You would be surprised on how many banger pitches and projects get cancelled I've followed a bunch of them over the years, always a few that take me by surprise so the conceptual Crash 5 being one of them isn't surprising. According to the DYKG video it got scrapped due to Activision higher ups getting cold feet over Crash 4 not reaching their lofty expectations which could've been prevented by being marketed better, in less of a crowded month and not at a higher price tag, also a lack of a Switch port at launch didn't help much either.

Because it's pretty much on paper. When you hear of the ideas behind a game and look at the concept art, there's a good chance that it sounds amazing. Then, if the project gets the greenlight, the development starts, the original concept starts facing the harsh reality of what can be done, things start changing, something gets readjusted, original ideas are dropped due to budget, technical issues or a simple creative decision... It's pretty much the actual game taking shape.

The fact that Toys For Bob went indie is enough proof just how much Activision isn't in control anymore.. especially since a lot of dev teams from ABK are forming their own unions (which Activision would try to bust said unions in order to hold a firmer grip.) And the first thing they might do is slow down CoD releases instead of doing 1 "new" CoD game every year, spread releases.. that way they won't need to pull support teams for tight deadlines and crunch.

Corporates never care about what the people want, their only priority is what’ll generate them the most revenue… which is ironic since they WOULD make lots of money if they’d give the fans what they want, as shown with the tremendous sales of the remakes. And I *guarantee* Crash 4 would’ve sold more had Activision marketed it better instead of revealing it a mere 3-4 months before its release. That, and not releasing it in the middle of a pandemic… which ended up hurting the physical sales. They should’ve gave it a few more months of development so it could’ve also coincided with Crash’s 25th anniversary and included all the content that got cut. But they obviously didn’t want to do that so they could instead push the developers into supporting future Call of Duty projects… What a shame.

I think ultimately the blame lies with these game dev execs making all these decisions, deciding to be so lip tight about everything nobody has a clear clue whats going on. As of right now, I think Spyro needs his time in the spotlight again anyway. Crash has already had three games since N Sane, while Spyro has only had Reignited and small cameos. I think it's a possibility that a reason it was cancelled is because they couldn't figure out how to build the gameplay. Should they focus on the linear platforming setup, or should they go with the free and open setup? Another thing is coming up with a fun villain for the plot. They are two very different worlds to bring together officially. Doing so would require a lot of careful planning to make it work.

Well, now Toys for Bob is a independient developer and they announce a collaboration with Microsoft maybe we could get the real Crash 5 or Spyro 4, as CGE said, thats not mean that we will never get another Crash game, is so common in this days to say Crash will be dead again because the media will be focus in that, this notice only shows that Activision only cares about Call of Duty and they will do anything to keep their FPS alive, is a miracle that Microsoft bought Activision in the end because if that doesnt happened Toys for Bob would be developing COD

To be honest, it seems both Microsoft and Activision see little value in Crash as Platformers sell poorly as Xbox exclusives (see Super Lucky's Tale and Blinx the Time Sweeper sales for reference) and Crash 4 was a financial disappointment respectively. If anything, we might see this project restarted as an entirely different IP and Kickstarted rather than published by Microsoft. The guy who said that Toys for Bob is looking forward to such a partnership with Microsoft was allegedly fired from the studio for "treason and covering up", possibly by being a lying kiss-ass.

I'm honestly unable to feel any rage or anger from hearing about Crash 5 being canned. It was likely a decision done well before the Microsoft merger and under Bobby's reign. I just feel emptiness about this, and all we can do for now is just hope that Spyro and Crash can get a second chance. (And I know people will say "But Activision doesn't care" and you're right.. But Microsoft does, and they probably aren't keen on letting these two icons die out because it won't make them money. If the Spyro 4 game isn't cancelled, then we still have a slight chance at a potential Crash and Spyro Crossover game... maybe not done by Toys for Bob, but so long as it is on the table and Microsoft sees the potential, then we'll have the platform duo back.)

It wouldn't be surprising if he wanted to bring back Spyro and Crash as well. It's really only up to the dev teams if they want to make a Crash/Spyro game or not.

I’d like to say even during crash’s lowest points after the series went on hiatus . Crash was never forgotten . During these times crash was still placing high on community polls , crash was still recongnized as one of the all time greats . It’s the reason the franchise when it came back sold all so well . Nsane trilogy sold 20 million copies , and was added on to game pass which gives crash even more exposure . If crash was a character people forgot about his return wouldint have been as crazy as it was and everyone would have known that . Crash needs to expand on his brand . The reason characters like Sonic can stay so relevant despite upsides in his franchise is that . Media , books , toys , movies . There’s so much potential you can have with crash and I’m sure they’ll fulfill it . And trust me as a huge Zelda fan . I’ve waited multiple years for a lot of these games so I’ve gotten used to it 😅crash is a big name in gaming , whether or not a new game comes out soon it’s a name in gaming that won’t ever truly be forgotten.

