Yay, Chelsea! Da best. And Mel’s 5 Second Rule book, (all of her books) helped me get over stage fright in 2018. I performed for the first time in years and I didn’t completely torture myself before, during and after the process. She’s a gem. Learning that my procrastination wasn’t about the thing, typically about a protection mechanism for your brain body to avoid stress. Pretty sure I learned this from Mel as well. Some of it is obvious stuff but she distills it down to be relatable and heartfelt. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

33:42 "You doing what you need to do to be the best version of you because when you do that you are better prepared to face the challenges" That's what stuck out to me. When you experience negativity and you let it get to you, you indulge in your worst self. You identify with your worst self. You put your worst self in the drivers seat and eventually your best self doesn't have a voice. It's the difference between self indulgence and self care. Snooz button.

While I completely relate and have compassion for how people feel about the current political situation, it’s such a privilege to raise your hands up and say I’m out, I’m hopeless and therefore I’m detaching and walking away. So many people through time and even today don’t have the luxury to walk away from the oppressive culture they find themselves in. Think of all the people who have died for the hope of a better future.

Mel Robbins didn’t reinvent the wheel; she just painted it a bright color and gave it a snappy name. People love quick fixes, and the “5-Second Rule” sounds doable and non-intimidating. But let’s be real: the core idea-“don’t overthink, just do”-has been around forever. It’s a tool to push you into action in the short term, but if your life is a dumpster fire of poor habits and self-sabotage, you’re going to need more than a countdown to clean it up. Use it, sure, but don’t worship at the altar of Robbins thinking this one-size-fits-all trick will save your lazy soul. So the next time you’re on the fence about trying something new, 5-4-3-2-1 make that move, honey! Or not. You do you-just do something.

For those of us who are not white, or considered wealthy also have alot more skin in the game. I understand the "let's put ourselves in their shoes" works for the women on this panel but it means 💩 for those of us who are far more vulnerable to anything terrible that could or might happen. Im not letting this consume me but you bet your ass im fighting back. The complacency of "let's see where this goes" and "let them" when it comes to hate that literally means life/death and safety for alot of people doesn't fly. Nothing has changed in history by "letting them", EVER.

I love the theory, and I want the book. My only issue is letting people be who have been terrible friends. Part of me feels like I should create boundaries with people who are shitxy friends 💩. But if I accept them for who they are, I may have more friends But be conscious of their behavior and choosing to let them be. 😵💫😮💨

23:24 do we need more attitudes of superiority? Is this what will give us peace? Whatever helps you move on and let go but this approach seems to forget the energy we put out comes back to us. This is over compensating for the underlying belief of not good enough for another belief “I’m superior” or better than you. Seems to bypass the actual harder inner work and letting go from the place of self love and acceptance.

Robbins and Chelsea Handler are a lot alike. They are both highly intelligent and highly motivated. They are not lazy by any means. Neither of them seem like the type of people that would get stuck. And if they do, they can get their selves out of any situation. I wish I had that skill set, I feel like you were born. You either have it or you don’t. Brittany Schmit and Brittany Furlan have a podcast called This is The worst podcast. While they might think that they are a lot alike, I think they are so different. Flynn tends to talk about all of her auto immune issues and how tired she is and she’s lucky because she’s got to have her back so she doesn’t have to worry about jumping out of bed to face the anxiety. She can burrow and hide. While Brittany Schmitt seems to be quite the opposite. She doesn’t hit the snooze button. She’ll show up hungover with Covid if she’s made an appointment. I am more like Furlan when I want to be a Schmitt.

Why is it not easy to understand whether Mel is trustworthy? Is it really something as simple as snapping because of DV and SA in the family that she didn't come to terms with? Or is it because Mel is entitled to think she can be on world stage undoing the hard work of experts who have put in the effort to truly understanding trauma? What is it? I mean I can't insist team work but, I can say that popularity is only useful when it points to the truly beneficial work. And it's unclear if Mel has the energy that some truly want to help the world find.

Terri Cole has some fire behind her, yet it is as dignified as she humanly can. Mel goes out of way to behave with extremely low dignity. And let them, is peculiar for female gender. She has to lay down something that seems controversial? And then explain everything, and say she's screwing things up, but this is supposed to be a role model for at least her own children, for behavior that can be understood?! Wouldnt a better study be of how on a wide scale, people intentionally made bad decisions, to secure a shelter? And how to truly leave something for posterity and not "let them" leave a disaster for the younger gens?
