On a positive note, it was probably the same amount of time as grinding the PR and I got three great ships as opposed to one inferior (to the Alaska) one.

To be fair, the most you could do to get Missouri without converting XP was to stack premium time, first win of the day, ESCL, PP, a 100% XP camo and maybe some random mission. Back then 2 kfXP from a game was pretty good going. With all the 'special' signals and crazy camos nowadays it is far easier to farm free XP. 20 kfXP in a single battle is far from unachievable. Alaska and Azuma were cakewalks.

One easy way to solve this mess. Remove the 30 day time limit and let us take however long is needed to get the PR. As it stands now, I'm just going to grab the free rewards and not spend a single euro to Wargaming.

And that way, it would actually be a gift, for free, from wargaming to all of there players, for sticking with them after all those years. You know, an incentive to stay a bit more actually, and play this game, rather than other games that we might play, for fun ;) (I'd love it if they did it so, even though, without any expense but the free installation to boost the construction, the ship would take 16.1 years to be constructed Earn 200 tokens, unlock the canteen (or whatever it's called, the second upgrade for the construction speed, the one that's not completely free) but could still be grabbed by a casual player that does not want to spend 6k doubloons on this, and it takes less than a year... I'd stick with them for a year more, if I could earn a T10 ships as a gift for this christmas.....

I walked away for six months because of the Benham grind and cost to buy. No ship is worth 200 plus dollars. I cam back because of the New Years event only to find this abomination. I am not spending a dime on crates or anything else. Enough disappointment and shady shit. Fuck the oligarchs.

Calbeck I have got to tier 10 in at least 6 lines, been playing since alpha, mostly just the ships I like (hence only 6 tier 10’s) and even I think I’d struggle here. After getting Nelson and Missouri I have only clawed my way back up to 230k free xp roughly. What’s that over, 4 years?!

I'm going to paraphrase what I read on a Reddit thread on the issue but now can't find because I hate the new Reddit. If I do find the original post I'll post it so you can read it as well. This event is not designed for anyone to get the Puerto Rico for free. Maybe some absolute Unicum player with no job, family, or sanity will, but that really isn’t the point. Wargaming wants you, the player, to become invested in the Puerto Rico. Not just as getting a tier X ship, but as an event, as a way to make you invested in completing this ship. As Jingles pointed out, Wargaming spent a whole lot of time and effort to create the dockyard, the ship, and to animate the parts and pieces as they're being integrated into the ship itself. It looks pretty and it feels amazing to watch the ship come together. Kudos to the people at WG who put this together and got it into the game, it's actually really cool. However it is still a hook to help get you emotionally invested into the this event. Players are going to want this ship, and they'll work to get the boosters through the time gated directives, and their time will become invested into getting the ship completed. The first 3 directives really aren't that difficult to complete, if you spend maybe 4-6 days on them you could reasonably do them in 3-4 hours or so a day. Not a terrible grind, but then you get to the fourth directive, and the fifth, and the sixth. And those aren't going to be completed easily or quickly unless you spend some serious time working on them. But you've put so much time already, or if you've bought the boosters, actual money is now also invested into the ship. Players aren't going to want to just up and abandon the effort/time/money you've put into it so far, they're going to want to have some sort of return on that investment. Players going to try to spend more time grinding the missions, but as was pointed out the missions were never designed to be completed by any reasonable human being. Players are going to be more willing to buy more of the boosters, trying to supplement the lack of points from the directives. Possibly not understanding that because of the front loaded way the event is designed, accumulating more of the boosters later in the event is going to significantly diminish the returns from these very expensive boosters. The event is coming to an end, and the players are realizing they don't have the points needed to complete the ship. The boosters are all bought up, but it's a drop in the bucket of what's needed. Ah, but WG has a solution. You can spend doubloons to finish the grind immediately. The sunk cost fallacy comes into effect. The player has spent a month of grinding attempting to get this ship. Time spent grinding during one of the biggest holidays in the world, tens of thousands of doubloons, and all that effort gets them is a few camos, some flags, and some crappy containers, but for the cost of thousands of doubloons, they can have the ship and all that effort won't be in vain. That's the end game for WG. They don't care about you getting the ship for free, you won't. It's technically possible, but the odds of any significant number of players getting the ship for free is minuscule. They want you to spend money to get the boosters, or spend money to get the ship. That's all they want. and now for my addendum: Honestly the idea of having to pay some doubloons to boost the research speed of the ship was never really an issue for me. The fact was I was never going to have enough time or the inclination to play the game enough to get it for free, even if the requirements were not as absolutely bonkers as they are. I don't think that's a minority opinion within the community either. Many of us have better things to do than try to grind the entirety WG's events, and we have paying jobs and enough disposable income we can afford to throw money into the game every once in a while if something catches our fancy. In other words we don't mind spending a bit of cash if we feel the reward is worth the investment. That being said, I don't like the way WG has pretty much come out to say, as IChase put it, "Grind like a slave or give us money." Because lets be real, the idea that any reasonable human being is going to be capable of getting the ship without spending money is laughable. I don't have a problem spending some money personally because I won't be able to complete the event, but doing so because of my own reasons versus being forced to because WG is being greedy as hell crosses a line.

