And the fact that people generalize all of p4 fans like this is disingenuous. I’m someone who loves the cast of P4 more than any of the others in the series, and I’m just baffled by how much people spoil about it… it’s ridiculous… Even when I want to emulate it myself originally after trying the series for the first real time, I did get spoiled some on P4 specifically. Not 3, not 5, no just 4. Thankfully aside from the final boss spoiler which I was able to nudge away to the back of my mind, the spoiler memes on the true culprit I thought was just an inside joke at the time and not what it actually was… Just… why do P4 fans be like this?

Which is also kinda what you've been implying as well so that makes me really sad. I mean each group of Persona fans have their own unhinged qualities. For example, P3 fans are usually very hard to please and hold FES as the holy grail of the franchise and shoo away any criticism yet harshly criticise every other game in the franchise like they're a master game designer when it's probably just nostalgia talking, P3 FEMC fans believe playing as her is the only right way to play the game even if it's only probably because you can date Aki and Shinji and nothing else (I guess Wiping All out is also a plus in their favour) and so will go to any lengths to make sure as many people get to experience which will sometimes borderline on yandere-like harrasment, and finally a majority of P5 fans as usual still haven't even played the game despite the fact that Royal is so easily available now. But that won't stop them from knowing every little detail about the game's mechanics and knowing the best 100% first playthrough route by heart which leads to constant backseating when watching any streamer play the game. And these are just the basic ones. So you see, every Persona fandom is a different shade of unhinged and yet P4 fans still make the biggest fuss which just makes me ask WHY

I really hate the behavior of toxic fans in any kind of franchise, or media. It can make genuine fans lose the desire or passion of wanting to play a game, or watch a show or movie. I can understand wanting to help a streamer during their first playthrough of a game, but it's not that hard to only help when the streamer ASKS for it. Also, to not spoil no matter how big, small, or vague of a spoiler it is. Just enjoy their first playthrough and you never know, funny moments can only happen or have the strongest impact during a first time playthrough. At the end of it all, I can almost guarantee you if any of the toxic fans got spoiled, they would be so pissed off by it. Also, to drag your SPOUSE into it who wasn't / isn't involved in it was just a low move. Lack of the brain aside, contact the actual person you are wanting to message instead first, and if no reply received, or you get blocked (I know CyYu didn't block anyone) then just drop it man! I'm sorry for the wall of text, but as a fan of Persona 4 Golden and it being my entry into the series, it's really special to me and I want any new fans to enjoy it as much as they can. Either way, like I said as a fan of P4G, I'm sorry you and Hayden had to deal with this CyYu. I hope you can still find some enjoyment in your first playthrough of the game. -Spoiler Free (just in case anyone's worried) I honestly feel really bad about all of this stuff. Emailing someone's spouse to whine about not being able to spoil P4G is absolutely taking it way too far. P4G is probably my personal favorite game of all time since I played through it fully years ago, and I know well that the story is a mystery. So many fans wanna just openly talk about it because the twists of P4G are probably one of the worst kept secrets in any game period. I don't talk about any of these to anyone I know unless they have actually played the game. It's hard to be spoiler free on this game because of how toxic the Persona fan base can be. They will not hold back. Obviously, it's not bashing on the whole community, but it does happen a lot. It's honestly part of the reason why I am worried on if there ever was a Persona 4 remake in the same vain as P3R, because I feel like the spoilers would be unavoidable period for those that wanna enjoy it for the first time. Obviously, what is essentially harassing someone's spouse over a trivial thing like that only proves the point that sometimes people go way too far to just spoil. What fans usually want for any game is for them to play and learn about it, but harassment, spoiling, and targeting is really only gonna turn more people away, and some people need to realize that. Glad you have set your boundaries on this issue. I also never finished 4 because i just struggled getting invested in it and decided to put it down until i was in the mood to pick it up again, and the fanbase immediately turned me off to ever picking it up again. When i talk about how Shinji is my favorite p3 character all i get told is how much i will prefer Kanji or how he is so much better. When i talk about how i love the music or aesthetic from p5 it's always "well 4's is far superior. 5 is just trying to be 4." And it goes far beyond just spoiling, these people treat P4 like a religion and These motherfuckers will jump on you if you as much as insinuate that you might possibly be considering the theoretical idea that maybe you wanna say something critical about P4 and/or its characters, it’s fucking disgusting. For example, I put up a video a few days ago about Persona 4 that yesterday randomly started getting a shit ton of attention (for my channels standard at least) and people in that comment section got really defensive when I said I thought P4’s cast wasn’t as strong as the ones from 3 & 5. There was even 1 guy who left 4 separate comments who just assumed I hated the game (even though I never said that and simply just said I didn’t think it was as good as 3 & 5) and seemed to see the idea of making changes to the game to be complete and utter sacrilege… even though the whole point of the video was to talk about possible improvements that could be made in a P4 remake… So why they even clicked on the video in the first place is beyond me…

