Tone is made to be a camper and unlike northstar she can put a temporary shield that blocks almost all projectiles, and if they lock on you they’ll just shoot they’re rockets up so they hit you even if your behind an object, maybe it’s also because she had a reputation of being “that” titan that WAS annoying to deal with but that’s just my opinion, what do you think @IniquityGanes

*The Flying Tea Cup would like to know your location.* In all seriousness tho, I think people dislike Tone either because 1. they grew up doing it because they're a veteran, 2. newer people got caught up in all the anti-Tone memery on Reddit, or 3. she's just not very interesting to play against. All Tone players use the same strategy with little variation. Put up wall, attack with 3 shots and a rocket salvo, repeat. Push past their wall and they'll either panic or delete you with a core. It's just not that interesting, and often annoying when you get hit with rockets around cover.

She has a very distinct rhythm that I agree is very easy to counter for most of not all Titans. There are exceptions and I have come across some very skilled Tone players but for the most part she’s just easy to use

Anyone who camps as tone is the equivalent to a spitfire camper. I think it’s fine if you run around and go on a rampage but camping in a game like titanfall is so dumb

@@JP-hr3xq well it kind of depends. If there are no other Titans around you don’t really have to camp you can just run around and kill grunts and pilots. Personally I can fight with monarch before even getting a core and I’ll use the core midfight for shields. You don’t have to camp with monarch but some people are forced to by the idea of its play style

I used to be a Tone main. Before you ridicule me, allow me to explain how I changed: After I began getting involved within the Titanfall 2 community, I started to realize that this Titan is not exactly “liked” within the community. At the time, I thought that Tone was a cool Titan because it does lots of damage super quick. That’s it. I was a zombie that did exactly what you said: Boom, boom, boom, rockets, repeat. Later down the line, I grew tired of the non-strategic play style and forced myself to play another Titan. I chose Northstar, because flying is cool. As I began to play, realized how overpowered and annoying a Tone is. Now, a Northstar main, I only whip out Tone when I absolutely have to.

I think that tone is really good at fighting enemies out in the open and dealing damage while staying safe, but there are 2 major problems with tone that keep her from being a great titan. First thing is that if an enemy titan that isn't point blank can take cover behind something, her tracking rockets go from awesome to useless; as soon as they see the rockets coming they step behind their cover and tone's main source of damage goes piff against a wall. The 40mm cannon doesn't do very good damage, so they can basically just keep firing at you until they see the rockets, duck away for a second, then start shooting again. The second thing is that tone's kit is countered by most other titans in the game: Ronin can sword block the rockets, arc wave the particle wall, and phase dash to break a lock-on. Ion feels practically unwinnable, since she can just fire away at you and then stop to yeet your own rockets back in your face. Northstars can definitely die if you catch them out in the open, but oftentimes you'll get into a long-range fight where they can easily take cover from your rockets while dealing massive damage with the railgun. Scorch isn't exactly a counter, but can use flame shield to shut down rocket damage so the fight turns into a stalemate until a teammate shows up (or until tone gets cornered and papa cooks some dinner). The legion matchup is sort of the same situation as scorch, and one of tone's better matchups - gun shield can tank the rockets and make lock ons harder, and can SHRED a tone without particle wall if she can't find cover quick enough, but a tone in cover can peek out just enough to get lock ons and fire rockets around the corner for relatively safe damage. The tone mirror match can be kind of silly with both particle walls going up, but is at least a fair fight. Monarch feels like one of tone's only winning matchups, which is kind of ironic since monarch is pretty consistently rated as one of the top two titans in the game. Monarch doesn't have any abilities that can shut down tone's kit so tone can just plink away at a monarch until they die. This all on top of the fact that if an enemy titan is close enough to you, they can just walk through your particle wall and then shoot you. Overall, I think that tone is good at taking fights with enemy titans out in the open, where they can't take cover from her rockets, although their defensive abilities can often keep the other titans relatively safe. I've had success with playing tone as a kind of flanker, where I try to sandwich the enemies between my team and me behind a particle wall, so they can't just turn around and kill me but taking cover from me means being shot by my team. I definitely don't think that tone is overpowered, given her unimpressive list of matchups, but definitely a ton of fun to pull off a good play with. Here's a tip for anyone that took the time to read through this whole thing - drop electric smoke and use sonar to see through it to get a budget particle wall. Take counter ready for more wallhacking goodness. Oh and pilots don't count. The only way for a pilot to fight a tone is to be 90% in cover while shooting, or hope the tone has bad aim. Cover doesn’t really do much as an experienced tone can just fire the rockets up or at an angle to go around the cover. Another thing though is that good pilots know how to dodge the rockets with precise timing on a dash.

