I think it's important that you guys know my thought process behind stuff and how it feels to be on this side of the lens. Sorry for getting so emotional! I thought the review was witty and honest, all while being as diplomatic as possible. You can't please people. They crap on people who give PR samples a favourable review because they "sold out" and are "pandering" to the brand. They crap on you if you give a negative review because you're "ungrateful". People don't seem to understand that companies are saving thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in advertising by offering samples to KZbinrs, so they are giving out PR samples for their own benefit; if it were from the kindness of their hearts, they'd give samples to people with less than 10,000 or 5,000 subscribers who might have mentioned that they liked their product. Just keep on being you. You can't please all people - there are some people who just don't like chocolate chip cookies (the maniacs) despite them being delicious.

Here's some unsolicited advice from an older women: You are allowed to be disagreeable. Do not fall into the outdated pattern of believing that women should be all sweetness and light, because that's bullshit, and no way to live. So you didn't like some Besame products, who cares? Others like them, so who cares about that? Would you apologize if you didn't like a book or a movie that other people love? Hell no, because that's what makes life interesting. It's our differences more than our similarities that add spice to life.

I'm sorry you had to experience the reactions from people the way you did. My boyfriend even said to me "watch her get attacked in some way because it's Besame and people will find a reason to get mad." after asking what you were talking about. Let me just state that I LOVED the fact that you made mention that them sending you free products is a way for them to get free marketing, because that's exactly why they do it. They didn't send me anything. Why? Because I don't have the audience. You do. It's just how that works. If anyone gets upset because you didn't bow down at their feet, praising their product because they sent you free things, is ridiculous. Not once did I feel that you were ungrateful, (you said you were honored and flattered at the very beginning) not once did I think you were making that video because you had to (you even said you did it because you wanted to) You were just honest about why they sent it and how you felt about the product and I appreciate that more than anything because most people aren't that way. Again, I'm sorry you had to experience the negative comments and defamation of your character. It's always tough when giving an opinion because you never know how people will react to it. Anyways, hope your project went well and I look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks!! I really do hope you and Christine stop by swing dancing in the evening! :) p.s. it took me WAAAAY too long to figure out the "GRWM" stood for "get ready with me" lol XD

Rachel, I watch your videos when I am in a bad mood or having a bad day- you ALWAYS make me feel better. Your videos provide a safe haven for us tender souls who get beaten up in day to day life. See, one of the major reasons why I'm subscribed to your channel is that you are a human I can relate to. You are honest, sometimes fragile, you have emotions and opinions, just like any of us. I know how hard dealing with criticism is, I'm just as much of a "crybaby" as you when it comes to that. But please don't feel like you have to apologize to us for being imperfect, we all are. I actually want to hear your honest opinions even they don't fit with my own, and I don't want you to feel like you have to weigh every word you say because somewhere, someone *might* misunderstand you. That attitude wouldn't make for very interesting and original content, as can easily be seen in a great number of youtube videos (sadly). I think you're headed in a good direction, not that the humble opinion of a viewer should matter that much, but keep calm and carry on!

I've made the comment in the past that part of Besame's appeal is the romance of old-fashioned products in retro packaging, and that does sometimes mean they don't always perform as well as more modern products. That being said, there's no such thing as one standard of perfection in cosmetics, everyone knows what works for them and what doesn't. I'm not entirely sure why that's getting you flack, if I'm honest. It definitely hurts my heart to see you torn up about it, Darling. You were fair in your review and didn't come off as bratty to me at all. As for making videos when you're not feeling 100%, that's totally fine! If I wanted makeup or fashion tips with no personality, there are plenty of other channels I could watch. We watch yours because we love YOU! and that includes you on tough days. I usually put my makeup on at work before anyone else gets there and I like to have your videos playing while I get ready. Hun, don’t ever apologize for being human and having an off day or for being honest! You even said in the video- there’s a niche that would love that stuff because of the vintage feel. You were simply giving a practical opinion about the products. Sure, those things are cool for what they are but I’m proud of you for not faking it and pushing a product against your better judgement. That’s the point of those types of videos. Not everyone is going to love each and every product or any at all. That’s how companies figure out what works and doesn’t work. That’s what those PR boxes are for. Oh sweetheart I just want to give you the biggest hug ever and curl up with our dogs and watch Wonder Woman! However as I can’t do that I will say this, checking you tube more than once a day is not healthy and i think just checking it at work and spending time with your family is a much better idea and will help you feel happier.. This new you tube thing they just announced basically screwed all us small channels but I started my channel to make friends and raise awareness for disability and just to be social and now I have 200 subscribers! I watched the Besame video and thought it was a good review. You were witty and followed the crazy lipstick directions and honestly reminded me that i have those lipsticks too somewhere in my collection, and have not used them (probably cuz theyre a pain to put on). The fact thst you are not comfortable with paying the prices for a lipstick is fine. Girl, we dont know your life or finances. That private part of your life should stay that way unless ur comfortable with sharing. But my point is that we dont know what you are comfortable with buying and what you can afford. I appreciate your video because u gave me a dupe for purchasing red liquid lipstick that wont break the bank . I really liked the Besame review! I thought it was fair and not at all harsh. I see so many reviews on youtube that almost seem forced and disingenuous because they don't want to say anything bad about a product. I don't think you have anything to apologize for and certainly don't feel bad! That's part of why I love your videos, they're genuine and sincere.

