I think they'll get the mythasaur to defeat Gideon but Gideon will escape with Din, and the search for Din will be the focus of season 4.

Part of it could be Grogu might feel more part of the Mandalorian collective. He might believe "This is the way" and knows that they can and will rescue Djin. Where as attacking Giddeon right then and there or even killing him would put not just Djins life in more danger but also all the other Mandalorians there as well. Luke did try to teach Grogu to be less impulsive and maybe he's taking that teaching to heart.

@@jeffreycarman2185 Yeah but we don't know if that is still equipped on IG-11, he was heavily damaged and modified/altered when repaired. Also, Grogu is essentially still just a child, I don't know to many people who would give a child access to a welding torch :).

I think what people would like to see and why they get dusappointed with the writing of these shows is because they see shows like Andor, or like Breaking Bad, where there is no filler. No throwaway lines or scenes, not a single wasted moment or detail. Every episode builds on the last and is critical to understanding the next. Every single line, scene, action, scenario, etc. serves and advances the story. When your season is only 8 episodes, you kind of need this. Half of this season could be thrown away or ignored, and you wouldn't miss it. That's a problem.

This episode was excellent in what has been an underwhelming season. Mando at times has been a secondary character in comparison to Bo Katan. I was in the Lucasfilm panel at celebration and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Pedro Pascal was not there, we only saw a video message. In addition, Jeff Sneider confirmed recently the fall out between KK and John Favreau regarding Grogu’s return on the Book of Boba Fett. Something has been off about this show since Book of Boba Fett.

With the last episode I felt a lot similarities to house of the dragon and game of thrones, it hit me when Bo Kotan said that the mandalorians are too powerful for an enemy to defeat but it is always their own devision to destroy them. Same with the infighting within house Targaryen and that the only thing that can destroy it, is itself. That’s exactly what I kind of wanted, a deep dive into mandalores culture and showing the differences of each tribe and the hatred they have for each other in a complex way, however the writing of the mandalorian has unfortunately been far worse and unsophisticated in comparison to House of the dragon, kinda hoped after the end of las season with Grogu leaving we would get a more serious complex ongoing storyline but at last that wasn’t the case

They’re basically like the electro staffs from grievous’ guards which go toe to toe with lightsabers for cutting through things. Only a few mandalorians like din have pure beskar armor which resists lightsabers better the alloy version is not enough to stop a direct hit.

I thought Bo Katan couldn't get any more Mary Sue than at the end of episode 6 but then holy crap. She literally describes the least honorable thing any Mandalorian could ever do and then has Din come over and tell her how honorable and great she is. Disney went full Game of Thrones season 8

For me Paz' death didnt make me feel sad in the slightest. He was just standing there in the open too lazy to fly away while imperial troopers were flying in to stand in the open to get shot. It seems nobody in this show knows about the concept of "taking cover" or "retreating to a better position". For a culture of warriors that train all their life they sure can still learn a thing or two from the average paintball player.

I thought it was weird he didn't use his jetpack until I remembered Mandalorian jetpacks have been fragile as glass since 1983. I'm guessing Paz's jetpack got hit and became non functional.

And the scene before that isnt much better its just the imperials being braindead hovering in the air for a good chunk. Unless you mean the hallway section, in which case Din literally just runs at the imperials even though his (non-plot)armor also has plenty of holes.

Hey Thor ! What a surprise to see you've actually read my comment. And don't worry, you got it pretty much right for my job title. To be more precise, I work in animation as director/storyboarder/animator/compositor, so thinking of screwed up stories is part of my job ^^. Yeah, sorry, it was a long comment, but I've been following the whole show both onscreen and the offscreen dramas for all these years, and after combining them all with the culmination that was Star Wars celebration, those are the logical conclusions I got after all my observations. And trust me, I would like nothing more to be wrong on that one. But I'm less and less inclined to believe so. We'll see next week. Keep up the great work !

@@RonVining taking back Mandalore was always Bo-Katan's main quest, not Din's, it makes sense that Din is less front and center for this Season... but i want to eventually get back to the lone gunslinger Western atmosphere that is simply not present this Season, that is why it feels off. Why would Gideon take off his Helmet? Din is nothing to him... it's not like he wants to know Batman's secret identity, it is just some schmuck that never shows his face, like most of them. And he still wanted Bo-Katan to surrender, if he humiliates his prisoner in front of the others they will just be even more reluctant to accept surrender. He doesn't care one way or another, but everything Gideon does is strategic and in his own self interest.

Mando is THE person who broke onto his Star Destroyer, defeated him, took the Dark Saber from him and had him locked-up (temporarily)... Gideon would have taken off his helmet to shame him in front of his Clan. Remember, Gideon thought he had the Mandalorians cornered and was prepared to have them gunned down. He'd surly wanted to pain them, before killing them. Gotta follow the story, bro. As for Mando vs. Bo, S3 was NOT supposed to be her story, it was supposed to be Mando's. Boba got his own show after S2, had Pedro not pulled a no-show, Bo would have gotta a Book of Bo show.

