Yes. The fact that a MEDICAL NECESSITY is deemed unessential is infuriating to me, and frankly pretty terrifying that any government could overstep like that.
@ThisGirlOnFiree4 жыл бұрын
@@andrewsld It's not deemed unessential. Molly goes over it in the video, but the reason they can't train guide dogs is because guide dogs need to be trained in crowded, busy, public spaces. And Mira specifically has their students travel to their school and stay with them for 4 weeks. There is no way to do that in COVID because the dogs cannot be trained in crowded, busy public spaces as people can't be crowding public spaces right now, and there's no safe way for students to travel to and stay at the school.

@@ThisGirlOnFiree I's researching the feasibility of a guest-service dog for OMS Japanese Christian (Walnut Creek, CA, USA), as we occasionally have mobility- and/or sensory-impaired guests, and a decision of Shepherd Council, OMS Holiness Church of North America, orders my project to lie on the table. To my knowledge, Mira Foundation hasn't any Asian breeds in Foundation history, and the Dewa-inu (after the Dewa Kennel of 岳彦陽三郎 Ito Yozaburo, 秋田県 Akita Ken, JPN) is the most compatible in size but of unknown compatibility of temperament for the mission. I'm already aware of problems adapting the 大日本犬 Ōyamato-inu (as the American Akita is officially named in the State of Japan) to guest service.

How awesome that you are a foster for Mira. If I were not so attached to The Seeing Eye, I would definitely apply there. I am super picky about where I go to get my guide dogs. Actually, the greedy girl and me would love to have both, one dog from Seeing Eye and another from Mira. My justification would be that my orientation and mobility skills are so horrible, I need two guide dogs. Somehow though, I don't think that would fly with either school because you have to have very good orientation and mobility skills to get a guide dog in the first place. Oh well. Just let me dream. I would just like to make something clear about Mira to avoid confusion. They have three solid programs: Guide dogs, Mobility help dogs and Autistic people support dogs. The training and classes for the support dogs are still on because it's the safest one and the waiting list for this program is awfully long. To the point they closed it. Just to avoid confusion since right now in the service dogs community any other type of them that are not Guide dogs are being forgotten and non respected unfortunately.

I love Gallop and would like to thank him for his service. He’s such a wonderful guide dog, a true trustworthy boy, & I’m so sorry the pandemic has effected you both so greatly. It has always warmed my heart to hear you speak about the freedom and independence being a guide dog user has brought you. I really have gained the highest respect for service animals since I started watching your videos a few years ago. I know it’s such an emotional time rn for many reasons, but I believe your series documenting the process of getting your new dog will be SO helpful, educational, AND entertaining. I’m looking forward to it and to the bright future of Molly Burke, the beautiful determined woman you are!

I know you are going through a lot right now Molly, on so many different aspects of your life. Just do your best day to day and eventually you will come through. Blessings to you and Gallop and your parents too, esp Mama Bee. A lot of people are here rooting for you and giving you support, even if you can not always feel it.
