LOL, you had the same experience I had with the bypass tube. The harmonic balancer bolt was pretty easy for me too. One thing I did that would be a good idea for anyone doing this job, when I put the flywheel lock tool in place I took the inspection cover and taped it to the steering wheel to remind me to pull the tool before I started the engine.

Thanks for all the info. Since I'm doing major work on mine, radiator was out so I just zipped my harmonic balancer bolt out with my impact. The bypass pipe came right out for me too.

When I was looking at waterpump videos a year or two ago, I picked up a neat trick for that bypass tube. Instead of using the oring that is made for it, you can use injector cup orings since the rubber is a bit more robust and you get a bunch of them if you do get too rough with it. Credit goes to Merchant for advising on it. Definitely get that heater hose connector...that plastic oem is no bueno.

Been installed like that since nov 2021 without a leak. Slopped some vasoline on it and installed it. I didn’t encounter a struggle like you apparently did.

I know this is old but what did you tq the studs too, on the lower water hose outlet. I can’t find that info anywhere

You should check out the ppe stainless steel heater hose connector, so you don’t have to worry about the plastic ones. They are awesome!

I sprayed WD40 up into the top of the water pump bypass and the O ring let go easily😉

advance auto has tool to borrow. no cost. jsut a credit card on file in case you break it or don't bring it back

Takes 15mins to pull rad and intercooler. Then pop that bolt with an impact. No issues.

Back up breaker bar on alternator and tap the key no need for buy extra tools