They didn't pierce his beskar armor, they simply stabbed him in the gaps between the armor plates. They drop him to one knee by slicing behind the knee and then stab him in between the shoulder and his neck where there is no armor.

I love talking about Star Wars with my girl, she’s gone from a pretty casual viewer to a pretty hardcore fan for Star Wars thanks to my son’s newfound obsession with Din Djarin and Grogu. He’s been completely checked out this season except for the little bit of the pirate battle and this episode, my girl goes “wtf is up with their newfound pirate obsession 😂” and honestly I was just so happy to confirm that we’re truly seeing an adaptation of Heir To The Empire On the Gideon bit, as a huge fan of BB and BCS, having my son wanting action figures of Star Wars Gus Fring really makes realize how good Disney can be with casting. It really is the writing that makes the difference. Disney writing room aka Jon and Dave on the spice: “Okay we want a Star Wars Gus Fring. Wait we’re fucking Disney, just get Gus Fring.” Love the channel and I tune in every week to hear you and Naboo ❤

This episode had all the right ideas sure, but I’m not sure that good ideas make a good episode. Yes, all of the Mandalorian tribes coming together to take back Mandalore from the Imperial Remnant is a great idea, but if the execution of those ideas is rushed, it’s going to be a bad episode. Personally, I don’t think it’s possible for years of animosity between rival tribes to not have any issues other than one minor fight (let alone the Children of the Watch being totally fine when the Armorer says “it’s now okay for some Mandalorians to take off their masks”), I don’t think it’s possible that anyone would be totally fine following Bo Katan after she admitted that she gave them up to the Empire, and I don’t think Din Djarin would suddenly up and pledge himself to someone who he barely knows. Perhaps most egregious of all was how no one initially wanted to be on the scouting team to Mandalore. The group of people who show no fear and who have idolized their ancestral homeland don’t want to have the honor of being the first ones to reclaim Mandalore? No amount of good overarching plot ideas (even things as cool as the Shadow Council and Moff Gideons plan) can overcome such blatant misunderstanding of characters, motivations, and progression.

What people aren’t mentioning is that pas Vizsla could’ve used his jet pack to get away from those guards, but he didn’t. He could’ve picked up a dead troopers weapon, but he didn’t. If you look at the fight again, you will notice that the guards weapons went deliberately in between his arm and torso, and in between his backpack. yo, was thinking they were going between the armor. His death was faked.

The “Descriptive Audio” track answers a lot questions raised in the comments, as well as shoot down half the criticisms. For example, the narrator tells you that the Praetorian Guards stab Vizsla in the exposed weak points in his armor.

I loved this episode! I loved the sheer _scale_ of it, all the things we saw in fifty minutes. The Mandalorians reunited! Grogu gets a robot suit! The feast of the Mandos! (Nevarro has giant carnivorous birds, too. So maybe they just hunted down a few of the locals.) Grogu does something significant! (Grogu's come a long way from when he force choked Cara Dune for hurting Din. He actually understood what was happening here and felt the need to stop it.) Mandolorian survivors with an epic Mad Max style wind boat! A giant freaking KAIJU that was not a mythosaur! (This planet is gonna be a hell of a place to resettle, but their culture loves challenges.) And a huge battle at Moff Gideon's secret base! There were so many people and so much on screen, it really felt epic. If anything it was the rest of the season that felt a bit small. Like the fleet we just met in the previous episode is now the fleet in danger at the end of this one. If the Armorer wasn't onboard we might not feel a proper sense of the stakes involved. RIP Paz Vizsla. Looking back, they built him up this season because he was going to die heroically. And boy, he sure took out a ton of beskar armored Storm Troopers. I was really hoping he'd take one of the Praetorians with him, like the guy he had by the neck. But alas. He was a model Mandalorian, though. Will Din die? I doubt it. But I haven't minded the focus on Bo-Katan in this season. Bo is no Reva. She's been around longer than Din and her history makes her fascinating. I was really interested in her story about how she did surrender, but Gideon scourged Mandalore anyway. It explains how he got the darksaber, but I suspect there's a fighting retreat hidden within her story that she didn't mention. Surely he'd try to kill her and her soldiers after disarming them. Anyway, the shift in focus doesn't bother me. It'll probably shift back to Din when this story is concluded.

He may have been lying, but Gideon did say he was done with Grogu after sampling his blood. I would watch a Grogu/Carga spin-off, something like "Fresh Prince of Navarro"

Also the armorer in the last season mentioned beaker weapons couldn’t be made because they were dangerous and able to pierce beaker armor. I assume since they now have heavy supply of beskar the imperials also implemented it into the guards weapons

General comment about the season: does no planet have any sort of perimeter defense / observation system? How many times have people been completely surprised by planetary visitors (pirates, mandalorians, imperials)? Why is it a complete surprise to the survivors on Mandalore that there's a whole Imperial base? They've never seen a ship come or go? Why do the residents of Nevarro have no warning system in place? They don't know about the pirates or the mandalorians until they are right on top of them.

