Bering 77 is my favorite. I love that it has a steel hull then coated and faired and primed and painted. Gotta be one of the strongest and most detail oriented expedition trawlers out there.

Wow, guys! Great choice for an interview? Good snag! I have SUCH respect for Jeff. I’m still shopping. I’m looking at a 35 yr old Ed Monk designed 42’ this weekend. I also grew up with racing dingy’s - specifically an 11’ Moth scow! Then a couple of 24’ sailboats, a French made, wooden sailboat, then an Abbot, then a 38’ C&C. I’m an old sailor who is looking for diesel, now, not sails! Cheers!

Nice video, Here are some thoughts. Many wanna be Trawler buyers might just consider this free advice. I could have bought a million dollar Trawler if I was willing to work until 70 and risk never going cruising. I could have bought a half million dollar Trawler if I worked till 65. Instead I bought a $250K 2001 Bayliner 4788 and am retiring on my 60th birthday. No I cannot cross oceans. I will never explore Fiji. What I can do is travel along any coastline as far as I want to go. As soon as spring breaks I am taking my Bayliner all the way from Seward Alaska, down the coast into Mexico. Next winter I will explore the Sea of Cortez instead. I will cherish the years spent cruising much more than if I was still sitting in my office at work putting in the time to pay off a more expensive boat.

Congrats on retiring at 60!🎉🎉🎉 We’ve been on a 4788 and it’s beautiful. Our first liveaboard boat was a Bayliner 3270 and we loved it! Financially, our 1988 trawler was a great fit for us, costing well under $200k. Of course, many boats the age of ours would not be considered dependable vessels for cruising, but the DeFever is so well-built and our boat was meticulously cared for before we owned it. Happy cruising and let us know when you pass through San Diego!

@@TheSeaYallLife Your Defever is a prime example of a "go now" vs a "keep working" trawler. A wonderful Coastal Cruiser. We can all trade time at work for more money, but we never know just how much time we have to trade.

Great video! Can you guys ask Jeff or maybe you can answer as well, what are some other good long range cruisers for blue water passages. I love nordhavn’s, and I know they are built like a tank, but are there other similar trawlers out there like the nordhavn for ocean crossing?
@TheSeaYallLife2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For ocean crossing, Nordhavn and Kadey Krogan.

Great Video! Thank you. At the Annapolis show, I toured the Kadey-Krogen. Amazing boat with unbelievable headroom. I'm 6'6", so that stood out. When you were shopping for your boat, was there a single attribute that your boat had to have or it was a deal breaker? For me, its cabin height. Others have stated things I never would have thought to ask such as Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engines.
@TheSeaYallLife2 жыл бұрын
When we bought our DeFever, it was love at first sight after looking at only two other boats. At the time, we had been in a 32 ft Bayliner. So living/entertaining space was a big priority, but so too we’re reliable brand and twin Diesel engines.

I think the ultimate long range motor cruiser is the FPB. Now If I was just staying along the coast and the Caribbean it would definitely be the Fleming. Btw I have a GB’s 42 now.

nordhavens roll, thats why they have those stabilizer outriggers.......roll roll yur boat
@davidparadis4902 жыл бұрын
Most of these high end trawler yachts have stabilizers, not just nordhavn. Because they're slow moving boats, it amplifies the effect of the roll from the beam, creating that uneasy feeling in your stomach if you don't counter it's effect.
