I like to make sweet potato porridge for breakfast. I grow up eating it in China. It's so simple and easy. Traditionally, all u need is sweet potato and rice. Boil rice and water together in the pot and put the diced sweet potato in the pot, cooked it until the desire consistency. However, i do find that it takes a long time in the morning to make rice porridge. To speed up i replace rice with oats and i cook the sweet potato the night before. U don't need any added sugar in this recipe which is always a good thing! To make it even better, toss some chia seed, flax seeds or any kind of seeds u have on hand. U can also add coconut milk or soy milk to make it more liquidy! I love having it for breakfast, it's really fulfilling!

I love making sweet potato rosti's/hash-browns. Very easy to prepare: - Peel 2 or 3 large sweet potatoes. - Grate using a box grated on the course side into a bowl - Season with a generous pinch of medium grain sea salt and leave for 10 minutes - Drain excess liquid out of the bowl by placing hand over the top of the grated potato - Dump the potato into a clean thin tea towel and tighten up the end to squeeze out as much moisture as possible - Add back to a clean bowl and season with freshly ground black pepper and 4tbps of melted butter. - Form into rough patties or using a ring mold. - Now fry in a pan with 2 or 3 tbps of any oil of your choice on medium heat for 10-15 minutes or until the potato is tender and the edges are golden brown Perfect to serve with fried or poached eggs on top.

One of my favorite ways to use them is soup: Cut into chunks, toss with olive oil, salt, pepper, and roast them. In a stock pot, saute onion and a bit of garlic, add roasted sweet potatoes, thyme, and a pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, and to your taste). Deglaze the roasting pan with a bit of your favorite chicken or veggie stock, add it and the rest of the stock to the pot. Simmer until all of the veg is tender. Wiz until smooth. If you are short on time, you can skip the roasting step and just add cubed, raw sweet potato to the pot, but the caramelized bits add loads of flavor.

A chunk of sweet potato cooked just right in the oven, with a dash of salt, is a thing of beauty. In with the roast, using its soft centre to mop up gravy and meat remnants towards the end of the plate is a landmark in my childhood memories. If one can love a vegetable, it must be this masterpiece of flavour, colour and health, surely.

Sweet Potatoe & Pumpkin Mash So basically what I do is boil 1/3rd sweet potatoes, 1/3rd of regular potatoes and 1/3rd of pumpkin or butternut squash until they are all nice and soft. I add some salt & 1 vegetable stock cube to my water (always!) for some extra flavor. Mash it all up and then add come cumin, some nigella, nutmeg, pepper, coriander (fresh if you have it otherwise grounded will do nicely as well) - anything you like really! You could also add some garlic, some parsley, just play with it. Some drops of truffle oil, some good butter, etc. can also spunk it up - depending on what you’re serving the mash with. Occasionally I add some coconut cream as well. Then I just grate some cheese (parmesan, povolone, other Italian/French cheeses) on the top and let that gratinate for about 10-15 minutes in a preheated oven on 200°C. It’s yum! You obviously don’t need to gratinate this dish, it’s perfect in and on its own but I’m just cheesy that way.

I started substituting potatoes for sweet potatoes 100% of the time a year or two ago and haven't missed regular one bit. I mash, bake, roast, pan fry, and slow cook them. Sometimes I cook them savory, sometimes sweet, sometimes even in a dessert. I also use different types, orange for sweeter, Japanese for savory or if I want more bite to a dish (red ones get mushier so they are better for mashed). Fun fact: Sweet potato isn't even in the potato family, they are technically the below ground part of a type of morning flower, and as such, have long vines with pretty flowers on them.

The way I like to use sweet potatoes is for vegetable curry. I usually use normal potatoes, pumpkin (hokkaido or something similar), pepper and sweet potatoes the combination of hokkaido pumpkin and sweet potatoes is just the best thing ever. You just roast some onions, garlic and ginger, add the vegetables, roast them with a little oil, add water and some lovely curry masalas and raw turmeric and let the whole thing simmer for 30-45 minutes until it's nice and creamy and there you go, its kind of my own recipe that I just figured out by trial and error and I love to make this, its simple and really delicious!

