I asked him one time in dallas the brand of his bullet mic because I loved his harp tone. He looked at me like I was an idiot and said “I don’t know”. I’m blessed to have seen him with Anson Funderburg many times in small joints in Dallas.

I had the honor of seeing Sam on three occasions twice in South FL in ‘96 & ‘97. I saw him again in Vienna, VA at a very small club in 2000. He was with Anson Funderberg and the Rockets in those years. I actually sat with him at the bar for about an hour because Anson‘s wife wanted to sing a set that night. Sam and I discussed many things about life, current events, and of course the blues. He knew everybody from Clarence Gatemouth Brown to Stevie Ray Vaughn. I bought him drinks, lit his cigarettes, and helped him stamp his signature on CDs (because he was near blind and could see to sign). I’m so thankful for that evening! Sam was just about the nicest most genuine person and musician there is!!!