I’ve had run ins with toxic fans from ever persona fan base: P1 fans have the assholes who will jump on anyone who says anything good about the PSP version, P2 and P3 fans both have the super elitist motherfuckers, P4 fans have the dudes that treat it like a religion, and P5 fans have too many problems to even list. Plus I’m also a Sonic fan, a Wrestling fan, and a My Hero Academia fan, believe me I know my shit when it comes to toxic fanbases.

P3 is my most fav. Ppl said P5 has the worst fandom but I mostly encounter P4 fans more toxic than P5 because for some reason, some of them (not all) get triggered easily everytime I said P4 doesn't have the best characters (because I dislike some of the characters) 😅 while P5 fans, at least they accept opinions when ppl have complaint about P5. This is the 1st time I heard there would be P4 fan that will send threat e-mail. This is surprising & scary. Thank god the P4 fans I met aren't as bad as this. Also, it's funny that person said he won't reveal his identity due to privacy yet what's he's doing is invading Cy Yu & his spouse's privacy.

Oh lordy why do people have zero chill... One of the best things about watching someone either stream a game or thread about it elsewhere for the first time is, you know... getting to watch someone experience the same twists and stuff that you did when you played. At least this is certainly how I feel. It's fun to chatter with my partner about how we're looking forward to XYZ reveal happening so we can see how the streamer reacts. I certainly wish everyone the best with their gaming experiences.

persona 4, omori, and undertale. constant backseating and spoilers is so prevalent in these three games. markiplier couldn't play undertale because he played it like a regular rpg, what you're supposed to do. persona 4 is full of vague spoilers or straight up just dropping a bomb figuratively, and omori.. oh god. so many memes that are actually massive spoilers - in a similar case that persona 4 has. it sucks that you really can't enjoy games that i'd call some of the best stories and cast of characters when it comes to RPGs blindly anymore, just because of the community itself that claims to enjoy the games. it's like an odd form of gatekeeping of "i played this when it wasn't spoiled everywhere, it's kinda just your fault for playing it now ig. womp womp."