I almost feel that they looked at the war thunder vehicle building event grinds and though of how they can do something similar. When you first get a glimpse of what it will be, it seems reasonable. Still a grind, but a possible one if you invest the time. Then it releases and it turns out to be something so outlandish that it's really just false advertising and you will need to spend money if you want the shiny new toy. The only difference here is Gaijin screws you over with RNG and Wargaming screws you with clear but near impossible tasks.

Considering that the entire year was a relative dumpster fire for WoWs, I genuinely thought the PR was going to be WG's way of apologizing and getting players who left the game back from little things such as the brilliantly executed CV rework, the perfectly balanced state of certain Russian ships, and the highly enjoyable ranked seasons. However, you must consider how 'spoiled' the WoWs community is now, how much stuff WoWs gives on a regular basis. Compare it to when ships were first released, where they had no directives, no rewards, hundreds of battles worth of grinding in order to get a t10. No armory with essentially free t10 premiums, etc. (I got Smolensk withen 4 months). WG has raised the community's standards so much, now they are trying to bring it down, on par with other games. But in the end, it still agree with this video. If you are trying to reduce the rewards, then come out clean about it. I was right there with you, I got to the point where I started wondering why I was even playing the game anymore. WG has pushed the game to a point where most ships that are fun to play are locked behind a pay wall or can only be obtained through special resources in their hyper aggressive loot boxes system (why didn't the insane gambling system tip me off earlier??? I really don't know) and I got to the point where I was spending money monthly on premium time to even progress at a reasonable rate and dropping $30 on CAMOS for my ships just to not lose money when I played matches with them! This event just made me reflect on how they took advantage of me and how much money I'm ashamed to have spent on this game. I could have bought so many better games and actually enjoy them, but I wasted that money on a digital gambling system masked as a 'game,' so I stopped playing the game overall.

I was looking forward to attempting this "event" for the Puerto Rico, until I looked ahead at the Directives, like you showed in your video. I have two ships at Tier VII, and no ships of Tier VIII or above. None of my ships are CVs, so I cannot complete the Directives, even if I played the game 24 hours per day, seven days a week. I have no plans to uninstall the game, but I do not being lied to by anyone. I do not believe you lied to me, or the community; that is all on WG's shoulders...they lied, by omission, to you and the other CC's. I will continue playing the game, collecting my "prizes" at login, and will most likely now start playing the lower-tier ships to remove the snowflakes from them, as well. Overall, I enjoyed participating in previous "Christmas/New Year" events and look forward to participating in future events. Wargaming has lost my financial support; if I cannot earn/unlock a ship during game-play, I will do without that ship, plain and simple. My checkbook and credit card are no longer available for Wargaming purchases; it is my money and under my control, and WG will never see another cent from me. Thank you for your insightful, humorous, and respectable, comments on the "Puerto Rico" event. Between you and iChaseGaming, I feel better about thinking I would not be able to complete the required Directives, and because of both of you, I have a better understanding of why I cannot complete the Directives.

Here I was thinking, "oh a dockyard available for EVERYONE, that we can grind for a tier 10 cruiser? That sounds nice. There is no WAY that I would hop in it, seeing I'm a casual at Tier 5, but it would be nice to work my way to it." But it is an event, meaning that it will eventually go away, aka no where NEAR possible for me. I have no money to spend on this game, so I'm not the 1% that can outright BUY the ship. AND some of the directives aren't even POSSIBLE to complete for being at Tier 5. I guess I shouldn't even bother with it. The Dockyard/PR isn't something achievable for myself and other casuals. I'll just keep with my regular weekly grind.

When I looked through the directives, I had similar thoughts. Many later stages are just purely ridiculous. I think I will now spend NO money on the PR at all. Someone on Reddit actually calculated that with the amount of EXP they ask you to grind, you can unlock 6 whole lines, from 1 to 10, with spare change. That's not counting the Free EXP grind

Probably not. I follow Pete Complete and he put hours and days into each 20-40 minute video. High quality content, produced by himself. Jingles is putting as much work into compiling most of the _daily_ videos, except he can use game captures from contributors, so he does have a lot more game footage to chose from. These, and the people who make actual music videos are the creators that put the most effort per minute of video. My point, if you are still with me, is that people ask for longer videos and unedited game footage. Thanks, but there are plenty of that around, why watch a three hour game play session when I can get the same content in 20 minutes efter editing? Much more work for the creator, but better value for me.

