat index” peppers I grew. I grow moruga scorpions and 2 harvests ago they were the hottest peppers I’d put in my mouth. So many factors go into it though. Even where your tolerance is at the time of consumption. I added primotalis to my garden this year and to be honest to me they aren’t anywhere near the strains of moruga scorpions and Carolina reapers I’ve grown these last 4-5 years. However the scorpion and reaper seeds have become my own given I take seeds from peppers I grow where the primotalis are in their first year of me having them. I keep bees as well(45 bee hives) and I’m here to tell you that I’m almost certain they have been a key reason why certain strains I have are hotter than others, but there’s no way of knowing what’s cross pollinated or not lol. Just enjoy them all is what I say! ❤

Great video. Well said. Thanks for starting with the Reaper was not the hottest pepper for a long time. Guiness Record, lmbo. Thanks for being honest!

I 100% believe he’s got peppers lined up if any contender steps up and topples the X. The fact alone he has a pepper with stabilized genetics at 2.69 million scoville average is pretty impressive.

It's pretty sad to hear so many people divided over peppers. I became a part of this community because I love spice and I feel united with people who share the same. I haven't had the chance to meet Johnny, but I have met Ed and some others and one thing I appreciate is the shared passion and love for peppers.

If you look at it with all the facts, it is understandable why the community is divided. They began promoting it years and years ago. The hype was insane. They roll it out and only NOW announce that it will NEVER be released and the 4 or 5 who ate it will be the only people who EVER eat that pepper. Had they announced years ago nobody would ever eat one, there would be less backlash. They deserve the heat they are taking. A pepper that will NEVER be released to the public, only ever ssampled by 4 people who don't review peppers, and people are wondering why there is controversy here? Please. It's never going to be taken seriously now, and that's on Puckerbutt

@ChaseTheHeat I don't dispute any of that, and I appreciate the opportunity to hear both sides!

@@ChaseTheHeatI seen a video of Chilli Klaus (reviews peppers) Sean Evans ( hosts a show on eating and reviewing hot wing flavours. Ed and Nate Chaimberg who hosts Heatonists…. I’d reckon all 4 of them review peppers. And you can order the Pepper X sauce from Sean Evans HotOnes show….

You doing right Johnny. I read Comments under Products in a German Company of Chillis from a Woman, the Trinidad Moruga Skorpion powder must be so much hotter like the Carolina Reaper, so i buy it too, and must say this is right. The most Companies act accordingly what say the Guinness Book, but only the Guys they crown the Chillis, and Chilliheads can say what is the hottest Chilli in the World

I think it can be said of all pepper varieties and even peppers in general that there’s the possibility of a rogue mutation of a fruit. It could be isolated, unstable, stable, random. I’ve had a jalapeño that was lined with an oily placenta like a super hot but the seeds never produced a fruit like that ever again. I think the rating should encompass the average heat level of every pepper a single plant produces in a season or the most common value of heat produced among the harvest. Isolating a single pepper in selective heat testing that throws out the lower end values really doesn’t prove anything other than a plant’s ability to produce a semi stable genetic mutation. But if a plant is reliably unstable as in it consistently produces hotter than normal pods and the seeds of those pods are also reliably producing a high percentage of hot peppers in a single harvest, then the overall heat rating deserves to be higher. So rate the consistency of the prevalence of abnormally hot peppers as opposed to the upper limit of a selective batch. That’ll end the controversy. No pepper left unaccounted for.

I tried the EXperience hot sauce from hot ones with majority pepper x in it. Did not get a lot of heat from it at all. Not sure if it’s the way they make the sauce or if it’s a ploy to sell more of it.

I don't have a dog in the fight either. I'll simply say that if a mustard pod is legitimately the hottest pepper in the world, a lot of people are going to have to rethink their assumptions.

The pictures early on made it appear to be very similar to the big Mustard Mama. But the pod they’ve just released looks an awful lot like a gator jigsaw Mustard to me. But what do I know? I only eat them for a living.

When the SHU is measured, is just an individual pepper used or is it the average of many measurements? I think it makes sense that each pepper has its specific ever measured maximum heat but more important is the average of at least 100 or more individual pepper in order to say "how hot" a Variety is. The (few) Reapers I had were very different in heat, guess there are not many reaching to 2+ Mil scoville.
@fakename6658 Жыл бұрын
They measure concentration of capsaicin in many peppers to get an average SHU.