I love sweet potatoes. My favorite way to make them is to just cube them (I leave the peel on, but you can remove it), spice them with salt, pepper and a bit of thyme, drizzle them with olive oil, add one or two sliced onions and roast them in a 180°C oven for about 20 minutes, flipping everything once halfway through. They also go into my harvest stew:3 slices bacon or turkey bacon, or1 tablespoon lard; 2 tablespoons olive oil; 1 onion, chopped; 2 cloves garlic, chopped; 1 bell pepper, chopped; 1 teaspoon dried chili; 1 teaspoon dried thyme; 1 cup cooked kidney beans; 1 cup fresh corn; 2 cups diced sweet potato; 2 cups diced squash or pumpkin; 2 fresh tomatoes, diced; 1 cup chicken, veal or vegetable broth; salt and pepper to taste. In a large pan, cook the bacon over medium heat. Add the olive oil (or if using lard, heat the lard and oil together). Add the onion, garlic and bell pepper, sauté until the onion is translucent. Add chili and thyme. Add everything else except the corn and simmer for about 10 minutes, then add the corn and simmer another 10 minutes. Top with avocado slices and sliced scallions, and serve with a crispy bread.

I make a sweet potato mash. I add milk and a bit of cream cheese to the mash (instead of butter or cream). Gives it a little bit of salt to balance out the sweetness. I'll often add a bit of pumpkin to the mash as well. Goes great with roasts, and freezes/reheats well. I also use it when making pumpkin soup. 2 parts pumpkin, 1 part sweet potato, 1 part normal potato, cook it all in stock (usually chicken) with herbs of choice (I usually go with a bit of thyme, rosemary or lavender) until super soft, and then whizz altogether. Add a bit of thickened cream and heat through, then serve with cheese toasties.

Here's a really easy recipe for making sweat potato fries. Grab a bowl. Cut each sweat potato into (ex. 8) wedges. One potato per person. Throw them in a bowl. Add olive oil. Add paprika powder. No need to peal the sweat potatoes because there's loads of flavor in the skin too!

I live in California and I grew up eating sweet potato. In spanish they're called Camote. be sure to poke a couple of holes on each side and roast at 350 Fahrenheit for 45 to about 1 hour (depending on size). My mom once told me that back in the 1930's, her mother would throw a few whole into the embers of their wood burning stove after dinner. Then the men would put them in their pockets and warm their hands on their way to work at 4:30 in the morning. They would eat them for lunch. They're really good with some milk and cinnamon! So naturally sweet.

It's easy and yummy!!!

Add some of the water, salt, pepper, a LITTLE BIT of nutmeg and stir it really good! You can add more water as you go, if you feel like it ad butter if you want. Delish!!! :)

My favourite way to use a sweet potato is for breakfast! I chop it up into tiny little cubes and fry it in grapeseed oil in a pan on low-medium heat. I add some smoked paprika and get a delicious sweet potato hash that I eat with eggs! Make sure the yolk is extra runny and you will start your day off smashingly! Loved the video Jamie! You've done it once again!! Xoxoxoxo

My family originates from Emilia Romagna, in Italy: the land of stupped pasta and most importantly of pumpkin ravioli. I love them and I love pumpkin, but a few years back we had the idea to use sweet potatoes for ravioli: they are delish. Sweet potatoes, though, are much drier than pumpkin or squash, so you can make them half and half with pumpkin or just dilute the filling with a dash of milk (or vegetable milk).

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but I love it simply mashed with salt, pepper, garlic powder and paprika. Then I serve it with some crushed nuts on top - it looks super fancy and it tastes amazing!

Mother nature is really impressive and i feel so blessed to be peruvian and knowing that all these "superfoods" (like sweet potato, quinoa, and many many more that are not that popular yet like "cañihua", "camu camu", and so on... ) are originally from Peru, also ecuador, bolivia, colombia and chile... i think south america has a LOT to offer :D

they work very well in veggie-lasagne, i slice them with skin and put them in the ofen while its heating up for the lasagne, prepare the rest (i often use cooked fresh spinach with garlic and mozzarella, a tomatoe-veggie-sauce, maybe with a quorn substitute for mincedmeat, and i put champignons and boletus in my bechamel. i also use some cilantro and basil - quorn used well is a very good substitute btw) also, you could put it with spicy oiled endivies, wallnuts and pumpkin in the ofen.

