Yeah Mr tool talk Tuesday ! You got that explanation pretty wrong didn't you !! The induction coil doesn't get hot and heat up the nut or bolt !!! That's literally the whole point ! The coil INDUCES electromagnetic energy into the bolt !! 😂😂😂 get it right fella or all your silly shenanigans won't land well will they ! 🎉

Hey Jon, the heat from the induction heater isn't from heating the coil, it's from induction, like an induction hob, if you put that coil over your finger and power it, you'll notice it doesn't heat your finger or the coil. That's why they don't work on copper or aluminium. Also, best not to let it touch the nut/bolt/bar you're heating if you can help it. Great tools though! 💪

Repairing a 20 year old T5 van myself I realised that after all those years even if the 2.5 TDI engine works all-right on a long trip because of the heat and the mechanical stress the seals and some mechanical components give up . I recommend you change some seals on your engine ( water pump , tandem pump for example) , check the turbo for any play it might have (I’ve changed mine as it was leaking) and for the 2.4TDI the alternator rubber pulley and pulley wheel needs changing every 90k (mine gave away as soon as I put a DC- DC charger in ..). Then off course , oil and filters change .. Good luck with your conversion, I’ll be watching with a lot of interest!

Well that did not disappoint! Triple T, the Generals new section and doing something that your average Van converter hasn't done before. This is a totally blank canvas and it is going to be an amazing build for us to enjoy as the Old Gal evolves from Fire Engine to Mini Overlander. You'll defiantly be able to take her to places that larger Overlanders will not easily get to, as you found with the Landy. Only problem is We all have to wait till next Saturday for our next installment. Bugger! Did you weight the old Gal before the strip as it will be interesting to see what she weights stripped and then once the conversion is complete.

Now you have her stripped you might want to consider some engine upgrades, a tune at least, perhaps an after-market turbo and snorkel if it needs one, then an insulated engine cover that will cut the noise down, also when finished spray sound-absorbing rubber on the inner wheel arches, it will cut down the noise a lot and protect from stones. This worked a treat on our AWD Hiace, much quieter in the cab. I am loving this new build, though I thought the defender was amazing. I look forward to seeing her evolve into what will be a fantastic adventure vehicle.
@truebluetravellers8 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, yeah I priced up a new turbo but to run it it would also need a bigger radiator and an oil cooler so it’s mega money, yep replacing all engine bay seals and gonna sound deaden and insulate the lot and also underseal like u say, should be much better once done 👌👌👍

saturday sparkle, see the water tank will convert into a fantastic trailer, I was right, lots of cool stuff in the video, and lots of space for adventures. Always over engineered, as soon as I saw the bars, I was shouting stretcher!!!!! Some mountain rescue teams put the sccop stretcher on there. Now for the naggy bit, I know you hate the naggy bit, one problem with the PG is that when you remove all the structure out on the interior the pancake really easy on a vehicle rollover, I would suggest a roll over cage from Safety Devices that goes behind the passenger and driver, it also stiffens the chassis slightly so you don't get the problem of body twist breaking out and wearing down your fixings, If you want to go second hand route a landrover WOLF British Amry Rollover bar from a landrover should about fit. Love you guys,
@truebluetravellers8 ай бұрын
Cheers mate, so I’m gonna leave the front section/cab area roof, and also going to strengthen slightly too so hoping that strengthens it a lot, so in the case of a roll over then at least we will be safe, they build these as flat beds and canvass etc so must be reasonably sturdy like that but will see more once we get them out 👍👍

Great tear down as usual. This is gonna be such a good build. I think you should do the Trans Atlantic highway in it. I definitely think some type of roof extension is needed, you could maybe get 2 fold down singles either side in the roof space that make a double bed, or go for 2 singles offset in the roof space, fibre glass over a steel or ally frame? Just thinking outside the box. I'm sure you already have a plan. So excited about this one already.

The South West of the USA would be a great place to take that. Imagine driving it from San Francisco to Yosemite and then via the General Sherman tree to Keeler California and up the yellow grade road to Cero Gordo. You could cross death valley towards Vegas and then go to Page for the Horseshoe bend and Antelope Canyon, take it to Flagstaff for Wupatki and the painted desert and then across Arizona to Tombstone. And then towards LA past the aircraft grave yards and the Saguaro National park near Tucson then on via places like Lake Havasu, Sedona, twin arrows, two guns, Kingman, Seligman (as featured in Cars), Oatman (for the Burros). There's so many awesome places in that area to see and the desserts you'd cross would make an awesome 'Cursed Earth's backdrop for the truck. Maybe you could meet up with the likes of Wobderhussy, Pin in the Atlas and Justin Scarred which would boost your visibility on You Tube too... Such could be an awesome adventure

Might be worth replacing the rubbing strips with HDPE so you dont have any issues with splitting or rotting again! ❤

I’m thinking the same, might look into prices 👌👍

What a great start, stripped right back to basics. This looks so much fun already. I’m looking forward to see your ingenuity and it come together. Have you thought about giving her a name yet? A naming ceremony like a boat with a bottle of champagne. Brilliant see you next week.

Wow, all those wires 😳 I wouldn’t know where to start!!! I salute you both, your knowledge and positive outlook is amazing. Jess, bless you with the back to basics session 👏🏼🫶🏼🙏🏻 I’ve been getting stuck in but there are so many methods of doing tasks I’m getting bogged down with details (yes I was the child that repeated ‘but why?’ after every explanation and then I loose confidence! I’d love you to touch on electrics (not the usual stuff) more like why use bus bars, doesn’t a blade fuse box do the same thing? should you wire a smaller fridge directly into the system or use the cigarette charger provided? When to use separate fuses?
@truebluetravellers8 ай бұрын
Thanks very much Karen, I’m a bit of a novice to electrics too so I’ve said to Jon I want to do more on this build so I’ll hopefully do some bits on it then 😊

Induction heaters work with induced current, so the outer coil isn't heating anything it induces heat into what's in the centre. Nice project, it should be fun. Can you get spares easy enough?

Thanks for that, helpfull to know, I should I read the instructions 😂😂🤦♂️ cheers mate, the parts aren’t the easiest to get no, there’s only a few people that do them really

Could you use the aluminium boxes that you took off the roof, slim them down slightly, put them on the side like the storage boxes on the new defender and use them as extra storage (i was thinking water tank, but i think that will make it tip much more easier?!)
@truebluetravellers8 ай бұрын
Brilliant idea as they are really cool but unfortunately we can’t as we will be making a poo top roof for it 😊

As for the wooden side protectors one had has a 25 foot sailing boat we call them rubbing strippes made of wood mine where us = one used solid black plastic decking plank one 12 foot plank did the whole boat one cut it down into 3 stripes = never have to touch them again but put sealant behind it to stop water ingress best of look just ideas to help is all
