I do believe that the penance stare is a “channeled ability” so to speak. So he has to get far enough into the ability before the kill begins to happen.

When it comes to the penance stare not working right away, there are two main reasons. Firstly, ghost rider was holding Lobo still with physical strength on the first attempt, and Lobo being so ridiculously powerful meant he could easily break free from the physical hold. More importantly is what ghost rider says when performing the penance stare. On the first attempt he was trying to reap Lobo's soul as he says "your soul shall burn in the fires of hell". Since his soul can't be reaped, Lobo was able to shrug it off. On the second attempt, ghost rider says "I will wreak vengeance upon your soul" implying he's just unloading a massive attack on Lobo's soul to destroy it

Actually, Ghost Rider simply used the Penance Stare to punish Lobo first, then just ate the soul.

I just wanted to clear something and say that Ghost rider stating “your soul will burn in hell” does not mean the soul is being reaped and if it is, you are getting the wrong idea. When he says that, it is also just the same as what he said the second time; it is an infliction on the soul to damage it, this was also an attack on the soul specifically, but the reason this didn’t work was because his soul cannot be burnt in hell or overwhelmed in heaven as Lobo is banned from the afterlife. It’s kind of complicated but all I am saying is that you are getting the general concept right, but the particular idea behind it wrong. The second time this worked because ghost rider was deliberately causing infliction whilst not taking any unnecessary names like hell or heaven, making it a lot more effective and lethal than the one prior. However it is expected that Ghost Rider uses this terminology because he is a hell spirit after all combined with a destructively powerful angel demon if that makes sense. And to add flames on a dead corpse, Rider sealed his fate by devouring his soul in his skull.

It’s also that Lobo is smart enough to know if you’re in a fight and your enemy says “Look into my eyes”, you don’t do it.

A really good video from you as always, and one of my favorite Season 6 Death Battles to boot. It was a nice surprise to see you bet against Lobo, given most people who watch this understandable think he’ll take it. Like you said, it’s always nice when you’re reasoning matches up with Death Battles too. The reason Zarathos could deal with all the Lobos so easily is because he’s just that strong. Being powerful enough to take on Galactus means the number of Lobos really wouldn’t have mattered at that point. Then again, he lost his body from that blast Lobo fired at the end, but that was likely just for a cool moment and fake out. The same is probably true for the Penance Stare not working the first time, although it can be interrupted iirc.

I did think Lobo had the strength advantage and that his fourth wall abilities would help him in the fight, but I guess GR was just too powerful. 29:20 Oh, that is pretty simple. He just didn`t manage to maintain eye contact. Probably Lobo figured out that "Look into my eyes" means is a bad idea in fight and purposely avoided it. As for why it worked on second time, because Lobo was absolutely restrained here with no way of escape from Zarathos and avoid the stare.

You should be super proud of your analysis Ris. You got it exactly right. Lobo is much, much more powerful in a physical sense, and if neither character had their "Immortality" then he would win. But both are basically unkillable, except that Ghost Rider had basically the one thing that could potentially work.

First attempt to do penance eye might not work since on lobo since his eye have to be fully locked on to ghost rider eyes and ghost rider didn't do it seriously lobo can withstand pain. But when lobo turns to a soul it's gonna be easy to do it on him using his chains to lock lobo

Lobo is an interesting character, but not too well known. DC’s Etrigan is in a similar boat, fascinating, but not as well known as Ghost Rider. In fact, Etrigan & GR came out within a month of each other and feature “Demonic” heroes who transform into fire spitting crime fighters using their “Deals”. Personally a three way bad between Lobo, Etrigan, and Ghost Rider would have been more interesting in my book, but it was a cool fight none the less

Like, the Serpent Strength feat isn't even his strongest feat. Thor has a feat where he lifts the weight of 8 Earth's. And even that isn't his max in the comics. And on top of that, they downplayed the Mjlnor speed feat, the hammer is way faster then what they said.

And after some research, Thor actually has a feat where he takes the weight of 20 planets on him, not sure if he ended up lifting out of it though. Also, Thor has a god form that D totally ignored, which would easily give him the win towards WW. Also, DB downplayed the Mjlnor Speed Feat. Thor says that the hammer would be away from HIM for 60 seconds, NOT that it would take 60 seconds to reach the ends of the Galaxy. Meaning that feat is twice as fast as what DB said it was.
