Actually, that's exactly what you do; Assuming MN9 works as much like Mega Man as I think it does, when you need *more* firepower, you hold down the shoot button to charge up a *more* powerful shot. Similarly, in every platformer, ever, holding down the jump button gives you more hang time than you would get if you just pressed it.