I think a plausible answer for as to why Giddeon took Djin instead of Grogu was that the last time Giddeon saw Grogu was when he was being saved by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. He might be hesitant to flat out attack Grogu until he knows more about what Luke had taught Grogu. This way he could draw Grogu out of hiding and basically say "no matter what you learned come with us peacefully or else Daddy Djin gets spaced"

After seeing Grogu in S2 finale toss Gideons soldiers around and use choke holds, why didn't Grogu attempt to use the force to rip apart the door? or crush Gideon? or fly toss soldiers off the ledge to save Din? Why didn't Din yell out to Bo to "take care of the kid" like he's done over and over to others when he was in a bad situation? And after Paz's kick ass fighting scene defeating Gideons soldiers why didn't Paz Vizla jet pack out the ceiling hole when he saw the three Praetorian guards walking towards him?

16:45 Rey had been trained (or was an autodidact) on that Magnaguard staff she carried around at the beginning of The Force Awakens. There is a force ability called Battle Meditation that allows a single force user to help guide the actions of troops and ship crews. Maybe, because Rey was so strong with The Force she was able intuitively do some sort of reverse battle meditation, or Protection Bubble. Together with prevision (or whatever the name of the ability for Jedi to see the immediate future) Rey could be a formidable fighter.

the birds at the feast weren't the foundling birds but the species of bird that hurt Greef Karga in the first season. Grogu healed Karga after the bird attacked him. the beak shape was different.

This episode was pretty good, but some of the things at the end were to convenient (Bo not using the Dark Saber in the fight at all, and not cutting a hole in the door until Din was captured. Din not using whistling birds). It feels more contrived than I want it to be. I’ve enjoyed the Mandalorian up until this season. Now I’m having some doubts. I hope they don’t mess this up.

I noticed something about the Pretorian Guards. They're slow fighters that go for the gaps in armor, using their weapons to incapacitate while one goes for the kill. Maybe thats why Rey and Kylo killed them so easily, they were fighting fast, un-armored force users, not slow, bulky mandalorians. They're almost like the Saurdukar from Dune.

Giving Grogu the IG-12 suit is the best thing for his character development. Up to this point, he has not had much of a personality aside from being a cute baby. The scene where Grogu breaks up the fight between the two Mandoloriens as he's pressing the "no" button shows that he's a peacekeeper. I wish that this episode was earlier in the season.

17:24 one thing I don’t really understand about The Pretorian Guard is, why they don’t just have lightsabers. It’s not like the Empire had a shortage of stollen lightsabers after Order 66. I know The Empire made a big show of destroying a lot of the lightsabers, but they could easily have save six or eight for elite fighters who weren’t force sensitive. It’s likely that The Empire, with their anti-Jedi sensibility, went out of their way to _not_ have lightsabers, but for a few top-secret supersoldiers: they should just give them lightsabers.

Great episode, that mostly makes up for the couple of duds earlier. Liked the shadow council's internal divisions and finding out more about Bo in the in-between era. Beskar stormtroopers were cool along with Gideon's finished suit. The Praetorians were very capable now, but that Episode 8 fight scene still exists. Their fight scene in TLJ was the worst choreographed fight I remember seeing, I thought that on first (only) viewing, they get Rey and Kylo in positions where they can do whatever they want to them and then just stop and let themselves be killed. Gideon saying Beskar was perfected because he is in it seemed a bit out of character, but we do know very little about him, so. I like the way the TIE Interceptors hang from the ceiling, it makes up for the fact they are 50% longer than the TIE Fighter and makes them look like bats. I will have to check now but I thought Lieutenant Kane died in the Mandalorian S2 finale and Captain Paelleon in the Rebels series finale.

In my mind, grogu being a "voiceless" character indefinitely works for me. It adds to his mystique. I like the idea of him basically communicating via a droid "translator" (like lowbacca and M-TD in legends) and occasionally using direct telepathy, which would appear as subtitles onscreen

I feel it's going to be the Armorer. After I saw Gideon's new helmet with the horns, my suspicion was aroused. Plus he knew the Mandolorians had brought their entire fleet to the planet, even though the atmosphere prohibits communication beyond ground and space. And she conveniently returned to the fleet with 'injured' survivors. Who I suspect are also spies. Final episode I hope reveals all

If they had wanted to show that the Praetorian weapons could pierce beskar, it would have been inarguably obvious- a stab through the middle of the chest or something. All the stabs seen on screen, on the other hand, are on the 'periphery' of the armor, near exposed joints and under plates. Perhaps it was poor and confusing sfx, but we've been given no reason to believe that these weapons need to beat beskar for the Praetorians to be a threat, and there was no hint in the dialogue that they had, wanted, or needed anti-beskar swords, and it doesn't really follow that these things would do the job after we've seen Beskar beat lightsabers on-screen multiple times. I wouldn't necessarily put it past this writing team to throw something like that in there without priming the pump, but with all the other angles they're playing which rely on the invulnerability of Beskar, it would be odd to say the least.