A really great roasted sweet potato/roasted red pepper blender soup: roast whole sweet potato and bell pepper : cool off pepper and strip skin off, put them in a blender with a bit of chili flakes, one small clove of garlic juice of half a lemon and a cup of water. Don't even need salt or olive oil, it's so flavour rich.

An amazing salad (I don't have exact quantities, sorry! but it's pretty easy to eyeball as much as you need for the amount of people): - Sweet potato, cubed, drizzled with olive oil, roasted in oven with salt and pepper. - Baby spinach - Olive oil - Balsamic vinegar - Fetta, cubed/crumbled - Roasted pine nuts Toss it all together, viola! Add anything else your heart desires. It's DE-licious.

I have a problem planning ahead. While my breakfast is cooking, I skin & chop a sweet potato & put it in a cup of water & microwave it for 2 minutes. Drain & mix with 2 spoons of pico de gallo, salt & pepper. Add some string cheese. Pack it up and you have lunch ready to go!

I have swapped my frozen chips out for sweet potatoes instead. takes a minute to chop them up and pop them in the oven for 40 mins with olive oil and a bit of salt and pepper (plus paprika if you fancy some sweet smokiness)

If you're feeling a bit lazy or have to rush, you can still get your sweet potato in! Just cut it up into cubes, place in a bowl, cover 1/2 with water then microwave for about 4-5 mins depending on how much you've got! Saves me so much time :)

I'm from Romania and i bought sweet potatoes yesterday for the first time. They were a little expensive (about 1.5$, compared to normal potatoes which are around 50 cents or cheaper) because they are kind of exotic here. I baked them in the oven with salt, pepper and paprika (to be safe), but my family didn't like them. :-( I wish they were more open minded.

I love sweet potato and coriander soup. Or even just sweet potato soup. I make it as any soup, chop sweet potatoes, carrots, onion, cook in stock then blend and add coriander green to the blend. You could cook with the coriander then the coriander flavour is more subtle. I like both ways.

I love substituting my normal potatoes for sweet potatoes! I make baked potatoes out of them. Instead of the massive portions you get from big baking potatoes I just throw them in the oven for, once they are done cut through them and add my toppings. Tuna, peppers, etc! If anyone try's this let me know your outcome!

my favorite soup is roasted lil cubes of carrots, pumpkins, SWEET POTATOES ,bit of sliced ginger, rosemary, half on a red onion in big wedges , salt , pepper , cayenne , olive oil. roast that for about 45 minutes at 200C . put the roasted veggies in a blender and put two fingers of boiling water in the trail , scrub all the goodness there and put a teaspoon of miso paste, put that express broth in the blender too, blend it up well . Enjoy

Simple fast effective. Just cut n throw into mixing bowl. Put enough olive oil in to get them slimy. Throw in a dash of salt, dash of pepper and a hefty amount of garlic. Oven 400 degrees 20-28 minutes dep on your oven. Done. I like these more than my main dish

Spread the sweet potato love! One of my favourite sweet potato dishes is a vegetarian curry. It has chick peas, sweet potato, broccoli and carrots. All in a lovely silk curry sause. So many different textures and flavours that match and compliment each other. Another favourite is mashed potatoes with some mashed sweet potatoe in it too. Lovely!

Egad. Been consuming sweet potatoes most of my life. They make much tastier french fries than spuds (albeit a bit on the limp side). Quite yummy with malt vinegar. Makes for an outrageous meal of fish and chips. Question for Mr Oliver though: what about yams? They are very similar but are a different veggie altogether. Highly nutritious, they compare favorably with sweet potato on vitamins and minerals (far more potassium, a lot less sodium, but falls short on Vit-A and Beta-carotene). Also, what is the percentage of nutrients contained in the skin of a sweet potato as opposed to the pulp? Bonus: the skin of a sweet potato or yam is mega-tasty. No need to peel, just give it a righteous scrub. Neat factoid: potatoes are a member of the nightshade family while sweet potatoes are morning glories. Yams are a completely different tuber altogether.

sweetpotato muffins: cook 2 large sweet potatoes for 15-20 minutes or untill they become soft. Mush them. now put 2 cups of all purpose flour half a cup of brown sugar (you can also use regular sugar) 1 bag of baking soda some salt and cinamon in a bowl, now add the mushed potatooes in, and add rasins or choclate pieces to your preferance in and mix well. Put the dough in your muffin forms and bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 180° C or 350 ° F. Voilá