@@mythrillmeyhem8998 Yeah angling rockets is a really useful trick, though a lot of the time the enemy titan is too far away to get a good angle, or behind cover tall/wide enough for it to not work. And you make a good point, dashing is a universal way to avoid tracking rocket damage.

Once you get good with other titans like ion, ronin, northstar, monarch, etc they’re all wayy easier to do really good with. been grinding out all the titans to g.10 to get all camos unlocked and tones been annoying me to use. I always know I’d be doing way better with anyone else (almost)

Honestly, Ronin is pretty broken and nobody talking about it. He counters many Titans including tone. The sword block is just too good. I understand that he only has 3 bars of health but the fact that there isn’t a cool down on it is crazy. Couple that with the most mobility is insane.

I wouldn't say he's OP, IMO Ronin just has a very high skill ceiling. Its definitely POSSIBLE for Ronin to counter every titan but it takes serious skill to do so, due to the fact that most titans can tear thru his health extremely quickly. Just my opinion though

As a double dash Ion main, Tone is a non threat. I’ve got too much time with Ion. Tips for Tone players: Don’t instantly fire rockets after getting a lock on an Ion. If they catch your rockets don’t rely on the particle shield, it won’t survive the salvo. Keep firing your gun if they pull out the vortex. Try to block the 40mm with the wall and then fire rockets. If it’s a really good Ion there really isn’t much you can do if you don’t have your core. Just try to get them to use up all their energy, then fire rockets. But a good ion will always leave enough energy for the rockets.

Well, the problem with tone, is that she's a titan that can handle almost every situation, long distance battle, medium range too, she has a shield, and can lock rockets constantly, 3 titans lock are a bunch of rockets, plus her core are all homing ones too. She's extremely easy to use, and in good hands it can really be a bother. I don't think she's OP as before, but she's still good in almost every case, plus she has a sonar lock too

I feel like Tone's kit is just the easiest to use. But that's a good thing, considering new players may be overwhelmed by the game; having a titan they can rely on while they learn the pilot movement is detrimental to player retention. That being said, really good Tones can be a rough thing to deal with; but that statement can be applied to all titans. She is in a really good place, her kit is just really synergistic.

There's a lot of counters to tones locks within the game and although her partical wall is annoying pushing it often will cause them to panic. I just think her kit is the easiest to learn out of any titan, and gets huge value for every part of her kit.

Tone is my most used Titan, next to ION. Old Ion was super OP, so when he was nerfed, I used tone a lot more. Tone is wonderfully balanced. You can be aggressive or a support player with tone. I play all the Titans, but tone is just the god tier Titan for me.

I really think it's just because Tone vs pilot. Because most titans can handle tone decently (except Northy, she struggkes a bit), but the splash damage/instant kill 40 mm is just so strong against pilots compared to other guns like T203, Plasma Railgun, XO-19 and Predator Canon. But it is also partly because there's not a lot of Titanfall channels saying Tone is fine. Only veteran channels who made "Tone is busted" videos back in the day.

Direct hits dont even always land you a marker. The splash damage is unreliable for markers. Players will easily dip behind corners to block in coming rockets. Even went sent skyward for a high angle of attack. I mean she can be powerful. I find I really only do well when I have support from a legion or a ronin.

Its just the Tone doesnt really have a disadvantage you can use. 1. its damage output is basically unchanged by distance short or long 2. Its Wall has a way to short cooldown so you can basically block an entrance and be safe from all angles so the enemy has to rush the Tone, (Bless Ronins) also its very tall I mean shouldnt the northsars ability be a perfect counter for this? But it cant. 3. I had games where the Tone Blocked the Entrance And stalled 3 Titans Because it would drop a Shield one after another and dodge behind cover everytime I catched his rockets with ion. In my Opinion I just wish the Wall cooldown was just longer.

Tone is my main. Purely a support mech. Can barely do anything on her own. Easily killed. Mid health. Ronin is my nemisises. The phase shift breaks all locks. Players anticipate missile locks and just use their shields or dodge. Very challenging to play tone well

I think Tone is fine, she has several counters and can play well against experienced players. Monarch is able to destroy her wall with extended missile racks, Ion can catch them, and Ronin is obvious. I think Tone can be extremely deadly with a good player and a joke with a bad player. Look at NickTheSailor, probably the best Tone player out there.

I play scorch most of times and I have absolutely no problem dealing with tones because all you have to do against tone is just keep her away from her particle wall and count the numbers of times that you got hit by her to be able to block her tracking missiles and for the new players if you get shot 3 times by tone automatically get ready to put up your shield because you’re locked on and if she puts down her sonar pulse and you get spotted that automatically counts as one hit witch means she only has to hit you twice before she can shoot her missiles

As a scorch main I get hard countered by distance so if I see a tone far away I turn and go the other way but if it’s up close I just have to time the flame shield with the missile (so every three shots I pull it up) and her dps goes down the drain.

