Panos, you're going to be saying "explosive" quite a lot throughout this series. I'm so glad you started this. It was really one of the most amazing shows I've ever watched. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it when you announced you'd be watching, but you will need to keep tissues nearby. You'll be crying and angry and very occasionally happy. I can't wait to see what you lads think!

Great to see you doing this show and I really enjoyed your reaction and discussion. One of the reasons I think this show is important is because it shows younger people what it was like to be gay in earlier decades (and, as you said, even in the present day in many places in the world). Just a couple of context notes for you as you go forward: Keep in mind that although the Hawk and Tim characters are fictional, many of the other characters are portraying real historical figures. This was the era, as you mentioned, right after WWII and in the U.S. we had what was known as the "Red Scare," where elements of the government became obsessed with rooting out communists, and similarly there was the "Lavender Scare" where the government tried to root out gays and lesbians. I think you'll find the series quite engrossing and the writing, acting and overall production values to be of a high quality. Although it does deal with heavy subjects, I think you will find it very worthwhile. The show does jump back and forth in time quite a lot, and it is not always very obvious right away that we are suddenly in a different decade, so you kind of have to be aware of that. Finally, for me it was great to have two talented gay actors playing the lead roles in a high-profile show about gay people. Cheers, guys!
@therainbowreels7 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching 🫶🏻 We both were aware of the “red scare” as it’s something we learned about in school, but of course we were never taught about the “lavender scare”. It’s very sad and shocking to see how queer people had to hide who they were and always had to be on the lookout not to be found out, otherwise they would lose their jobs etc. And then you jump forward to the 80s with the aids epidemic and the hate towards the queer community seems to become even stronger. We’ll make sure to have tissues ready for the next few episodes….

Hawk clocked Tim as gay during the "sitting on a park bench" scene because Tim research about him. He searched for Hawk's name and employment history. It's like today's cyberstalking in Instagram thing. When you have a crush on someone, you stalk their social media.

A fantastic series, with incredible work from everyone in every capacity: creator (Ron Nyswaner), writers, directors, designers and cinematographer, and above all the terrific cast. And for anyone who wants to learn more about this era and the background to this series, I recommend not only the novel by Thomas Mallon (of which this series is a great expansion and enrichment) but a non-fiction book -- "Secret City: The Hidden History of Gay Washington" by James Kirchick, which traces the story of Gay/Lesbian people in the U.S. Government through the entire 20th century, administration by administration. A real eye-opener, even if you are already familiar with some of the facts and people.

This is SUCH a great series! There's going to be an awful lot you can't show, but it's heartbreaking. In almost every episode they deal with some element of the consequences of homosexuality being illegal and people having to lie, to hide themselves from attitudes that range from pity to disgust & hatred. The fact that this is absolutely how things were is horrifying.

Hey! Great to see you doing this show. You should definitely check out PRISMA too. It's an amazing Italian series on Prime Video that tackles important themes about the LGBTQIA+ community and gender identity. The story is refreshing and far from predictable. It's considered a hidden gem here in Italy, especially given the difficult social and political times we're going through. It's not very well known, but it really deserves more recognition. The second season is coming out on June 6th. I hope you give it a chance! and I can't wait to see what you guys think about fellow travelers' plot!

I just laught a little at the beginning when Matt said 'But he has a wife,no' regarding Hawk, he sounded so innocent

😆 yeah it took Matt a moment to figure out what was going on. I think we share the same sentiment about Hawk…he might be hot, but his behaviour is giving us the ick

Back then the color of an accessory (tie, hankerchief, pocket square, nail polish) would be a signal that you were gay so you wouldn't run the risk of hitting on somebody straight. With Tim knowing Hawk's bio he knows where he works, when he takes his lunch break and since he clocked that Hawk was gay at the election party, Tim chose the bench closest to the men's bathroom. Skippy is not that innocent 😜