Yeah, I got spoiled on the ending (two of the endings, actually), but that was my own damn fault cuz I was watching a friend’s video that just so happened to include P4G spoilers. He even says to viewers that if they don’t wanna be spoiled, then skip that part of the video! But I didn’t skip cuz I was too curious for my own good. I still like P4G (even though some aspects of it haven’t aged well imho), but c’mon guys, there’s a reason the story falls into the mystery genre: WE’RE SUPPOSED TO FIGURE OUT WHODUNNIT OURSELVES!! I’m really thankful for my friend who introduced me to the series. She lent me her ps2 copy of Persona 4 and said “Take your time. The game expects you to replay it a couple of times to increase your stats. But if you want to speed up the grinding a bit, here’s a link to a spoiler free answer guide.” THAT’S IT!!! I feel like some of this was mostly misunderstanding? And I can see why he wants to stop it, a lot of good YTs and Twitch Streamers have fallen down dark paths… But that’s still not enough. 1.) He should have looked into it more instead of letting his anger get to him. If he simply read the tweet all the way through there is NO mention of blocking. 2.) He should NOT have messaged your partner. If anything he should have messaged you directly. It’s just absolutely impolite to go to someone else and talk about someone behind their back unless you are asking for HELP about the person, and even then that’s shaky territory. 3.) Someone’s account is someone’s account. They can do what they want with it, so long as they don’t act aggressive with it. You didn’t harass anyone directly and you didn’t block anyone for petty reasons like disagreeing with you, so in my book, quitting posting about something is fine. It seems that not only did you run into a nasty fanbase, you also encountered the general twitter user base, where it’s totally fine to harass a content creator for not sharing a view point, including people close to the content creator. Twitter is scary that way.

I don't remember the plot of 3 beyond "death is sad/scary" and 5 had a few twists, but 4 is almost entirely a whodunnit murder mystery, which, I would guess, is what leads to this weird, creepy insistence on spoiling things about it. You know how a little kid might think "I know something you don't know!" makes them a superior being? In a mystery story, the questions are constantly hovering overhead, so maybe it's that people who've seen the story and know the answers while still being conceited children at heart see the questions being posed and just can't resist the compulsion to go "OOH, I KNOW! ME, ME, I KNOW THE THINGS! LOOK AT ME! _ME!!_ " Not that it really matter what their reasons are, fuck the people that do this.

Someone spoiling a game for me that I plan on playing at some point takes the fun out of it for me. In that moment none of the twists and turns no longer are a surprise if someone tells me about them. The persona series are full of them. It sucks that people went ahead and did that on a tweet you made, vague or not a spoiler is still a spoiler. As for the email... the person is either a 3 year old with a keyboard or a grumpy teen who lost all their brain cells.

I avoid the Persona Fandom like a plague because of stuff like this. I love Persona 4 Golden so much, it's my favorite game of all time, but the fandom was so "Elitest" that it scared me off EVERY interacting with the Persona Fandom on a whole. People being mad about it getting a PC port because people will come up with personal theories that aren't the "Correct" theories, if you disagree with someone about their personal interpretation of something then you never REALLY played the game. Just. Never saw anything resembling polite discussion of the game.

I became a big fan of Persona since 5, loving 3 Reload, and I did try 4 Golden. And all are great. But yeah, some fans are just abysmal and that John one is just fucking crazy for doing this. Everyone should play and not learn about anything the game other than if others are liking it or not. Sorry that happened to ya Cy, and I hope you continue to have fun with your playthrough of it. And yeah, out of all Persona fans? 4 fans seem to be kinda one of the worst ones (at times, but not everytime) cause my god, I too have dealt with such annoying fans of it where they tried to spoil my own experience with some persona games, but I already knew about them cause either I played them too, or did a deep dive and learn everything about it beforehand.

I feel like the golden rule of any J/RPGs is that no matter how old a game is... NEVER Spoil any major plot. It's like the community should agree to never spoil anything major and older games still get this treatment. Xenoblade Chronicles? Don't spoil the mechon and Chapter 5 of Xenoblade 3 Persona 5 Royal? We don't even talk about third semester. Final Fantasy 7 Remake? Don't say the ACTUAL plot of the game. And it has gone on with Yakuza 7, Earthbound, Dragon Quest, and so many other games with heavy spoilers that I genuinely don't understand why people spoil. Hell, I've been holding back on talking about the third Semester to my friends because despite how MUCH I want to talk about the area, I don't want to spoil what happens in it.

I had the game spoiled thanks to blazblue cross tag not really giving much a good attempt to hide some part of the story. More noticeable in the expansion but somehow some like rwby’s side kept at minimal or to no spoilers at all.
