1:26 the reason sonic "struggles to get through the S tubes" is due to a glitch; in sonic 1, the death plane is always the bottom of the screen, so if you go too fast in the s tubes, the camera can't keep up and you hit the bottom of the screen, resulting in a death. So, the hacker added the "struggling" through s tubes so that it would be possible to beat the game.

My theory on why sonic rolling was slow is that ( prob wrong) that there is a balance between running acceleration time and rolling deceleration time, when the speed is put up really high the rolling deceleration time goes way up, so it lasts hsorter