The behind the scenes with the Photoshop video idea sounds neat. And you seemed stressed in your last video more than anything, and kinda anxious. You usually seem more relaxed but like the review was something you knew was not gonna end well for you bc you have different makeup preferences than the brand was based around. Which is fair and fine, and you expressly mentioned you were trying to be honest but not hateful like 4-5 times and that other people could totally like the things you didn't.

My cat is the same, she even notifies me when I'm about to have a fit. I have m.e so I get these weird sezuires and she's always up in my grill when I'm about to get sick. Dear Rachel, I love your videos. And I think that the Besame review was absolutely ok. I´m really sad, that you are sad because of feedback on that video. I like honest opinion on cosmetic products. Especially when you get it for free. I don´t understand, that people on the Internet and even brands expect, that if you have something for free you must say just positive things about it and be super grateful. I know that you are grateful. Everyone is grateful when he gets something for free. But there is no rule, that you have to be just positive. It´s not a review, if you don´t say your opinion. It´s lie and pretence. And unfortunatelly lots of beauty youtubers do it. That´s why I like your review, beacause it was honest and "in your style". I like your humor and your expressions. I know you might not see this because this video is older, but I just watched it and it made me cry... My daughter and I stumbled on your channel a week ago and have been binge watching all your videos because we love them. I relate to you on a lot of levels and you're a very soothing uplifting presence. I'm a little older than you and have never expressed my creative side other than some eyeshadow, and watching your videos gives me hope that someday I CAN actually express myself in creative ways that most likely aren't openly embraced by society. Life has been one long nightmare of abuse and trauma for me, and you and your personality help me feel like one day life can be peaceful and maybe a little fun too. I watched your other video too and I do not think you did anything wrong. All the points you mentioned that a few folks complained about, I was sitting there agreeing with you as you were saying how unpractical the mascara was and such. It was just a logical observation. You shouldn't feel like you need to apologize for having your own opinions. I've watched most of your videos and didn't think that you seemed off-colour in the last one. You seemed just as honest as usual. The difference was that you're usually talking about things that you're really passionate about. I like Besame's lipsticks personally, but I thought that your points were valid - they're not for you. Your review was very balanced, and you acknowledged your biases. It's also worth noting that your video was probably very reassuring to some, as Besame's products are out of reach for many people because of their prices. It can seem as though Besame, along with other products with a strong following, is a necessary part of dressing vintage, and I think you highlight that that isn't the case. Stay strong, and keep up the amazing work xxx

Anyway, I just look forward so much to your videos, and you are my favorite KZbinr. When I was younger, I was just like you, and just wanted everyone to LIKE me. Now that I am older I really just don’t give a rip if they do or not, so I guess that’s one advantage to years of dealing with people and all of the drama that goes with dealing with people. I guess there's always going to be the issue of a person possibly seeming ungrateful but honest vs being grateful to the point of pandering. I personally didn't think that it seemed that ungrateful a video, but I am also aware that I watch other KZbinrs that are quite weary about sponsors because some of their audience thinks they only review it well because they're paid or the stuff they were given to review is free. And because Besame is like a small cult brand (if that makes sense), if a person is going searching for it, they are probably more inclined to like it and therefore see the video as negative. But one small setback is just a useful lesson going forward, as shitty as it feels at the moment. Please make sure to take care of yourself and make sure you have a good break after your project is done. I look forward to your next videos and cosplays, and hope this doesn't put you off from being your fun, sassy self :)
