MrMario, you probably know this by now. So i will mention this for the viewers. The 1.6 has the clock cap as well. It is located by the IDE port. They moved it and replaced it with one that doesnt fail as much as the old ones. "DO NOT REMOVE THOSE CAPS" You will kill your 1.6 box. Great videos man keep it up.

4 years later but I just wanted to let you know why the flux made it harder to bridge those points, it’s because flux helps join solder to the copper pads and it basically sucks it away from the board to the individual copper pad.
@MrMario20112 жыл бұрын
Much appreciated 😁
@PacMaster2 жыл бұрын
A bit of a quick tip for anyone trying to do this for the first time. There is also another method of bridging the two points together without the use of solder. You can actually use some conductive paint to bridge the two solder points together and I found it to be way easier. It's also safer to do as it won't damage your Xbox if you mess up and end up breaking the solder pads on the motherboard. You can easily just wipe it off with some isopropyl alcohol and just reapply it. This second method is perfect for people who are not good at soldering such as me. I was able to flash the EvoX bios to an Xbox with this method and it was awesome. Great video man!

Just fyi ide cables don't carry power just data the 40 vs 80 is just doubling wire to eliminate crosstalk between the wires so in 40 wire 1 wire per pin in 80 2 wires per pin in the xbox sata hdd's send data too fast even with a ide to sata converter so to fix that you upgrade to a 80 wire cable for fast communication between the hdd and the motherboard and with that speed come crosstalk which again is why we double to wires

Needing an 80 pin makes no sense as the Xbox should be limited to the slower UDMA 66 transfer rates anyway. The 80 pin was for UDMA 130 as I recall.

If your HDD dies in an unmodded xbox, you can recover. At 14:16 it should be noted when you said you lifted one of the MB pads and had to put that wire there. Since you lifted that pad on the MB if you tried to turn the Xbox on it would have FRAGED (Flashing Red and Green Light) as one of my first attempts at soldering the two points on an Xbox I ended up ripping one of the pads off the MB and when I tried to turn on the system it FRAGed. But once I wired the alternative points it was saved. Just figured I should point that out.

Hi MrMario. I've heard the words 'locking' and 'unlocking' thrown around a lot when it comes to replacing an original xbox hard drive. What exactly is a locked hard drive? Is the factory installed HD paired with the the original xbox or motherboard in some way? Is it something unique Microsoft only did with the original xbox HDs?
@meetoo5946 жыл бұрын
Pretty much what you said, the drive and motherboard have a unique matching key that `unlocks` the drive at boot if the keys match. If the keys dont match it throws a `your xbox needs servicing` message up and wont do anything else. The modchip in mine just bypasses the check so you can use any drive you like.

It seems you have to fold the cables various times due to the spacing between connectors, On an Xbox, does it matter which end goes to the motherboard? Thanks!

In short you get the benefits of a modchip without actually obtaining and installing a chip itself. You cannot read ISO files on an Xbox. I linked in the description the 80-wire IDE cable I used that works in part 2, folding it is inevitable.

I'm having trouble flashing the bios I've tried both hexen 2017 and 2018, I get to gentoox and it counts down to boot from disc and won't let me choose another option, I have a winbond chip on a 1.4/1.5 xbox, what boot disc is it waiting for?

Try using a legit controller, not third party.

Use desolder braid, or a hot air rework station for the clock capacitor :)

Hey +MrMario2011 I had a question for you, I am going to attempt to do this mod very soon. Do you have a link to the website that you're using for the modification? I have an Original Xbox that is similar to yours ( its an ST TSOP ), but I can tell where the RD710 pad is...
@MrMario20117 жыл бұрын
Check out the description, I credited Slot1Gamer for his super well done TSOP tutorial, which is what I used.

Ah, Perfect. Thank you. I believe that I have a 1.1 since one of the south super caps wasn't included from the factory and the GPU heatsink is the later version. R7D3 seems to be the one to bridge!

Easiest way to check if you have a v1.1 or v1.2 : ATX style power supply connector on v1.2 ;)

Internal notes of some kind, possibly when testing the hardware quickly before packaging it all up.

80wire is not for power.. the difference between an 40wire and 80wire is that the 40wire has 1 wire per pin, the 80 wire has 2 wires per pin with the new wire going to ground. This provides shielding, as the higher speeds (frequencies) of the sata drives will cause cross talk on a 40wire cable.

does the console need to be softmodded first before this mod can be done? i ask cause from the sound of it, this acts like a modchip without a modchip, allowing the ability to run the DVD's
@MrMario20116 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what it is, and yes you have to softmod before flashing BIOS

Is there a certain way to play backups? Used XISO to convert everything to iso format. I used img burn to burn the isos to a dvd (tried both dvd-r and DVD+r) and when the Xbox goes to load up the disc it say disc may be dirty or damaged. Not sure what i did wrong. Im softmoded so it should be good to go.

Transfer to the hard drive, it's recommended to not play burned discs.

@@MrMario2011 mines a 1.1 with an st 1mb chip, do i have to flas a mb bios file?, of will it take a 256k file and quad it up to fill the chip?. i was going to flash a 1mb x2 5035 bios, but if its true about 256k files then i may use m8 like you did then if i have problems i can 3 wire trick it and use another bank.

Nope, you need to get the console up and running. It has to be softmodded so you can run the homebrew needed to flash.

If I have a stock xbox that is not soft modded and was never opened, should I remove the clock capicitor to prevent damage? Will it affect normal play?
@MrMario20116 жыл бұрын
Always remove if the console isn't a 1.6, it won't affect normal use aside from having to set the clock on boot.

MrMario2011 OK, thanks, I was going back and forth. I have to reset the clock every time I boot as it is, so I'm guessing it has leaked already. Thanks again

I would love to mod my Xbox, just with a simple softmod :D But the thing is I wish that the softmod can be removed easily and have it not be permanent on the hard drive but instead can be easily removed going back to the systems default state like the ps2 can, I don't know why, it just gives you peace of mind that you can remove the softmod easily and have it as if it was never soft modded, I'm weird :P Oh well, I'll still do it Great video dude! I'm loving the videos on ps2 and Xbox! Two of the best systems of all time :D
@MrMario20117 жыл бұрын
You could uninstall the softmod and then delete the saves. I don't see a need now to have a completely stock Xbox, mainly because if needed you could boot into MS Dashboard at any point.
@TheChaoticWolf7 жыл бұрын
+MrMario2011 yeah that's true, but I meant like being completely back to its original state, but hey it's not a big deal, I'll be planning to soft mod it anyway, keep up the videos bro, they're really fun to watch!

your right, i like doing the softmod via pc , and ndure , also i get to have that added protection of the eeprom or hdd key right there slipstreamed on the disk, definately alot more added work , but almost ensures unlimited access to your xbox. no matter modchip or not