I think you can see the problems when you compare her to scorch. Have one hit pilot weapons but tone has higher fire rate, they both have high health but tones is in a shield, they both have high damage but tones is easier to hit.

I used to exclusively play tone (G 7 or sumthn compared to G 0 on everything else lmao :P) but then one day I was like "I wonder what the other titans are like" and I haven't gone back. Her kit is kind of dull, there's not much variety in what you can do with her, and she's kind of underpowered. It's easy to dodge/block her rockets and that's kind of the only damage she can do. The tracker is good against pilots but not as good as people think imo.

Tone is in a good place. Shes hard countered by Ion, who has laser shot, and vortex shield that can catch her shells, and missiles if you count how many locks she has on you, ronin, who can disable her particle shield with a single arc wave and can close the distance quickly, and northstar, if tone doesnt have the kit that buffs her wall. It's best to flank tone while shes fighting your teamates, and is less of a threat up close. She can miss a lot of shots and still kill pilots in one hit, but that's because she needs that mag of 12 to deal decent damage and get locks on titans.

I feel like tone is definitely underpowered against titans in most situations she's good against scorch+legion (even then she melts at close range from scorch) but she gets out damaged at range by Northstar, and she is invalidate by ronin and ion, but I definitely think she is the best against pilots even Ronin has a limited clip and range, tone can one shot you on the other side of the map and can fire again almost instantly if she misses and It's aoe so you can't even hide around a corner, not to mention that if you hide she can Pulse blade and instantly find you, or completely invalidate any possible pilot damage with the wall. I think if they made it less accurate at long range and toned (pun intended) down the splash damage v pilots a bunch and maybe a slight nerf to fire rate would be great, I also think they should buff the 40 mil vs titans thought make it a actual choice to use if rockets are not (eg a good ion player almost never gets hit) viable because currently that is her only damage source unlike every other titan she needs options.

Cluster missile their camp spot before they drop their shield, wait for the shield to drop, charge the shot, land them and Dodge behind cover. Don't just head glitch though, try to fly and reposition givin your circumstances. If they are close enough, through a tether at them or towards their alternate path. Just gotta flick your shots and be quick. Also, double tapping is proficient too (one full charge shot, a short charge shot to follow, then reload of out of sight). Overall, read the patterns and trick their rockets.

the wall gives her a lot of leeway. Bricky made a titan tier list recently and in it i think he summed up tone perfectly (i think you made this evaluation at some point too) when the particle wall goes up you're playing tones game. Unless you have the specific titan to deal with her at the range shes set up you're going to take damage as you try to rush her while she builds core of you or you're going to retreat,get shot in the ass and leave her to demolish your pilot population with her splash damage sniper. I dont mind her so much as a norfstaw main unless i literally bump into her in a hallway on complex or crash site i can more or less handle all her kit but playing other titans (scorch and monarch especially) shes just not fun to even try and beat. Hell i saw a gen 100 using tone calling everyone on my team noobs that alone puts a sour taste in my mouth. Even despite all that she is still leagues better than where she was 3 years ago and i wont ever shit talk another player for using what works

As a scorch/monarch main, I think her wall is busted. Her core can really screw you over as monarch, and as scorch it drains the shit out of your wall. With scorch you just gotta yolo it with your shield up, or try to bounce you flames and traps off of nearby walls. As monarch, if you see a tone with a good spot, your health is gone like a magic trick, and you cant do anything except for cry as you hopelessly fire a Missile salvo next to the wall in hopes it will hit the tone's feet.

I really enjoy Tone. I like being fast as a Pilot and then switching to a slower but more damaging playstyle as titan

I haven't played titanfall 2 in a year, but it was the same reason as Monarch. They are just the cheesiest and easiest titans to use. You don't need to be good with them to do very well in titan v titan and they make killing pilots SUPER easy. Something like Northstar or Ronin means you can't run into a gun fight guns blasting as you are too weak. Legion and scorch mean you can't quickly move around and hunt down pilots or even titans that are across the map.

Tone having splash damage is why it is OP. It can fire quickly with splash damage. If it only shot as fast as scorch it would be about right.