Seriously, this whole "Christmas event" could have been something nice and happy, if they had kept it on the small stuff. KEPT IT THERE. I am not in the 1%, I am a purely free player and still, I don't play _that_ much. I have played since the start, and I have just now unlocked my second T10 ship... and thank you, WG, the grind for the legendary module that I will likely not even use is enough. So, I won't get enough steel from the event to buy the smallest of ships. It won't even add enough coal to bring my existing stack to the level where I could buy one of the T10s. With coupon. Still, it is something that I can earn and that I will not lose. A gift. The containers... yes, they are nice. Again, I haven't had that much luck with containers... this years "Black Friday" gave me exactly the same number of these nice black ships as last years... zero. But the flags and camos... I got those. A gift. If I don't get too frustrated with the grind, I might even manage to make it to the Goriza. A free T7 ship... and the option for four T6s. That's something achivable. A gift... of sorts. But the PR? Heck, I'm not even that keen on the ship itself. Yes, a premium T10 would have been nice... but after that fantastic presentation, I wanted to see the event. See the ship build, see the advancement, see the success. But, hey, I'm not in the 1% and I don't spend money on the game. So not only no ship for me... no event for me as well. "Hey, look, shiny shiny thing. Big advertising. Christmas event. But not for you, sucker, ha ha." I like the game. I play it casually, and it is still keeping me hooked after I quit WoT. And I can understand that WG doesn't care as much about us freebies who populate the servers so that everyone will find an opponent to play against. But that was cheap, WG. Shame on you! Had you kept in on the small stuff, I would have liked it. But dangling such a price in front of us and then snatching it away... sorry, No Merry Christmas for you!

Somebody had a good idea: make the Dockyard a system where you "lay down" a free XP ship (so Nelson, Friesland, etc) or even a coal and steel ship. then as you collect resources you can put them into the dockyard to build the thing, and maybe it trickles slowly up by itself. I like that idea. It's a damn sight better than what we got anyway.

Just look at the toxic fallout (76 class) of the previous video today that should be a welcome return of "why you haf to be mad". I fell sorry for the Overlord, that so many salt mine inhabitants are incapable of thinking and typing at the same time. They changed the numbers of the event by a factor of 5 or more. Anyone can notice this, but some who do obviously assume that no one will be able to figure out that this was bad on their own but demand an instant Jingles intervention. I'd rather have Jingles stew on this a few days and make a more entertaining video on this dumpster fire instead of just reacting to snowflakes who did not get their expected Christmas presents.

Moment where Jingles says Gorizia makes it somewhat easier, it doesn't, the Gorizia specific tasks end when you unlock it. Go figure. All the other tasks are also insane to do in such a meh ship once you do unlock it.

How they could of made it easier is drop some of the requirements on the task. Also then allow it that previous uncompleted task on pervious directives could contribute to your current one. So if by a chance you got the Gorizia from completing directive list 3 you could do the task around that ship to completed future directive list. This would be allot more reasonable than what WG has giving players which is nothing more than a FU to most of them if not all but the few what they call Whales. Not leaving Ops out of most of them would of been nice as well. Base Xp would be easier for one since you can get at least 1000 base xp per operation when successfully completed. Still would mean you have to play 85 games for 85000 but it would be allot quicker than doing co-op with only getting a couple 100 at best.

I've been dealing with rapidly degrading personal shit at home the past few months, the sort that every family will have to deal with. I haven't been in the happiest of moods or really into the holiday spirit this year, and am mainly trying to get shopping and stuff done mainly out of obligation rather than holiday cheer. I've burned out on aggressive grinding with time limits... I just play the ships I like, when I feel like playing them. If, in the process, I get some crates, coal, steel, flags, signals, camouflage, premium ships, etc. thrown my way... YAY! If not, oh well... Not about to get caught up in the desperation of selling my soul to get an inferior U.S.S. Alaska for the price of a weekend at the beach.

Last year I did the grind for the Dreadnought, was down to one more day to complete, even though I was away over Xmas period, came back home to complete and missed it by one day because the day Wargaming said it finished (29th?), when I logged in that day the event had already finished. Pre Dreadnought event, I would buy premium time, doubloons and the odd ship. Post Dreadnought event, I have bought nothing, and only log into play when I'm inspired (by either a Jingles or Flambass videos). Got to wonder how many other players like me, will end up in the same boat with putting time, effort and money into obtaining the Puerto Rico only to miss out on getting it by a small margin.

I don't even think playing the game 24/7 will be enough. Just the free xp directives in directive 7 ALONE would probably take over 1,000 games on their own. That's 300+ games a day. Or about a game every 5 minutes. And this assumes that you are a 99%+ player that already has all the ships necessary and elite captains to go with them. Of course if you don't that's no big deal because this is the equivalent of playing enough games to grind something like 20 captains to 14 points from level zero. In three days of course.
