Such an excellent start to Season 2. Excellence is indeed beyond ones comfort zone and sometimes not beyond someone but within someone. Comes with practice, dedication and resilience. Brings to my mind the story of Arjun and Eklavya. Both were born with talents and strove for excellence in archery and Eklavya nearly reached it with sheer practice and no guru before being thwarted by Dronacharya to cut off his thumb. So excellence is indeed an act of charity- The one who acknowledges and uplifts excellence or such potential needs more grit and courage than maybe the one having it. Thank you professors, would be looking forward for more such bright discussions.

A very good discussion. Seeking excellence is Charity is a good point. In Bhagavad-Gita, chapter 3, verse 20 line 2 and verse 21 line 1 talk about this. ।3.21।। Do your duty as welfare too society or charity and what the superior operation does, those around him follow. So if one seeks excellence, those around him will benefit as they try to emulate him and that leads to welfare of the society. This is a limited interpretation to relate to the point in discussion. However the Nishkama Karma could not be related well, Nishkama Karma is beyond excellence and may be time is limited. Nishkama Karma can help you become excellent because it removes the result focus from the doer. Result orientedness, while a highly appreciated quality in corporates and at work, can start as a force to focus at early stages but can end up a distraction to excellence. Removing the result and self focusedness allows the doer towards excellence. The habit forming aspect can also be seen from "Thinking, Fast and Slow," Book by Daniel Kahneman. Once a habit is formed, it becomes a part of thinking fast, less effort but better result but not everything can be made a habit of should be made a habit because it limits you. Stop retaining the Thinking Slow part as an active element of Excellence is necessary. Objective analysis without totally relying only on past is critical to staying excellent. Overall a great topic. Thanks to both the Professors.