Tone is better against slower pilots, new pilots tend to be slower. She is the best at being offensive and defensive at the same time, due to the particle wall. If you don't know how to deal with that it can feel oppressive, especially if she's not the only Titan behind the wall. That said, I don't think she's overpowered anymore. The nerfs put her in a good place, maybe even a bit weak if you ask me. Her kit requires so much commitment that the wall is necessary, it's time is limited and it's pretty easy to play around with most Titans. Tone was my first main, back in the day when the Volt was OP. They are both still my babies, even after the nerfs. Now I'm rocking Ronin and Northstar the most because I like to go fast even in my Titans, and I've been falling in love with the Eva 8 these days. Gosh the nostalgia, so many things were stronger than they are now: Tone, Volt, Devotion, Eva, Hemlock, G2, Longbow, Wingman, Phase Shift, Invisibility, even the Wingman Elite and Mozam-bazooka were sidearms.

For me as a scorch main the only issue is I cant approach tone without loosing at least 2 batteries of helath or using my entire flame shield and even then tone can just walk backward and abandon the shield

@@killercan4394 that’s true. I just think the biggest issue is when first drop is a monarch and she can just farm core with the chain gun and rockets so by the time the other team drops Titans she is already on first or second core.

Tone is an ok titan to start out with. The reason she is so hated is because her primary weapon hots really fucking hard. Instant kill pilot's and is very accurate. Not only that but you can out damage a ronin, ion and scorch without using the rockets, the rockets can be used as an opportunity for more damage. Then if you rely on the rockets you can look up and spin around so they can hit titans that have taken cover, its pretty much inevitable damage. Also her primary has splash damage which makes it a faster and more annoying cluster missile from northstar, and when you play northstar or monarch and you see a tone and you cant rush or get away, you just eat shit and die.

I take playing against a tone over the one time in the games life where 5/6 titans are Ions sniping and playing up close with insane damage like nobody's business without any drawbacks.

Tone is a good Titan, I will not deny that, in my own experience with her I learned that you can win some Gunfights against Legion, Northstar and Monarch (sometimes) if you push and with the Ion it is more advisable to hit more than shoot, but the Tone is very OP in Frontier Defense.

Okay, I’ve been a TF2 veteran for years. Haven’t played the game as much until lately, but I can say: As an Ion main, I rarely have issues with any Titan; much less her big sister. Tone seems to be wayyyy better than she was(fairness wise) but she does suffer from a very..narrow playbook IMO. A great Tone can do a lot but they also probably do a lot of the things you see from casual Tones so you can counter usually. Anyway, this community is as Iniquity says; F*n DOPE. The 40mm tracker cannon is one of the most annoying things to deal with as a pilot, but from a titan perspective I think ronin is so much more scary. Obviously someone who doesn’t know how to use ronin just gets shredded, but there’s not much you can do if they catch you with your pants down. Salvo core is pretty damn powerful, but honestly I think flame core is more potent.

Something I've noticed: The community seems to have gotten a lot more toxic with the influx of new players. I see a lot of people complaining about just about everything. I've seen people bashing other players for using Tone, the Mastiff, SMGs, the EPG, EVO. I think that's just the price a game pays for being popular. Can you think of a single popular game with a chill fanbase? I think toxicity and complaining may be an unfortunate by-product of the audience being widened beyond just a core fanbase of friendly fans.

I'm a new, and very bad player, but I really like Tone and Northstar both. I don't feel like she's very hard to play against either and ya it sucks to get one shot but there are more annoying Titans to go against. She was the first Titan I picked up and my comfort pick right now, I feel like I can actually go against multiple Titans and stand a chance. I've been getting more aggressive with her as well which feels amazing.

Glad to see all these youtube vids coming daily. As I said when I was part of one your stream's, I think Tone is fine. She's not OP, not underpowered. I think she's the most annoying to face as legion though. If she hides behind the particle wall, you have to trudge past it (which takes forever) or waste all your ammo destroying it. Plus, you really one have one chance to block one of her missile barrages with your gun shield. After that, you're basically walking core charge for her. In every other titan though, I've never had a problem against her. My advice to any new players having trouble countering her: play as her for a little bit. That always lets you know where the weaknesses lie.

Kinda late to this discussion but a year ago I bought the game and enjoy it so much, tone in my opinion is absolutely nasty. Not the heaviest damage but I can easily kill Titans if I have teammate titans with me and I can easily snipe people who eject out of the air. I currently switched to Ronin and I am really liking him so far.

Tone is built for killing heavy titans, she punishes slow movement with her tracking missiles and emphasis on range and her wall protects her from damage long enough to keep the heavies from retaliating before she can get damage in. She mainly has trouble with Ronin and Monarch as they can easily close the distance with phase walk and constant boost respectively. Her core is also better against slower Titans who have a harder time dodging the salvo. As far as why exactly most people seem to hate her it might be because in order to defeat her you have to constantly dodge and her missiles and range make it a real pain to punish her when she's got you at any range but melee.

I love tone. I just feel so dirty everytime I embark. Splash damage and wall hacks are so much fun tbh. But tone mains are scum.