As someone who has been interested in seeing Spyro 4/Crash 5, I’m more eager to see development flourish as time goes on. To be straight forward, what would really make it worthwhile is if it can be carried over to the next project, even if it were to be small specks of its previous development. I’ve been making a series where Spyro is in it and has a place to shine in (Megatronic Legacy). My point is anyone-even a novice Spyro fan-has the capacity of promoting Spyro and Crash Bandicoot to the point of promoting productivity and support for the brands. That’s just my two cents in this subject.

So at this point we're all adults and while it's unfortunate a form of crash 5/crash and spyro has been cancelled, i can't see there being "mass hysteria". Let alone a need to "downplay" before confirming with the original sources as well as your own. 5:44 - But this is exactly why you got cooked online, man. Whatever ends up being released as Crash 5 in the future, it will effectively be a completely different title than what was canceled. It's not hard to admit that. The "Crash 5" that Toys for Bob worked on-unless they pick up that exact same project again-is canceled. It doesn't mean there won't be a Crash 5 in the future, it's just not going to be the same game. You denying that reality is like pretending Mark Cerny/Sony's take on the fourth mainline Crash game, "Crash Bandicoot Worlds" is the exact same game as "Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex". It's just not. The first one got canceled because Universal terminated Sony's exclusivity in favor of a publishing deal with Konami. The other was released and is a separate project, despite it taking a lot of inspiration from what was worked on on Cerny's game. They both serve the same purpose: be the fourth mainline game; but they're not the same "Crash 4". I hope that makes sense.

I expect a Crash 5 to take some (not all) elements from Twinsanity (both scrapped and used) some from Wrath of Cortex and some minor things from the mutant area with new ideas and returning some features from Crash 4 it’s about time. For Spyro I see them redoing/reworking/fixing the story line Spyro games tried to do after 3, for one explains how Ripto came back, linking him with Red, a Dragon elder who lost there way do to studying dark crystals and want to find a way to harness the power, but need a Magic score, using defeated villains like Ripto and Gnasty Gnorc due to there anger and grudges to prevent Spyro and other Dragons from hindering him. This is my example but I see them doing something like that but improving where pass games failed to continue Spyro Tale.

Honestly, this is fine. These franchises, after Crash 4, have been horribly mismanaged. First, we get a cell phone and a party game nobody asked for, then this stupid premature crossover game. They keep making what people are specifically not asking for. I'm all about a crossover game, but It's way too soon. Spyro deserves his own game, and Activision and Microsoft's complete lack of understanding his significance and fanbase makes me glad they are just deciding to not touch it. They just don't have a clue what to do with these characters. I love Crash and Spyro, but if all we get going forward are gimmicks, I'd rather just not.

I don't think Crash 5 or any Canon game should be linked to Spyro, because believe it or not the story in Crash bandicoot is still a factor to how you like it, that's a reason why people like Twinsanity the Story affects the levels and the joke's serve as clever ways for the story to continue and move you to another level with justification, and the Spyro gag was a one off and it would be hard to make non Spyro fans care about a full on game about a crossover other than for the gameplay changes but if they didn't like the Spyro gameplay it wouldn't be smart to make it THE Crash 5

A lot of the reason they cancelled crash 5 was between the poor sales of crash 4, even though activision and Toys for Bob came out this year with actual good sales for crash 4, and mostly wanting to create more live service multi-player games hence why they created crash team rumble and more focus on COD and why they're doing COD Black Ops 6 and more Apex like games.

I'm just gonna comment this. CGE. I've been watching your vids ever since the Spyro Reignited Trilogy days and you've been the person I always go to for new Crash and Spyro updates. However I'm not going to watch this video. Mainly due to the fact whenever something Crash or Spyro related pops up recently, it's usually over exaggerated and it sends both fanbases into a constant cycle of toxicity, rage and doubt. It's become too much to bare. I'm still as passionate as you and the rest of the people commenting on here about Crash and Spyro. But recently, it's become way too much for me to handle. So I'm taking a step back from news that's about either franchise and hope in silence that one day we'll get something new. Still, thank you for being a key member in the community to provide updates on both sides.
