You're better off installing a custom firmware on it, trust me your device will work a lot better this way too, also for peace of mind.....cherry pick the games you're gonna play seriously you're not gonna play thousands and thousands of games..... I suggest you watch retro game corps....does nothing but retro handhelds, it's his whole thing....and I'm pretty sure there is a video of that particular anbernic product.... The thing with Anbernic is that they usually are bad in the software area, good hardware but bad software....and at this point they kinda just expect the person that buys their product to know about CFW....

Yo Snoley! Thanks Bro for coming through and checking the Unboxxing. I'm doing great bro. How bout you? I started running it on Garlic OS as of Thursday and to me it feels a whole lot better. There were more games after switching as well. I'm gonna try and look up some tutorials on how to add games since there still is a lack of Mario & Donkey Kong Titles.

@BrainSlushTV I'm hanging in there bro. Yes, much more supported platforms after the switch. I may go ahead and do it. I need to pick up some micro SD cards. There are quite a few tutorials out there. On stock firmware I added the Mario titles and they work fairly well, as expected. Super Mario RPG ran better than I thought it would.

I LOVE my RG35XX. I'm into tinkering so changed the OS, added all my own "back ups" for MOST of the systems and changed the theme as well. If you tinker at all it's INCREDIBLE. Garlic OS is great and has Retroarch which provides way more options including more filters and video options. Mine definitely filled with Mario and DK but that's because of me haha. Out of the box it's "Meh" but it's one of those devices that the community just made SO MUCH better thanks to tinkering. It can be intimidating but honestly it's made the experience and my appreciation all the more greater for the device

Thank Goodness for you folks in the comments because I would've totally missed out on Garlic OS 😅 I've definitely found the interface more appealing and In fact did find more games to play after switching OS. Now I'm sold on keeping the RG35X and customizing it to my liking. Thanks for the info and for droppin in Mega Kirby, I appreciate it! 🙏🏼

How difficult is garlic OS to install? I've always been a mac user and years ago I had one of these devices (in the early days of these devices) and it was a pain to do unless I hooked it up to a windows PC.

​@caseyhayes4590 I'm not sure on MAC tbh since I have a PC. On PC it's super easy cause you just flash the image of Garlic OS on a new SD card (stock SD card sucks). You can use a simple program to do so and adding roms is as easy as just dropping them in their folders. This video is helpful among many others. Nice that items come screen protector and cleaning screen. Wow, that Usb C us very long. Amazon cleaning up comes electronics. Looks very similar to Gameboy color design even the color.

Yeah, when I bought this, I knew going in this was a “bring your own fun” kind of device . I’ve owned Anbernic stuff before. I have some other micro SD cards I’m gonna use to replace the old ones because they’re not very high-quality. I mostly buying this to play GBA on down games .

Just got mine a little bit ago. The nice thing is since there is two SD cards you can switch between operating systems. The stock OS is trash . Mine came with Garlic OS preinstalled and all of a sudden when I went to that OS, I could play more types of games .

Yeah im not ready to brush it off just yet. It's a solid product and the SD card I feel was maybe corrupted so it's an easy fix. I'm sure the Support Team will understand. But, Thanks Raya for Droppin' in and checkin out the Review! I appreciate the support! Game Boy 4 Life!!! 🙌🏼

I haven't experience that with any GBA Games. I have however with some N64 titles and unfortunately there's nothing that can really fix that because it's a bad ROM. I had to go and find the same ROM online and replace it so I can get it to work.

play some gameboy/gba/gbc games, everytime someone gets these they stress test the units showing PSP/ps1 games..like bro im getting a portable unit to play portable games and they never show these portable games being played i wanna see how they look. The screen looks pretty solid TBH but i cant decide to pull the trigger since people do such poor reviews of these units showing the same damn games being demo'd (whatever stock ps1/ps2/Dreamcast) games come on the unit I want the R36s tho

I hear that. I in fact do have some quick KZbin Shorts I'm gonna drop showing some GB titles. I show the PS1 for the fact that it's one that's more than likely gonna grab many folks interest so if I can show some of these games then I Definitely am. I myself picked this up to play GB/NES/SNES/MD, etc. All those 8 and 16bit era games are best on the go. I'm planning on picking up another version of this.

im VERY CURIOUS how the screen on this 35, and the R36 compares to the analogue pocket...people obv say the pocket has a better screen...yeah id say that too if i paid $300 for a unit vs $40..i think these units have IPS screens? or now? They look clean as hell As well with rom issues, i plan to probably erase alot of the roms on these units and put on my own. How are these units when you plug them in via usb to the PC is the file/folders labeled ok?@@BrainSlushTV

yea exactly crank the brightness up and lets see how these compare...as well not sure if these are android based OS on them, im sure theres better emulators that can optimize like ps1 playback and potentially even upscale it if you get a better unit like the r36s with better internals..but then most "reviewers" probably dont know how to do that@@BrainSlushTV

Oh I'm definitely not a "Reviewer" and I make it clear by my lack of depth into these products. I look at all these things at face value and try to be entertaining while doing so. "Retro Game Corps" for example has a waaay better in depth look into the RG35XX and is likely more "qualified" to do so since I'm not well versed in these products. But check it, I'm hearing what you're saying and it's something to keep in mind for my next Unboxxing. But I'll definitely show some of what your saying on a YT Short because I didn't realize some folks wanted to see some GB game footage and other options to change the game quality itself.

That's what I was looking for myself, but Unfortunately I can't find it. It don't let me connect to wifi but I assume you will be able to do it by connecting it to a PC.

It has dual Os october update, you can manually flash it to your sd card but you will need to back up your games because flashing will back you to zero

Anbernic don’t want any lawsuit from nintendo thats why theres no mario and you didnt switch os and check garlic os and there’s no US version you have to clone the sd card to a branded one because the included sd card is cheap and will corrupt easily and you just need to delete the chinese one and replace it with english roms

Yeah I figured it was something like that but it had me thinking that there are other Nintendo IPs like Zelda so why not mario? But it's not that big of a deal cause If I plan on customizing the RG35 I'll just add those games that are missing.
